SALDANA IMPRESSES IN SALINA:
SETS QUICK TIME AND TRACK RECORD, FINISHES FIFTH IN A-MAIN

SALINA, Okla. (April 27, 2013) – Joey Saldana, driver of the Motter Equipment Fatheadz Eyewear 71M, joined a field of drivers with itchy throttle feet at Salina Highbanks Speedway.  With rain cancellations at Paducah, Ky. last weekend, Pevely, Mo. this weekend and last night’s event rescheduled for tonight because of rain, the World of Outlaws drivers and crews couldn’t wait to get the action started.

With lots of moisture in the racing surface and cool temperatures, the track was lightning fast verified in qualifying when 20 drivers shattered the existing track record of 12.874 seconds set in 2011 by Craig Dollansky.  Leading the pack with his second quick time and track record of the season was Saldana with an astounding 11.177-second lap around the Salina Highbanks.

Saldana started heat one in the fourth position and gained one spot to finish third and transfer to the heat.

As the No. 1 qualifier, the Brownsburg Bullet executed the draw for the dash inversion and drew the No. 8 ping pong ball consigning the 71M  to the eighth starting position.

In dash action, track conditions enabled the drivers to keep the throttle down, driving flat out, making it hard to pass.  Saldana did gain two positions to finish sixth.

Starting sixth in the A-Main, Saldana gained one position on the first lap. In constant traffic on the 3/8-mile track, passing was difficult.  The biggest challenges on the track were among the top three competitors.  Saldana drove hard for 30 laps, giving it everything he could, finishing fifth.

Craig Dollansky won the event, Paul McMahan was second and Daryn Pittman rounded out the podium finish.

“We were happy to get the race in tonight,” said the Brownsburg Bullet.  “This was a very wet, fast track and it wasn’t as wide as it could have been if Mother Nature had cooperated with less rain.

“All in all, though, it was a good night for our team.”

The Outlaws head to the famed Eldora Speedway for a doubleheader next Friday and Saturday nights, May 5-6.

Henry Out Duels VanWormer for Attica ALMS Win
By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH) After an edge-of-your-seat, race-long duel with Jeep VanWormer, Ada, Ohio’s Jon Henry was able to pull away on a couple of late race restarts to take the Sunoco American Late Model Series win at Attica Raceway Park on True Value of Woodville/Merrill Lynch/Columbus Equipment Night.
The 30-lap late model main featured a tremendous battle the entire distance between Henry, Brian Ruhlman, Jeep Van Wormer and a charging Matt Miller who stormed from his 18th starting spot to be a contender at the end.

“I earned that one tonight. I tell you what, this is emotional for me. I have a lot of people supporting me and one individual in particular, Darrell Kirsch…I wanted to win one for him,” said Henry Beside his Mean 15 – individuals and businesses that sponsored his #15 this season. “It’s tough…I’ve been thinking about him and I’m thinking about Kent Robinson, a fellow racer who lost his dad today. I raced that race for them.”

Henry said it was “heart” that got him to victory lane. “I just got up on the wheel and said I’m not letting this one slip away…I let the last one slip away, I’m racing my ass off,” he said. “You’d better be elbows up when Jeep’s around. I knew what I had to do to win this race and it was either wreck or win. I have to thank my dad, John; he busts his butt for me.”

Henry thanked his “Mean 15” sponsors of Fultz Fabrications, Henry Farms, Mike and Sheila Keller, Truman Quarter horses, Lehman & Lehman, Norada Lanes, Associated Plastic, Home Savings and Loan, William H. Bass Trucking, Ron Spencer Real Estate, Jim Weber Motorsports, Automated Transport, In Memory of Darrell Kirsch, Re-Deck of Northwest Ohio, and Fremont Speedway.

Bruce Jr. Records First Victory of the Season in First Appearance at Boyd Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - ABILENE, Texas (April 28, 2013) - After making the tough decision to postpone his first TBJ Promotions event of the season because of rain, Tony Bruce Jr. then had the difficult task of finding a dry place to race.

After a quick search, he found the Smiley's Racing Products Lone Star Region doubleheader in Texas. With a positive weather forecast, Bruce Jr. headed to the Lone Star State for the second straight weekend as the 5th annual Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 was postponed one week until this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

First up, a trip to Boyd Raceway in Boyd, where Bruce Jr. led all 25 feature laps in his first appearance at the quarter-mile track to garner his first victory of the season on Friday. It came at a great time for Bruce Jr., who was searching for his first feature podium of the season.

