Randy Weaver Still Hot With Third Southern All Star Win At Smoky Mt Speedway

MARYVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series ran its first race of the 2015 season Friday night at the Smoky Mt Speedway and if you are a Randy Weaver fan is was your kind of night. Weaver in his Outlaw Racing Southeast Longhorn Chassis with a Cornett Engines sponsored by Stone Land Cleaning & Excavating/Mission Transport/AF Stone Professional Medical Services/The Bailey Company set fast time in Whiter Performance Qualifying an d the proceeded to lead the entire 40 lap Rockin with the Stars 40 presented by WIMZ 103.5.

Weaver took the lead at the start ahead of out pole sitter Mike Marlar and then after battling some early caution period struggles to get the race started, Weaver had complete control of the race as he built up as much as a half straight lead over the second place battle that was for the record books as Marlar, Dale McDowell, Skip Arp, Casey Robert and Chris Madden were battling for position lap after lap until lap 16 when Arp tagged the outside wall ending his night in this race.

Weaver then survived a couple more cautions late in the race and kept his winning streak alive at 6 out of 6 races that he has entered so far in 2015. McDowell fierce battle for the second as beat Marlar back to the line, Casey Roberts came home fourth and Chris Madden rounded out the top five.

Tommy Kerr started 11th and worked his into a 6th place finish, followed by Stacy Boles in 7th, Billy Ogle Jr 8th, defending Southern All Star champion Riley Hickman had to use a provisional to get in the show, but he made good use of it and came from his 23rd starting spot to grab 9th place and Skylar Marlar finished 10th.

The next event for the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will be on Saturday night May 2nd the Annual NASCAR weekend event at the Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL., a 40 lap $4,000 to win event.

Longtime Southern All Star Racing Series Supporter Alfred Gurley Passes Away

FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series lost one of its biggest supporters Friday morning as co owner of the Talladega Short Track Alfred Gurley passed away after a lengthy illness, Gurley who along with Lynn Phillips are co owner of the Talladega Short Track and have been a key part in the success of the Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series over its 32 year history and are still a part of the series to this day having hosted over 100 Southern All Star events..

“Alfred Gurley was from the old school of promoters and did things his way, you might question some of things that he done, but most of the time his was spot on in what he wanted to do or what was going to take place,” said Lynn Acklin of the Southern All Stars. “We had our in and out over things, but I know Alfred really liked Southern All Stars and for what it did for his track and helped out drivers and what it can still do today”

Gurley and Phillips have built Talladega Short Track from its time in 1977 to one of the top dirt tracks in the country and in 2008 they were named RPM National Promoters of the Year.

The funeral arrangements for Talladega Short Track Co-Owner/Promoter Alfred Gurley will be Visitation on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the Funeral Service to follow at the Usery Funeral Home, 516 North Street East, Talladega, AL 35160, 256-362-2344. Mr. Gurley passed away on Friday morning. He was 82-years-old.
