Jason Krohn Races to First Win of 2014; Royal Purple Next

Slayton, Minnesota (02/10/14) - Jason Krohn from Slayton, Minnesota wasted little time adding his name into the win column on the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) for the 2014 season as he claimed the victory in the season opener on Saturday night at South Texas Speedway (Corpus Christi, Texas).

The $3,000-to-win, opening round of the 2nd Annual Sparkling City Nationals found thirty-seven entries registering for action, and a third to first charge in his heat race sent Jason to the redraw for the feature, where he was the recipient of the sixth starting spot for the 40 lap finale. By lap 15 of the main event Krohn already found himself in the second position, and six laps later on a restart he rocketed past leader, Steve Whiteaker Jr. to take the lead. The 2007 USMTS Champion went on to lead the remaining laps to score his first victory of the season in his #7k MB Customs/Sput’s Racing Engine entry. He was followed across the finish line by Steve Whiteaker Jr., Rodney Sanders, Stormy Scott, and Cade Dillard.

The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening with Round #2 of the 2nd Annual Sparkling City Nationals, which boasted a $4,000 top prize. Jason started fourth in his qualifying heat race and finished second, earning him an eighth place starting spot on the grid for the 40 lap feature. Unfortunately, Krohn's night would come an early disappointing end when was the casualty of a multi-car incident with just two laps in the books. Krohn was credited with a 23rd place finish.

“Even though Sunday’s outing came to a quick and disappointing end, we were really thrilled with the win on Saturday night,” noted Krohn. “It’s been a definite learning curve so far this year in the Super Late Model so it felt good to get back to the familiar confines of the Open Wheel Modified.”

Krohn continues his tour of Texas this Thursday through Saturday, February 13th-15th with a trio of USMTS events that will be held as part of the 5th Annual Texas Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas). The weekend will be highlighted by a $2,000-to-win event on Thursday, a $3,000-to-win race on Friday, and a $4,000-to-win race on Saturday night. All events will award points toward the MVT Gulf Coast Border Region. For more information on the event please visit www.USMTS.com .

NEW CAR, NEW SPONSOR, NEW TRIBUTE HELMET:
SALDANA AND MOTTER TEAM READY TO RUMBLE

VOLUSIA, Fla. (Feb. 10, 2014) – After an uncommonly cold and snowy Indiana winter, Joey Saldana is itching to get to Florida to get the racing season started.  It’s been all too long since he’s had the opportunity to exercise his throttle foot and feel the power of 900 horses propelling a 1200 pound winged Sprint Car chassis around a dirt oval.

The World of Outlaws warriors will begin their season Feb. 12-16 on the half-mile  Volusia Speedway Park oval competing in the DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.  The All-Star races Feb. 12-13 will allow the competitors to get familiar with the racing surface before three back-to-back Outlaws events in which drivers and teams begin to accumulate points toward the season’s championship.

Dan Motter, owner of the Motter Equipment HE&M Saw Beltline Body Shop 71M Sprint Car is excited about his team’s potential this year.  Finishing fourth in World of Outlaws 2013 year-end point standings, Motter says his team is prepped and ready to meet the challenge of the grueling schedule which includes more than 90 race dates.

“Our entire team remains the same for our sophomore season,” stated Motter.  “We ended the 2013 season strong.  We went through some product changes, but we’re comfortable with everything we’re using on set-ups and tune-ups.

“There is some exciting news coming out of our stable this year.  HE&M Saw has come onboard as a sponsor and Beltline Body Shop has expanded its role with our team.  These folks are more than sponsors, they are like extended family to us.

“There always seems to be a last minute push when the season starts, but our team
is very prepared and after a season of working together, communication is easier and improved.  Preparation plays a big part of success.”

Though veteran shoe Saldana drove in the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, Okla. in January,
he didn’t do his usual Sprint Car stint in Australia during the winter.

“I can’t wait to get in the 71M!  The team has been working most of the winter in Minnesota at Dan’s (Motter) shop and right before we headed to Florida, they were
decaling cars at our Indiana car.  I’m really getting amped up and excited to hit the dirt and make some laps,” said Saldana.

