17th Annual Michael Head Jr Memorial Southern All Stars At Talladega Short Track
FAYETTEVILLE, TN—Saturday night July 26thy at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL., along with the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series presents the 17th Annual Michael Head Jr Memorial a 40 lap $4,000 to win event in honor of the Michael Head Jr, the son of 1991 Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series Champion Mike Head who was killed in a car jacking incident in Atlanta over 17 years ago.
“It is hard to believe it has been 17 years since the tragedy happened and Michael was just starting to get some races going with the Southern All Stars when it happened” said SAS GM Lynn Acklin. “Lynn Phillips and Tim O’Brien originally put the idea together to remember Michael and over the years different people have come and gone and have been involved with the race, but one things has remained constant, it has always been at Talladega Short Track and it has always been a Southern All Star event.”
“I want thank Lynn Phillips and Alfred Gurley at Talladega Short Track along with Matt Wagner and Lynn Acklin at the Southern All Stars for keeping my son’s name out in front of everybody and not letting people forget about him and to thank them for holding this annual event honoring him.” said Mike Head. “We are going to try and run the Super Late Model event Saturday night and also we will also bring out a fan favorite our 2 seater late model to give fans rides around the track during and after the nights events.”
Riley Hickman of Cleveland TN., will be heading up the Southern All Star drivers into the event, along with Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN., Josh Putnam of Florence, AL., Dylan Ames of Harvest, AL., and Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN., all these drivers will be in action and in one the closet point battles in series history as from first to fifth are only separated by 122 points coning into the event.
Other drivers that are expected to be on hand include Jason Hiett of Anniston, AL., Bo Shirley of Gadsden, AL., Joe Armistead Jr of Senoia, GA., Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA., Tom Maddox of Centre, AL., David Seibers of Petersburg, TN., Tim Roszell of Anniston, AL., Ross Martin of Talladega, AL., Tim Busha of Boaz, AL., Terry Smith of Anniston, AL., plus many more drivers from across the southeast.
William Thomas of Phenix City, AL., is defending race winner.
Along with the Southern All Stars there will be a full racing program in all of Talladega Short Tracks divisions. Pit gates will open at 4 pm with drivers meeting at 6:30 pm hot laps to soon follow.
Southern All Star program will consist if Whiter Performance group qualifying, PPM Racing Products B Mains, along with a 40 lap $4,000 to win $400 to star feature.
