Gregg Satterlee Conquers UFO at the Port; Wedding Bells Next

Indiana, Pennsylvania (03/29/16) – Gregg Satterlee notched his second triumph in as many weeks with a $3,000 payday on Saturday night in his Satterlee Petroleum Distributors #22 Rocket XR1/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model at Port Royal Speedway.

Returning to Williams Grove Speedway (Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania) on Friday night, Gregg Satterlee and nineteen Super Late Models signed in for the regular night of racing. Trying to replicate his win from week earlier at the famed, ½-mile oval, Satterlee earned an 8th place starting spot for the main event. Working his way forward in the pack throughout the event, Gregg came up one spot short of a win as he finished behind Matt Cosner with Bryan Bernheisel, Jim Yoder, and Dylan Yoder rounding out the top five.

The following night took Satterlee to Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pennsylvania) for the UFO Race Championship season opener. Competing in a stacked field of forty-two cars, Gregg earned a front-row, starting spot for the feature after capturing a heat race win. He and Mason Zeigler swapped the top spot throughout the first half of the finale. Gregg retook the top spot on lap 27 and went on to hold off a late charge from Jason Covert on the final lap to pick his up second win of the season. Covert, Austin Hubbard, Dan Stone, and Jim Yoder trailed Satterlee to the finish line in the $3,000-to-win affair.

“Wow, that’s all you can say about our weekend,” noted Satterlee. “Competition in this region just keeps getting tougher so to get a 2nd and a win means a lot. I want to thank my crew chief, Robby (Allen), my sponsors, my family, and all of my fans for their great support.”

For full results from these events, please visit www.WilliamsGrove.com and www.UFOChampionship.com.

The upcoming weekend will not see Satterlee in a race car. Rather he will be getting married to his lovely fiancée, Kelsey Lee George.

Bub McCool Bests Battle of the States Foes

Vicksburg, MS (03/29/16) – There was no off-season rust for Bub McCool to worry about as he claimed a convincing victory in his first event of 2016. The $2,500 triumph came on Saturday evening aboard the McCool Logging #57J RBT Motorsports/Club 29 Race Car/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model in the 3rd Annual Battle of the States at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Making his 2016 season debut, Bub McCool traveled to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Mississippi) on Saturday night for the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) season-opener. Drawing twenty-four Super Late Models for the 3rd Annual Battle of the States, McCool posted the fastest time in qualifying. After finishing 2nd in the dash, Bub earned a 2nd place starting position for the $2,000-to-win A-Main.

Jumping out to an early lead in the finale, McCool overcame a mid-race battle for the top spot with Brian Rickman. He would stretch his lead to almost half a track and seemed to have the feature comfortably wrapped up until a late-race caution erased his lead. Holding off Jack Sullivan, Bub McCool went on to pick up his first victory of the season with Sullivan, Rick Rickman, Neil Baggett, and Brian Rickman rounding out the top five.

“We’ve been chomping at the bit to get our season started but the weather has been rough everywhere that we’ve tried to race,” said the defending MSCCS champion. “I want to thank Randy Thompson and this entire team for giving me a flawless, race car tonight.”

For full results from this event, please visit www.WhynotMotorsportsPark.com .

Herrera Rallies at Bronco Raceway Park for Another Top-Five Finish

Inside Line Promotions - CLEVELAND, Texas (March 29, 2016) - Johnny Herrera added another top-five finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last weekend in Texas.

The weekend got off to a rough start as Herrera ran into a DNF on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, where he had rallied from fourth to second place in a heat race and was vying for a top-five finish several laps into the main event before a mechanical problem sidelined him.

"We had a top-five race car," he said. "I was riding around sixth for about six or seven laps there. Unfortunately, our motor let go on us."

Herrera, who was credited with a 21st-place result, rebounded on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park.

"We drew decent and had to win the heat race since we were starting on the pole," he said. "We got ourselves in the redraw, barely, and got the No. 6."

However, the start of the main event was almost disastrous for Herrera.

"On the first lap we bicycled and did everything but flip," he said. "I stood it up and it was toward the wall. Luckily there was enough room between there and the wall and nobody hit us coming down the track. We fell back to 14th or 15th, but we drove ourselves back up to fourth there. We had a really good car. I was happy with the result. I feel blessed we could save it and not bring it in on the hook."

Herrera's rally gave him three top fives in four features with the ASCS National Tour this season. He ranks second in the championship standings and is only seven points out of the lead.

Herrera is scheduled to tackle the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"Fifty laps on a short track is pretty fun," he said. "I really enjoy racing there. I've been decent and we've ran in the top two or three. We're looking forward to it."

Hanks Earns First Career ASCS National Tour Triumph at Cotton Bowl

Inside Line Promotions - CLEVELAND, Texas (March 29, 2016) - Brandon Hanks achieved one of his dreams last Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway, where he recorded his first career feature victory with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

The win at the 3/8-mile oval in Paige, Texas, was his first in a sprint car since 2012.

"I did some donuts," he said. "Dad frowns upon that, but I don't think he was too mad. I did two little donuts and of course I had to climb on top of the car. I just wanted to take it all in and celebrate."

