Rodney Sanders Guns Down USRA National Championship Foes

Happy, Texas (09/06/14) – Rodney Sanders continued his record setting 2014 season over the weekend as he entered the inaugural United States Racing Association (USRA) National Championships at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) and came away with the $5,000 victory in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/Wichita Tank Racing/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified.

Sanders went into battle against a strong field of forty-five entries on Friday night, but unfortunately, struggles in heat race action forced him to run a b-main. Rodney charged from twelfth in his b-main to claim the win, earning him the seventeenth starting spot in the 20 lap preliminary feature. Despite starting near the back of the pack, Sanders advanced to a sixth place finish behind race winner, Nic Bidinger, Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, Jake Gallardo, and Darron Fuqua.

Via his preliminary night performance Rodney started twelfth in Saturday night's $5,000-to-win finale. When the race went green, Sanders methodically worked his way forward in the 40 lapper and eventually slipped past race-long leader Jesse Sobbing with fifteen laps remaining. Sobbing settled into the runner-up spot while Terry Phillips, Nic Bidinger and Jeremy Payne completed the top five. The win marked his 33rd of the 2014 season.

"It sure wasn't warm this weekend, but it's funny how a win will make you feel nice and warm," laughed Sanders. "Thanks again goes out to my great sponsors, crew, and fans."
