Allmendinger Wins First NASCAR Race at Road America

Mooresville, NC (June 24, 2013) AJ Allmendinger pulled away from Justin Allgaier during a second green-white-checker restart to earn his first career NASCAR win at Road America in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Allmendinger started from the pole position in his Roush Yates powered Penske Racing Ford Mustang and took the lead with seven laps to go in Saturday’s race. After two nerve-racking green-white-checker restarts, he held off the rest of field to earn his first win.

“Thank you Roger Penske. This means the world to me,” said an elated Allmendinger in Victory Lane. “This is the only way I can repay him for never giving up on me. I was trying to so hard out there – and, at times, probably over-trying.”

Saturday’s race was Allmendinger’s second win at the Road America. He won at the four mile road course in Central Wisconsin in 2006 racing in the Champ Car Series.

Chris Buescher used his Roush Yates powered FR9 engine to win at Road America earlier Saturday morning in the ARCA Racing Series. Buescher took advantage of a last lap bobble by Chase Ellliot to earn his tenth career win and become only the seventh driver in ARCA Racing history to win on every type of track in the ARCA Series. With Saturday’s win, Buescher has gone to Victory Lane on paved short tracks, dirt tracks, superspeedways, and road courses.

“The finish was pretty wild,” said Buescher. “I think this shows how deserving we were of our championship last year. Everybody got to racing real hard and we were able to get through there without getting involved.”

Jeremy Payne picked up two wins in as many races in the USMTS Series this weekend. Payne followed up his win on Thursday at 81 Speedway with a victory at Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday night with his Roush Yates powered Chevy. The 27-year-old from Springfield, MO started on the pole on Friday night and led every lap to bring home his fourth win in nine starts.

Payne holds the points lead in the Arbor Masters Central Region at 64 points over Jason Hughes with three events remaining.
