Herman Collins/Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial Next for SAS Racing Series at Volunteer Speedway on August 3

Fayetteville, TN- July 28, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series will begin the month of August with a trip to the Joe and Phyllis Loven promoted Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN for the Herman Collins/Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial event on Saturday August 3.  The event will be 50 laps in length and pay the winner $5,000 for their efforts and pay $300 to start.

This event is being at Volunteer Speedway to honor a pair of the track’s former Super Late Model track champions.  Herman Collins of Knoxville, TN was the division track champion at Volunteer Speedway in 1975, while Dewey “Red” Ledford of Morristown, TN was the division track champion one year later in 1976.

The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday August 3 will feature a complete program of practice, WhitePerformance.com A-B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns, and will conclude with the 50 lap, $5,000 to win Herman Collins/ Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial A-Main.  Support divisions set to join the Southern All Star Racing Series in action at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday August 3 will be announced by the track during the week leading up to the event.

The visit by the Southern All Star Racing Series to Volunteer Speedway will mark the series second trip of 2013 to the 4/10 high-banked clay oval, as Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC was the winner of the tour’s previous event of the season on June 14, that being the Scott Sexton Memorial.  The Southern All Star Racing Series has previously contested 12 events at Volunteer Speedway, with those previous twelve event producing ten different winners.  Former Southern All Star Racing Series champion Duayne Hommel of Newport, TN and the late Scott Sexton of Pigeon Forge, TN are the only two competitors that own more than one victory  in SAS competition at Volunteer Speedway, as each of these drivers have two victories each.

Among those expected from the Southern All Star Racing Series stable of drivers include series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN, Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL, Mark Rosner of Rockford, TN, Bret Holmes of Munford, AL, Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Mark Vineyard of Powell, TN, along with a strong array of talented local and regional racing stars such as Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC, Michael Asberry of Crossville, TN, Stacy Boles of Clinton, TN, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, TN, Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN, David Crabtree of Maryville, TN, Josh Henry of Newport, TN, Jeff Wolfenbarger of Knoxville, TN, Mark Douglas of Knoxville, TN, Chad Ogle of Sevierville, TN, Travis Greer of Marion, VA, Bryan Hendrix of Knoxville, TN, Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN, Bobby Giffin of Maryville, TN, Dusty Carver of Englewood, TN, plus many more are expected.  The tour has presented twelve events already in 2013 and has seen eight different drivers visit victory with the series this season.

Activities for the Southern All Star Racing Series Herman Collins/Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday August 3 will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m. and general admission open at 6:00 p.m.  The drivers meeting will be at 7:15 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 8:00 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing.  All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.  Ticket prices for the Herman Collins/Dewey “Red” Ledford Memorial event at Volunteer Speedway on Saturday August 3 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, $5 for children ages 11 to 15, children ages 10 and under are free, while a pit pass will be $35.

The entry fee for the Saturday August 3 event at Volunteer Speedway is $100 and can be made payable to the Southern All Star Racing Series.  The tire rule is exclusively Hoosier Tires and the only compounds eligible to be used are the Hoosier 1350, 1450, and 1600 compounds.