The Brownsburg Bullet will debut a new helmet in Volusia that pays tribute to the Ezra Brooks bourbon whiskey- sponsored car that his dad, Lil’ Joe Saldana, drove in 1972.

“The helmet I’m going to be wearing is very old school and will make Lil’ Joe proud,” said Saldana.  “Shell Shock designed and painted the helmet and I think they hit the concept out of the park.  Long-time Sprint Car fans will especially like it.  It’s a trip down Memory Lane.”

The new Motter GF1 chassis will sport the same bright yellow custom paint job that fans admired last year.  Speedway Engine Development will provide the bullets that propelled the Motter team to three track records, seven quick times, the Knoxville Nationals pole and a win at Silver Dollar Speedway last year.  PRO Shocks will be used to put the finishing touches on the set-up.

“Racing is my passion,” said Motter.  “If I didn’t think we had a really good chance of winning the championship, I wouldn’t field a car.  But I have every confidence in Joey as a driver and every member of our team.  We’re ready to drop the green flag on the season!”

Set on Winning; Jeff Swindell on Point for 2014 with Lucas Oil ASCS

TULSA, Okla. (February 10, 2014) "Win every race." Answers don't get much simpler when talking with Jeff Swindell about his goals for the 2014 Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real National Tour.

Returning to full-time competition in 2013, after taking the 2012 season off, Jeff Swindell will bring the Hammers family owned, Heartland Catfish No. 94 back in hopes of bettering his third in tour standings, in 2013.

Swindell set the season record for consecutive podium finish in 2013 and in doing so, made the largest points jump of any driver from eighth to third. Asked how often he has been able to put together a run like that, Swindell replied, "That just don't hardly ever happen, and I think that just shows what a good group we have."

Pointing out that the run didn't happen until later in the season, Swindell was still pleased with the team's performance, "We were in the learning stages last year with these guys, being the first full season with the team, the car, the motors, and everything. I think it just took us a little while to get everything figured out."

Entering the 2014 season, Swindell has made very little changes to the overall team.

"We've got all the same people together, and all the same sponsors. We added Heartland Catfish at the end of the year as an associate sponsor, and now they wanted to come on board as the main sponsor so we're really pleased with that. I plan on doing a lot of promotions with them."

Planning on racing as much as possible, Swindell has put together a schedule of roughly 80-90 shows for the 2014 season to take advantage of downtime on the ASCS National schedule that includes 410, 360, and 305cid competition.

With the Cocopah Speedway kicking off the 2014 schedule, Swindell will have an uphill climb.

"I think one of the biggest assets I've got, is I can lean on my brother Sammy a little bit," said Swindell when asked about setting up the car and the assets at his disposal.

Asked specifically about the Cocopah Speedway, where the Tennessee driver has had some good runs taken away from him by mechanical issues, Swindell replied, "I feel like I haven't been really good at Cocopah come feature time every night out, we weren't bad the first of the year, but broke a torsion arm bolt in half, so that killed us running third or fourth; then we had mechanical issues the next night. Then, at the end of the year, we were good all night until the feature. I just don't feel like I've had the car underneath me, so Sammy's given me a few little pointers on something to try, so we're going to go at it a little different and try to knock Jason [Johnson] off that podium."

Looking for a clean year of racing, Jeff is clear that he will race anyone the way he is raced. Asked about an incident during the 2013 season that resulted in damage to the No. 94, Jeff replied, "There's no reason to drive guys like that. As long as I know how I'm going to be driven, that's how I'm going to drive."

Jeff Swindell's overall season in 2013 consisted of 42 A-Feature starts. Jeff's five wins in 2013 came at the Lawton Speedway (Lawton, Okla.) on June 19, Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, Okla.) on June 20, Willamette Speedway (Lebanon, Ore.) on July 26, Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Okla.) on August 17, and Jackson Speedway (Jackson, Minn.) on August 30.

Jeff Swindell's first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win came on June 15, 2002 at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
