Ray Cook Wins Night Two of SAS Racing Series Georgia Madness at Needmore Speedway 

Norman Park, GA-August 10, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series made its first-ever appearance at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA on Saturday evening to complete the SAS Racing Series Georgia Madness weekend doubleheader and Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC would score the $4,000 victory aboard his A Plus Moving and Storage/Walker Trucking/Keyser Manufacturing/PPM Racing Products/VP Racing Fuel sponsored #53 MasterSbilt Race Car which is powered by a Jay Dickens Race Engine.   

The victory by the 42 year old Cook was his second Southern All Star Racing Series victory of 2013 and 12th overall for his career in SAS Racing Series competition.  Cook’s previous win this season came in July at Cleveland Speedway.                    

Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. of Ocala, FL and Ray Cook would bring the field to the green flag in the 40 lap main event that would be slowed by only one caution on lap 2.  Cook would jump to the race lead immediately and build a comfortable lead throughout the middle portions of the event, but Lloyd would mount a late race charge over the final few circuits of the contest, but would come up short and take runner-up honors for the second straight event.  William Thomas of Phenix City, AL would take the checkered flag in the third position, while series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN and Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL would complete the top five in the final rundown.     

The remainder of the top ten finishers in the Georgia Madness Night Two event would be Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA, Bret Holmes of Munford, AL, Kelly Walker of Moultrie, GA, Mark Rosner of Rockford, TN, and Russell Brown of Valdosta, GA.       

The next Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series event is on Saturday August 17 at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN.  The event is the annual Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial contest and will pay $4,000 to win and $300 to start.

Casey Barrow Captures Night One of SAS Racing Series Georgia Madness at Albany Motor Speedway

Albany, GA-August 9, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series made its first-ever appearance at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA on Friday evening for the first night of the SAS Racing Series Georgia Madness weekend doubleheader and Casey Barrow of Savannah, GA would pick up the win in his Carolina Performance/Custom Paint and Body/Thomas Clarke Performance sponsored #98  MasterSbilt Race Car, powered by a Clements Race Engine.

The victory for Barrow, 26 years of age, was the second Southern All Star Racing Series victory of his career, with his previous series victory coming in November of 2009 at Sylvania, GA.   Barrow’s victory made him the tenth different winner with the Southern All Star Racing Series through fourteen events so far in 2013.

Casey Barrow would take the lead at the start of the 40 lap Georgia Madness and would never surrender the top spot over the course of the event that would be slowed by three caution periods along the way.  Fourth place starter Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. of Ocala, FL would make a late race charge in an attempt to rundown Barrow for the top spot, but would have to settle for runner-up honors.  Tyler Ivey of Tallahassee, FL would run second for most of the first half of the event before settling for third position in the final rundown.  William Thomas of Phenix City, AL would finish the 40 lap event in the fourth position, while overall top qualifier Joshua Joiner of Milton, FL would complete the top five in the finishing order.

The remainder of the top ten finishers in the Georgia Madness Night One event would be Russell Brown of Valdosta, GA, 12th starting Cale Simons of Columbus, GA, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN, and 15th starting Kitt Sealy of Moultire, GA.

The next Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series event is on Saturday August 10 at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park GA.  That event is the second night of the Georgia Madness doubleheader weekend and will pay $4,000 to win and $300 to start.

Cleveland Speedway Host Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial for SAS Racing Series August 17

Fayetteville, TN- August 11, 2013- After a pair of events at new venues for the tour, the Southern All Star Racing Series returns to action at a most-familiar venue on Saturday evening August 17 with the tour’s fourth visit of the season to Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN for the Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial event that will be 40 laps in distance and pay $4,000 to win and $300 to start.   

The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Cleveland Speedway on Saturday August 17 will feature a complete program of practice, WhitePerformance.com A-B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns, and will conclude with the 40 lap, $4,000 to win Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial A-Main.  Support divisions set to join the Southern All Star Racing Series in action at Cleveland Speedway for the Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial event include the track’s Steel Head/Limited Late Model, Crate Late Model, A-Hobby, B-Hobby, and Pony/FWD divisions. 

The visit by the Southern All Star Racing Series to Cleveland Speedway on Saturday August 17 will be the tour’s fourth of five scheduled visits to the East Tennessee facility in 2013, with Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN winning the Shamrock 50 back on March 9, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN scoring the Coca-Cola Tennessee Memorial contest back on May 18, while Ray Cook was the series most recent winner at Cleveland Speedway back on July 13 in the Stars and Stripes 40 event.  The August 17 event will be the series 107th visit to the storied facility that has produced 37 different series winners, with Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA topping the winner’s list for drivers in Southern All Star Racing Series history at Cleveland Speedway with 17 victories. Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN has 7 series wins, while Clint Smith of Senoia, GA and Rex Richey of Ringgold, GA have six wins each, with Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN, Duayne Hommel of Newport, TN, and Chris Madden of Grays Court, SC each with 5 series checkered flags at Cleveland Speedway.  Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN is the defending champion of this event.

Activities for the Southern All Star Racing Series Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial event at Cleveland Speedway on Saturday August 17 will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m. and general admission open at 4:00 p.m., while the drivers meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. and practice laps set to begin immediately after the drivers meeting, followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing.  All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.  Ticket prices for the Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial at Cleveland Speedway in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, while a pit pass will be $30.

The entry fee for the Saturday August 17 Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial event at Cleveland Speedway is $100 and can be made payable to the Southern All Star Racing Series.  The tire rule is exclusively Hoosier Tires and the only compounds eligible to be used are the Hoosier 1350, 1450, and 1600 compounds. 

Cleveland Speedway is located at 2420 South Lee Highway in Cleveland, TN 37311.  Directions to Cleveland Speedway are to take I-75 to the first Cleveland Exit (coming south from Knoxville, take the Third Cleveland Exit), go east (away from Fireworks Bldg.) about a mile (first exit ramp) to Hwy. 11. Turn left (back under the overpass) on Hwy. 11, and go two blocks and the is on the left.
