Tony Jackson Jr. Tops MARS Action at Caney Valley

Lebanon, Missouri (08/05/14) – After a week away from the track, Tony Jackson Jr. made a triumphant return to the seat of his #56 TJR Motorsports/RLB Financial/Cornett powered Rocket Super Late Model. The team entered the James House Memorial at Caney Valley Speedway (Caney, Kansas), which saw Tony visit MARS DIRTcar Series Victory Lane for the first time this season.

The current and defending MARS Champion went into battle against a strong field of twenty-six entries at the 1/4 mile oval. Having used a heat race win to lock into the finale, Jackson Jr. charged to the lead by lap 11 and survived contact with Chance Bishop, which left damage to the nosepiece on his machine, to score the $3,066 payday. Bishop finished second followed by Justin Asplin, Brandon McCormick, and Cole Wells rounding out the top five finishers.  The win marked Tony's fourth of the 2014 season.

"Things got a little wild there with Chance, but luckily the damage didn't hamper us too bad, and we were able to get the win," said Jackson Jr. "It seems like we are getting better with this new car every time we hit the track."

Tony continues to lead the latest MARS DIRTcar Series standings. Full results from the event and the latest series' standings are available at www.MARSRacingSeries.com.

The upcoming weekend, August 8th-9th, will take Tony and the team to Junction Motor Speedway (McCool Junction, Nebraska) for the 11th Annual King of the Hill event.  The program will see the MARS, Lucas Oil MLRA, and NCRA Late Model tours all sanctioning the program. On Friday night a $2,000 top prize is on the line, while Saturday's festivities will be headlined by a $3,000-to-win event. For more information on the event, please visit www.MARSRacingSeries.com .

Twenty-Five is the New Number for Rodney Sanders

Happy, Texas (08/05/14) – The number on the side of his Swan Energy/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified may be the #20, but Rodney Sanders win total for 2014 now stands at #25 after a pair of wins over the weekend.

Sanders competed in the opener for the 2014 USMTS Hunt for the Casey's Cup on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas). Thirty-three entries attacked the 3/8 mile, clay oval, and after finishing fourth in his heat race from the seventh starting spot, Sanders had to run a b-main. Rodney won his b-main to earn the twelfth starting spot for the $3,000-to-win finale. In the 35 lap feature Sanders advanced to a fourth place finish behind race winner Terry Phillips, Jeremy Payne, and Zack VanderBeek.

Sanders returned to his winning ways on Saturday night as the tour invaded the 1/4 mile confines of Springfield Raceway (Springfield, Missouri). Thirty-eight Open Wheel Modified warriors registered for the $3,000-to-win program, and a heat race win positioned Rodney on the pole for the 35 lap finale with Logan Martin alongside. Sanders took control at the drop of the green flag, and held off a last lap charge from Jeremy Payne to score the victory over Payne, Terry Phillips, Zack VanderBeek, and Cade Dillard.

Rodney unloaded his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/Wichita Tank Racing/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified on Sunday evening at Monett Speedway (Monett, Missouri). Thirty-three entries converged on the oval, and Sanders won his heat race to earn a spot in the redraw where he drew the pole position for the 40 lap feature. Rodney assumed the point over fellow front-row starter Stormy Scott when the race went green, and led all 40 lap for his second victory of the weekend, worth $3,000. Johnny Bone Jr. finished second followed by Terry Phillips, Stormy Scott, and Johnny Scott.

"What a great way to start the Hunt this weekend was," said Sanders with a smile. "I really want to repeat as champion this year, and this is a great way to start things."

Rodney is currently leading the latest Hunt for the Casey's Cup standings. Full results from the events and the current standings are available at www.USMTS.com

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/05/14) – Ricky Weiss once again parked his #7 Derrick's Sandblasting/Bloomquist/ Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model in WISSOTA Blaine Brothers Challenge Series victory lane over the weekend and along the way took the lead in the series standings.

Jared Hawkins Notches First Win of 2014 Campaign

Fairmont, West Virginia (08/05/14) – Jared Hawkins powered his #37 Rick Sturms Motorsports/Rocket Super Late Model to his first victory of the 2014 season in a Weekly Racing Series program at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex (Markleysburg, Pennsylvania) on Saturday night.

Jared started his night with a sixth to second run in heat race action, earning him the fourth starting spot on the feature grid. In the main event Hawkins took control on lap five and led the rest of the way to score the victory over Billy Holbert, Cody Hardesty, Scott Rhodes, and L.C. Powers.
Action shifted to Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, West Virginia) on Saturday night for annual Bud Weigle Memorial, which posted a $1,500 winner's check for Super Late Model competitors. Jared timed in second fastest overall during time trials, sending him to the dash where he advanced to a fourth place finish after starting fifth. In the feature Hawkins was battling for second when contact from another competitor sent him spinning. As a result he chose to retire from the balance of the program to a fourteenth place finish.

"Not a bad weekend at all for us," noted Hawkins. "We had a good car both nights, and while things didn't end the way we wanted at Tyler County, at least we knew we were contenders again." He concluded by saying, "Hopefully all of the bad luck that we had to start the year is finally behind us."

Full results from the weekend are available at www.RoaringKnob.com or www.TylerCountySpeedwayOnline.com .
