Three Win Weekend for Rodney Sanders; Busy USMTS Schedule on Tap

Happy, Texas (06/16/15) – Not only did Rodney Sanders score the 50th USMTS win of his career over the weekend, but for good measure he also added an additional two triumphs aboard his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified.

Rodney Sanders resumed racing action on Wednesday night at KRA Speedway (Wilmar, Minnesota) with a United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) event. With a packed house of 38 Modifieds, Sanders earned his way into the Casey’s General Stores A-Main with a 3rd place spot in his heat. After starting in 11th, Rodney battled mechanical issues to a 23rd place finish.

The following night proved to have better results for Rodney as he continued on the USMTS Tour. With an even larger field of 41 entries, Sanders made the trip to Viking Speedway (Alexandria, Minnesota) in hopes to capture the $4,000 payday. Following a 2nd place exit in his heat, Rodney Sanders advanced five positions in the 35-lap feature to record a 2nd spot behind race winner, Brady Gerdes with Jesse Sobbing, Craig Thatcher and Zack Johnson rounding out the top five competitors.

On Friday night Rodney continued the busy weekend by making the trip to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) for a two day event. In addition to USMTS competition, Sanders also piloted his Super Late Model in the DIRTCar Summer Nationals portion of the program. Out of field of twenty-four competitors, Rodney Sanders captured his seventh Modified feature win of the 2015 season with Joey Jensen, Jesse Sobbing, Cade Dillard and Cory Crapser rounding out the top five. In his Super Late Model, Rodney advanced seven spots from 13th to 6th in the 40-lap DIRTCar Summer Nationals feature.

Saturday night proved to have very similar results for Sanders as he competed in both divisions once again. Rodney piloted his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Open Wheel Modified into victory lane to complete the weekend sweep and record eighth Modified feature win of the season. With another mid-pack starting spot in his Late Model for the DIRTCar Summer Nationals A-Main, Sanders gained eight positons to log another 6th place finish.

To complete the busy but successful weekend, Rodney Sanders traveled to Cresco Speedway (Cresco, Iowa) for another USMTS race on Sunday evening. With twenty-two Modifieds on hand for the 13th Annual Stars & Stripes Shootout, Sanders scored a 2nd place spot in his heat, paving his way to the feature. Starting in the 5th position, Rodney went on to capture his third USMTS Modified feature in a row. Winning the Casey’s General Stores A-Main, Rodney Sanders ousted Dan Ebert, Jesse Glenz, Jesse Sobbing and Brent Larson to acquire a $3,000 payday. He now has eleven wins this season.

“What a weekend it was for our team,” commented Sanders. “I’ve got to give a lot of credit to my crew because they had to work their tails off this weekend with all of the races and especially running both cars. They did a great job, and it showed in our results on the track.”