"We didn't want to rain the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 out, but it was inevitable," he said. "We were lucky enough to find a race to race at and fortunate enough to pick up a win.

"You always want to get that first one just to get it going. It's pretty nice having our first win with our Eagle Motorsports car and our first win with Roush Yates Racing Engines. It was also nice because most of the sponsors were there. It was the best time in the world to win a race."

After driving from fourth to third in his heat race, Bruce Jr. was the eighth - and final - driver in the redraw. When the other seven drivers had their starting position randomly picked and one number remained, the No. 2 was plucked to garner a spot on the front row for Bruce Jr.

Using the high groove on the start - and for much of the race - Bruce Jr. powered around polesitter Claud Estes III for the lead exiting turn two on the opening lap. Despite a couple of cautions bunching up the field, Bruce Jr. maintained the lead and his momentum around the top of the track en route to the dominant victory.

"We were real good through lapped traffic," he said. "If I wanted to go to the bottom, I'd go to the bottom. If I wanted to go to the top, I'd go to the top."

The weekend concluded with a two and a half hour drive west to Abilene Speedway, where Bruce Jr. once again drove from fourth to third in his heat race on Saturday. This time, however, it didn't earn him enough points to make it into the redraw.
He started the main event 10th on the quarter-mile oval, which favored the bottom groove all night.

"The only way you could pass is if somebody messed up in front of you," Bruce Jr. said. "We got by some cars at the beginning of the race. By the halfway point everybody had tried something and realized you couldn't do anything but be right around the bottom. I just kind of had to settle for fifth."

Bruce Jr. earned his second straight top five and put together his first weekend of consecutive top fives since the season opener.

Next up is the second attempt at the 5th annual Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50 this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Rose Tired of Being a Spectator, Could Return to Action This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - SALINA, Okla. (April 29, 2013) - Bill Rose is tired of watching.

After taking the last two weeks off to focus on rehabbing his left arm, which was broken during action in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series season-opening weekend, Rose is contemplating a return to the seat when the series heads to Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday.

"My arm is feeling so good and I'm just tired of being a spectator," he said. "I don't think my arm is 100 percent, but I can race with it."

Rose has been working out at PitFit Training in Indianapolis and recently had a doctor discover that something in his elbow was misaligned.

"He said, 'There's something messed up in your elbow," and I was like, 'No kidding. That's what I've been trying to tell everyone,'" Rose said. "He grabbed my arm and you should have seen how far back he put it. It was the loudest pop."
Rose's flexibility and strength has dramatically improved since that moment and if it continues the next few days, he said there is a chance he will race this weekend.

Meanwhile, Bill Rose Racing driver David Gravel recorded another top 10 during the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series lone event last weekend.

After rain soaked the Midwest, Friday's event at Salina Highbanks Speedway was postponed to Saturday. On a fast track, Gravel qualified eighth to make the inversion for the heat races. He started and finished second, earning him a spot in the dash.

Gravel finished the dash in fifth place, which is where he started the main event.

"He ran good," Rose said. "The track was so fast there wasn't much passing. For some reason the engine wouldn't run well until halfway through the race. So he lost a few spots on the start and after that it was just follow the leader."

Gravel placed ninth on the high-banked track, which was the eighth top-10 finish for Bill Rose Racing this season.

Starks Faces Rainout After Setting Quick Time at Grays Harbor Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - ELMA, Wash. (April 29, 2013) - Frustrating is the nice way of putting it.
Losing another opportunity to race because of rain last Saturday was, well, frustrating. But the fact that Trey Starks had set quick time in qualifying was a difficult pill to swallow when the second event of the season at Grays Harbor Raceway was called because of weather prior to the heat races.

"It's kind of frustrating," he said. "You show up to the track and get halfway through and it gets called. Maybe it will result in good karma the rest of the season."

It was Starks' first appearance this season at the 3/8-mile track, where he has earned a podium finish in each of his last three races and his most recent feature win.

"The car felt really good," he said. "It was pretty hooked up because it had been raining. It looked like if it stopped raining it would have been a decent track. Unfortunately, we got bad weather."

Weather permitting, Starks is scheduled to compete on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway or at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where he finished seventh in his only race this season.

SEASON STATS -
1 race, 0 wins, 0 top fives, 1 top 10, 1 top 15, 1 top 20