The moment was a special one for Hanks, who put together his strongest performance ever with the ASCS National Tour. The night began with Hanks charging from fourth place to win a heat race. That earned him the most points of any driver and a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 2 during the random draw to start the 30-lap feature on the outside of the front row.

Hanks ran second to polesitter Josh Baughman for the first 18 laps before an opportunity in traffic allowed Hanks to take the top spot. He remained in the lead for the remaining dozen laps, including a green-white-checkered finish after Baughman crashed right behind him in turn two during the final lap.

"I was really mad when that red came out when I knew I'd have to restart again," he said. "I knew I had to put together a solid restart and two solid laps. I didn't want to start picturing everything. I just wanted to stay focused on the task at hand. I kept myself pulled together and I never really thought I'm about to win this thing until I was exiting turn four on the final lap.

"I think it's sinking in day by day. It just didn't seem real. The funniest part of the whole night was after we loaded up and everything calmed down, normally when I look at the articles online I'm used to seeing (Johnny) Herrera, (Seth) Bergman and (Aaron) Reutzel popping up. I get on there Friday night and it was weird to see my name on that stuff. It started sinking in from there, but it still feels blurry like a dream."

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park, where Hanks was hampered by a bad pill draw on a tough track.

"We drew the back and I was way too tight," he said. "I went through 20 tearoffs between hot laps and that heat race. I actually ran out of tearoffs before the heat was over."

Hanks placed ninth in a heat race before he charged from 16th to eighth in the B Main, which missed a transfer by only two positions.

He is scheduled to return to competition this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Baughman Overcomes Huge Hurdle to Score First Career ASCS National Win

Inside Line Promotions - CLEVELAND, Texas (March 29, 2016) - Redemption was spelled B-A-U-G-H-M-A-N on Saturday night at Bronco Raceway Park, where Josh Baughman registered his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph.

Baughman had been in contention for the win the previous night with the series at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, where his night ended upside down after he crashed on the final lap while making a bid for the trip to Victory Lane.

"We gave one away, but we were able to have another opportunity on Saturday to rebound and we did just that," he said. "We've been searching and searching trying to find what the problem is this year. We found our comfort level and it seemed to work in our favor. I think racing is mostly mental and if you let it get to you then it will get you down and behind the eight ball."

Baughman was a frontrunner throughout last weekend, which began on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway with Baughman advancing from seventh to third place in a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 during the random draw to garner the pole position for the 30-lap main event.

"I felt like we were really good," he said. "Then we started fighting with lapped cars. On a one-lane race track the guy in second has the advantage. Brandon (Hanks) made a good pass on us. We slid back and forth a couple of times for the lead. If we were a little better in lapped cars we wouldn't have been in that position. We were racing for the win and I made a little mistake on the last lap. I should have settled for second instead of pushing it so hard. I changed my line up a little in turn one. Turn two was already pretty sketchy. I entered a little low trying to come off straighter in turn two to pass him in turn three and we got into the wall."

Baughman flipped multiple times and he was credited with a 15th-place result.

"The guys band-aided the car together and we ran it on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park," he said. "They worked all day Saturday to get it back together. Then we got to the track and had some engine issues so we changed a motor before we went out for hot laps."

The ominous start to the day quickly turned into a positive vibe as Baughman powered from fifth to second place in a heat race. He advanced into the feature redraw and once again pulled the No. 1 to start on the pole.

"We were really good," he said. "I think we could have ran well from anywhere we started on the track. We were able to maneuver all over the track. On a track like that, especially when there's that much moisture, you have to be careful when you get to lapped cars. But you have to know someone like Aaron (Reutzel) is coming for the win, too. We took our time and was patient and worked our way through them."

Baughman led all 30 laps for his first triumph of the season and first ever with the series.

He is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

QUICK RESULTS -

Blaney Beginning All Star Title Defense After Podium Finish at Attica

Inside Line Promotions - ATTICA, Ohio (March 29, 2016) - Dale Blaney is primed to defend his Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions title as the chase for the 2016 crown begins this weekend.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team picked up a runner-up result last Saturday at Attica Raceway Park during the final tune up before points racing begins.

"We ran ok, but not the best," he said. "We needed to race a bit. It was good to get back racing again. Hopefully we learned some things to help us down the line."

Blaney opened the night by qualifying third quickest overall and the fastest in his group. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for a heat race.

"Those races are tough because you hot lap and qualify at the same time," he said. "It's better than just having a draw. It's a good thing they do that, but it doesn't leave you with much time on the track. We were only on the track three times the whole night. I wish we could have got a little more track time, but overall it was good. That wasn't really a test session for us, but it was in a way."

Blaney placed third in his heat race to lock into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 7 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

"We got to fifth fairly quickly, but if we didn't get a yellow late with six laps to go we probably would have ended up running fourth," he said. "I just couldn't make any ground up for most of the middle portion of the race. I got to third about one lap after the restart and then I got second coming off turn four for the checkered."

Blaney enters the All Star points opener this Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, with eight top fives in 12 races this season. He owns a series-best 127 feature victories, including at least one triumph during each of the past 15 years.
