Rodney Sanders Claims First USMTS Title; Knoxville Late Model Nationals Next

Happy, Texas (09/24/13) - The final event of the Hunt for the Casey's Cup with the United States Modified Touring Series began on Thursday night and ultimately concluded on Friday evening with the opening round of the 15th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota), and Rodney Sanders raced his way to his first USMTS National Championship in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/ MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified!

The mega-event opened on Thursday evening after being delayed a few hours by rain with 89 entries registering for battle in the $3,000-to-win event. Sanders entered the evening just 8 points removed from the top spot. A 3rd to 1st run in his heat race resulted in Rodney being the second highest points earner on the evening. However, before the redraw and feature could be contested curfew restrictions forced the remainder of the event to be postponed until Friday evening.

Rodney received the 3rd starting spot for the 40 lap feature, and he would battle at the front of the pack, even briefly leading, before settling into a 2nd place finish behind race winner, Ryan Gustin. His performance in the feature was enough to earn Sanders his first-career, USMTS Championship!

"We came so close to winning the title a year ago that it made us want it even more this year, so this is real special," an elated Sanders commented. "I have to thank all of my sponsors, family, and fans for their awesome support."

Friday night found a $4,000-to-win, USMTS event being contested with 90 cars in the pits. After storming to the win in his heat race Rodney earned the 4th starting spot for the feature. Unfortunately his night came to an abrupt early end on lap 9, when he slowed with mechanical issues to a 23rd place finish.

The Fall Jamboree finale was held on Saturday evening as a $6,000 winner's check was posted for the 60 lapper. Preliminary action resulted in Sanders starting 9th in the feature, and during the course of the 60 lap feature Rodney advanced six spots to finish 3rd behind race winner, Rodney Sanders, and Terry Phillips.

Full results from the event are available at www.USMTS.com .

This weekend Sanders will return to the cockpit of his #20 MB Customs Super Late Model for the first time in over two months as he goes into battle with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in the 10th Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals at the legendary Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa). On Thursday and Saturday complete $7,000-to-win programs will be held, while Saturday night's event will be headlined by a series of alphabet races that will culminate with the $40,000-to-win finale! Chris Brown Wins Again in U.S. National Dirt Track Championship

Spring, Texas (09/24/13) – Chris Brown took part in the Port-A-Cool U.S. National Dirt Track Championship over the weekend, which saw 91 entries register for battle in the $3,000-to-win event at the state-of-the-art facility, and he came away with the big win for the second year in a row in his #21 Delta Flange & Manufacturing/Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance/Hughes Open Wheel Modified!

After seeing Friday night's program washed away by rain the program was consolidated into a single program on Saturday. Brown started his outing by charging from his 10th starting spot to a 2nd place finish. Via his heat race performance Chris locked into the 3rd starting spot in the A-main qualifier, and he advanced to a 2nd place finish to lock into the middle-front-row starting spot for the finale between Shane Hebert and Troy Taylor.

As the feature went green with the field lined up three wide, Brown bolted to the lead and never looked back on his way to the victory, which marked his second straight in the event and came over Jake O'Neil, Corey Babbitt, William Gould, and Phillip Houston. The victory was his third of the 2013 season!

“I really knew I had to get the jump on the start to make life a lot easier,” Brown said. “The race track had a lot of character tonight so it would make it a lot easier if I was out in front determining where I would need to go instead of having somebody else determine it for me. Anytime you’re starting three-wide, it can be pretty treacherous so that was another reason I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could.”

Full results from the race are available at www.TexasMotorSpeedway.com .

This weekend, September 26th-28th, Brown tentatively plans to travel to Lone Star Speedway (Kilgore, Texas) for the inaugural Armadillo Nationals, which will post a $10,000 top prize. Action begins on Thursday and Friday evening with preliminary events, while consolation events and the 50 lap finale being held on Saturday night. For more information on the event, please visit www.LoneStarSpeedway.com .

Jason Hughes Races to $8k Payday in Fall Jamboree

Westville, Oklahoma (09/24/13) – While Jason Hughes fell short in his bid to claim the Hunt for the Casey's USMTS Championship over the weekend he did successfully power his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Hughes Race Car/Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified to the $8,000 win in the Fall Jamboree finale.

Jason Hughes entered the opening round of the 15th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree on Thursday evening, and he would face more than his fair share of bad luck over the course of the next 24 hours as he tried to claim his second USMTS title.

The opening round of the mega-event served as the final round of the Hunt for the Casey's Cup USMTS National Championship. Eighty-nine entries registered for action, and after a three hour, rain delay action finally commenced with Jason starting 10th in his heat race, and despite an early-race altercation he would advance to a 6th place finish. His finish sent him to a b-main, which wouldn't be contested until Friday evening due to curfew restrictions.

When action resumed his luck would not be any better as a flat tire in his b-main forced him to utilize a provisional to start 29th on the grid for the finale. In the 40 lap, $3,000-to-win feature Hughes mounted a great charge through the pack as he battled to a 5th place finish behind race winner, Ryan Gustin, Rodney Sanders, Jeremy Payne, and Jason Krohn. Despite his impressive performance Hughes fell just short in his bid for the title as Sanders claimed the USMTS National Championship.

Friday night found a complete new show being contested with a $4,000 top prize on the line. With 90 entries in the pit area Hughes battled back luck in heat race action before finishing 4th in a b-main to earn the 28th starting spot for the feature. He went on to retire on lap 3 of the feature event with mechanical woes to a 29th place finish.

With the 15th Annual Fall Jamboree drawing to a close on Saturday night, Hughes hoped to end the weekend on a high note, and he would achieve just that by racing to the $8,000 win, which marked his tenth win of 2013! Jason raced his way into the 6th starting spot for the 60 lap finale via his 13th to 2nd run in heat race action. He stalked early leader, Johnny Scott, until lap 21, when Hughes took over the top spot. Despite a late-race challenge from Terry Phillips, Hughes raced to the big victory. He was followed across the finish line by Phillips, Rodney Sanders, Kelly Shryock, and Ryan Gustin.

“It was a hell of a good track,” an elated Hughes said in victory lane. “I wish we could have come out with that championship. I think we had as good a shot as anybody, but we just couldn’t get qualified out of our heat. It was fun racing out there and I hope the fans enjoyed the show.”
In addition to the published $6,000 winner’s share of the prize money, Hughes also bagged an additional $1,000 from Red Tail Tackle and another $1,000 past champion bonus after he won the event for the fourth time in the last nine years.

Full results from the events as well as the final standings are available at www.USMTS.com .

Hughes is slated to not race anywhere this weekend. He will next return to competition on October 2nd-5th at Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) with the inaugural Sunflower Showdown. For more information on the events, please visit www.USMTS.com .
