Southern All Star Racing Series at Volunteer Speedway June 14, Smoky Mountain Speedway June 15

Huntsville, AL- June 7, 2013- The Southern All Star Racing Series is set to roll right along with racing in the month of June with a doubleheader weekend of sorts as the road warriors of the Southern All Star Racing Series visit Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Friday June 14 to complete the 1st Annual Scott Sexton Memorial, which was halted by rain after 17 laps were completed, with 35 laps remaining and paying $5,200 to win the 52 lap event, followed by the 3rd Annual Big Daddy 500 presented by Tennessee RV at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday June 15, which will be 40 laps in distance and pay $5,000 to win.    

The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Volunteer Speedway on Friday June 14 will feature the conclusion of the 1st Annual Scott Sexton Memorial, restarting with 17 laps completed of the scheduled 52 lap distance, with Chris Madden of Gray’s Court, SC being the race leader and the race restarting with a Delaware double-file restart, per SAS Racing Series rules.  The field for this event is locked in and no new entries will be accepted, as 17 laps have already been scored in the $5,200 to win contest.  Joining the Southern All Star Racing Series for the conclusion of this event on Friday June 14 will be Steel Head/Crate Late Models racing for $2,000 to win and $150 to start, along with the track’s Modified Hobby division.

The Southern All Star Racing Series event at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday June 15 will feature a complete program of practice, A-B Group Time Trials, PPM Racing Products Last Chance Showdowns, and will conclude with the 40 lap, $5,000 to win 3rd Annual Big Daddy 500 presented by Tennessee RV Southern All Star Racing Series A-Main.  Joining the Southern All Star Racing Series in action at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday June 15 will be the track’s Crate Late Model ($1,000 to win), Street Stock ($300 to win), and Topless Modified divisions.

The visit by the Southern All Star Racing Series to Volunteer Speedway marked the tour’s first visit to the East Tennessee speedplant, which began operation during the 1974 race season, since the 2004 race season.  The SAS travelers have made eleven previous visits in the tour’s history to Volunteer Speedway, with nine different winners.  Only the late Scott Sexton himself and former SAS tour champion Duayne Hommel have been repeat winners in SAS competition at Volunteer Speedway with two victories each.  The conclusion of the Scott Sexton Memorial on Friday June 14 will produce the tour’s tenth different winner at the facility.

The visit by the Southern All Star Racing Series to Smoky Mountian Speedway will mark the tour’s second visit of 2013 to the famous East Tennessee speedplant that has been racing for better than 40 years, famous for having hosted NASCAR Grand National events with names such as Allison, Petty, Lund, Pearson, Baker, Waltrip, and Bonnett among others in competition.  The tour has made 17 previous visits to Smoky Mountain Speedway, with twelve different drivers visiting victory lane.  Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN has the most SAS Racing Series wins at the track with four, while Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN and Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN are the only other repeat winners in SAS action at “The Mountain” with two wins each.  Hill is the defending champion of this event and Blairsville, GA native Jonathan Davenport was victorious in the tour’s first visit of the year back on March 23.

Among those expected from the Southern All Star Racing Series stable of drivers include series points leader Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, TN, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN, Jason Hiett of Oxford, AL, Mark Rosner of Rockford, TN, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA, Bret Holmes of Munford, AL, Billy Ogle, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Hunter Peacock of Gray, GA, Mark Vineyard of Powell, TN, Randy Weaver of Crossville, TN, and Bo Shirley of Gadsden, AL, along with a strong array of talented local and regional racing stars such as Chris Madden of Gray’s Court, SC, Clint Smith of Senoia, GA, Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN, Skip Arp of Georgetown, TN, Brian Hendrix of Knoxville, TN, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Vic Hill of Mosheim, TN, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, TN, Stacy Boles of Clinton, TN, Josh Collins of Knoxville, TN, Bobby Giffin of Maryville, TN, Dusty Carver of Englewood, TN, Mark Douglas of Knoxville, TN, Brett Miller of Greeneville, TN, plus many more are expected.  The tour has presented six events already in 2013 and saw five different drivers visit victory with the series this season.

Activities for the conclusion of the Southern All Star Racing Series 1st Annual Scott Sexton Memorial event at Volunteer Speedway on Friday June 14 will see pit gates open at 4:00 p.m, with the general admission area opening at 6:00 p.m.  Driver registration and car inspection is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The drivers meeting will be at 7:15 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing.  All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.  All race teams and race fans can bring their ticket stub or pit pass from the June 1 rainout and be readmitted for the event.  However, those with rainchecks or visiting this event for the first time will see ticket prices for the Southern All Star Racing Series at Volunteer Speedway on Friday June 14 in the general admission area is $20 for adults, children ages 11 to 15 is $5, children ages 10 and under are free, and a pit pass will be $35.

Activities for the Southern All Star Racing Series 3rd Annual Big Daddy 500 presented by Tennessee RV at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday June 15 will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission and tier parking areas open at 5:00 p.m.  The drivers meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin around 7:30 p.m., followed by time trials and green flag racing.  All times listed are Eastern Daylight Time.  Ticket prices for the Southern All Star Racing Series 3rd Annual Big Daddy 500 presented by Tennessee RV  in the general admission area will be $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 11, and children ages 5 and under are free.  In tier parking, admission prices will be $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 11, and children ages 5 and under are free.  A pit pass will be $35.

The entry fee for the June 15 event at Smoky Mountain Speedway is $100 and can be made payable to the Southern All Star Racing Series.  The tire rule is exclusively Hoosier Tires and the only compounds eligible to be used are the Hoosier 1350, 1450, and 1600 compounds.
