Rodney Sanders Enjoys Successful Speedweeks; USMTS Up Next

Happy, Texas (02/20/13) – Rodney Sanders recently completed the Florida Speedweeks swing in his #20 Swan Energy/Kimrad Transport/MB Customs/Geddes Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified and scored a pair of wins to show for his efforts.

Sanders made his first-ever trip to the sunshine state with the intent of competing in a total of ten events, but Mother Nature would have other ideas as rain claimed the win in three of the programs.  His first event came at Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) on February 8th, and he came away with a $3,000 victory before finishing fourth in the finale the next night.

On February 10th he was in action with the UMP Open Wheel Modifieds at North Florida Speedway (Lake City, Florida), where he finished second to feature winner, Kenny Wallace.

The final destination for the team was Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the 42nd Annual UNOH DIRTCar Nationals, where a field of more than 80 of the nation’s best UMP Open Wheel Modifieds registered for battle.  Sanders won the first night out of the box on February 12th before watching Mother Nature claim the next two rounds.  In his preliminary event for the Gator Championship on February 16th Sanders finished fifth to lock into the redraw for the $5,000-to-win finale on February 18th, where he would be the recipient of the third position.  He and the Swan Energy team had high hopes for the feature, but mechanical issues in the opening laps sidelined him to a disappointing 28th place finish.  Full results from the event are available at www.DIRTCarNationals.com .

“Even though the weather didn’t cooperate and kept us from racing a few nights, our Florida trip was a great one,” commented Sanders.  “It gave us a chance to learn the handle of our car on different tires than we normally run.  To already have five wins on the year in the new MB Customs Chassis is a major shot in the arm for our team.  We can’t wait for the next event!”

Next on tap for Rodney Sanders is a tripleheader at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas) with the USMTS Modified Series in the 4th Annual USMTS Texas Spring Championship.  The program features three events with $4,000-possible-to-win on Thursday night, $5,000-possible-to-win on Friday night, and $6,000-possible-to-win on Saturday night.  For more information on the event, please visit www.USTMS.com
