SALDANA AND MOTTER TEAM LOOKING FOR SOME GOOD FORTUNE
AT ROLLING WHEELS RACEWAY

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2014) – The World of Outlaws season is winding down.  With only five races left on the racing calendar this year, the Outlaws make just one stop this weekend Saturday, Oct. 11 at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park during the NAPA Auto Parts Super Dirt Week XLIII.

Rolling Wheels Raceway Parkis a fast, semi-banked 5/8-mile oval.

With seven victories to their credit this year, Joey Saldana and the Motter Equipment HE&M Saw Beltline Body Shop team are looking to increase their season tally.

“Admittedly, lately, it’s been feast or famine for our team,” said owner Dan Motter.  “We celebrated great back-to-back victories at Eldora and Lernerville Sept. 19 and 20, and then our performance fell off a bit.  We hope to be able to rally back and end the season on the strong note we are capable of.”

Last year at Rolling Wheels in the first of two events contested at the track, Saldana captured the No. 1 qualifying spot.  He was running fourth early in the event when a flat tire sent him to the work area and subsequently the rear of the field.  He was able to work his way back up to a 10th place finish. In the second event, the 71M team fought bizarre circumstances all night beginning with a broken rear end in hot laps.

“This is a track where we need to bring our lucky horseshoe,” said Motter.  “We have the combination to race well here if we can sidestep mechanical misfortune.”

With 83 events in the 2014 record books, Saldana has been the leading World of Outlaws qualifier, tallying 23 quick times. He has set two track records (Stockton, Calif., Calistoga, Calif.) and has led 336 feature laps (third in laps led this season).

The team has been battling for fourth place in Outlaws point standings with Kerry Madsen.  Saldana sits fifth currently, trailing Madsen by 34 points.

Bell Rings Up Double Duty after Weekend Washout!

Lonnie Wheatley, NORMAN, Okla. (October 8, 2014) – Five races.  That was the plan last weekend for Christopher Bell.

The result was a weekend sweep.  For Mother Nature, that is, as the Gold Crown Midget Nationals at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL, fell victim to rain all three nights with a pair of MOWA Winged Sprint Car outings doused in the process too.

“I was really looking forward to getting in five races in one weekend, it was disappointing to lose the entire weekend to weather,” said the 19-year-old racer from Norman, OK, that has already racked up 20 feature wins in 2014.

He’ll get a shot at some more this weekend with double duty at Illinois’ Lincoln Speedway on Friday night and then at least one division, if not two, on Saturday night at Eldora Speedway.

Friday night’s action at Lincoln Speedway will find Bell behind the wheel of the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 71 Midget for some POWRi action while also buckling into the Fox Brothers No. 53 winged Sprint Car for some 410-ci MOWA competition.

From there, Bell and the Fox Brothers No. 53 will make the five hour journey to Ohio’s Eldora Speedway for the All Star Circuit of Champions season finale with Bell also hoping to find a seat to fill in the NRA Sprint Invaders 360-ci portion of the UNOH Sprintacular.

“I’d really like to find a 360 ride for Saturday at Eldora, that way I could do double duty both nights this weekend and get in four more races,” Bell said.

A defending winner of Friday night’s POWRi Midget event at Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, IL, Bell scored a runner-up finish in his only previous Lincoln appearance of the year on August 15.

Bell has enjoyed some strong runs at Eldora too this season including a drive that netted Hard Charger efforts at the prestigious Kings Royal event in July.

“They’re both tracks that we’ve been good at, hopefully we can add another win or two along the way,” Bell concluded.

2014 Quick Stats:  89 races, 20 wins, 47 top-fives, 59 top-tens.

Next Up:

Friday, Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, IL) – Kunz No. 71 Midget (POWRi) and Fox Brothers No. 53 410-ci winged Sprint Car (MOWA)

Saturday, Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, OH) – Fox Brothers No. 53 410-ci winged Sprint Car (All Star Circuit of Champions) and available for an NRA Sprint Invaders winged 360-ci ride
