Winning Weekend for Roush Yates on Dirt

Mooresville, NC (April 22, 2013) Grassroots racers across the country found Victory Lane with their Roush Yates-powered engines over the weekend, capturing wins in the sprint car and USMTS modified series.

Sierra Jackson dominated the field on Saturday night with her Roush Yates Sprint 360 engine at the season-opening sprint car feature at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID. Jackson, an Idaho native, had to fight through several pre-season bugs including her wing flattening out during her heat race, but roared to the front on the final restart to win the main event.

"It took us all night to get the car right, but I really have to thank my crew," said the reigning Canadian-American Western Winged Sprintcar Series Champion in Victory Lane.

Jason Johnson won at Heart O'Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas during an emotional night on Friday as several firefighters from the West, Texas explosion were introduced on the front stretch before the race. The race was eventually red flagged to allow spectators to gather outside the track on interstate I-35 as the four firefighters who were lost in the explosion where being transported from the scene of the accident. The interstate was lit up as fans stood with flashlights, phones, and anything else to help light the way. During the intermission drivers did their part by collecting donations for the families of the fallen.

Once the race restarted Johnson continued to lead from start to finish to capture his fifth win of the season and extend his lead in the Lucas Oil ASCS Championship standings.

Jeremy Payne put on a show with his Roush Yates modified engine not too far from Kansas Speedway on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS. Payne moved into second in just three laps and took the lead on lap 8 to hold on and pick up his first USMTS Casey's Cup Series win of the season. He crossed the finish line six car-lengths ahead of defending USMTS National Champion Ryan Gustin to earn his 12th career USMTS victory.
