Rilat Claims Gold Cup Opener to Mark Fourth Straight Week with a Victory

Inside Line Promotions - EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (July 22, 2013) - For the fourth time in as many weeks Travis Rilat made a trip to Victory Lane with Richard Saumure.

Rilat claimed the opening night of the 59th annual Gold Cup at Castrol Raceway on Friday before Saturday's finale was rained out.

"My good friend Tom Lorenz always said a win's a win, no matter how many or who was there," he said. "That keeps the moral up at the 39c team."

Rilat qualified fourth quickest and found the top spot approximately four laps into his eight-lap heat race, which he started sixth. That was the trend on Friday night, when Rilat led all but those first handful of laps during his heat race.

He pulled the No. 3 in the dash draw to start on the inside of the second row, but worked his way into the lead on the opening lap. Rilat won the dash to earn the pole for the 30-lap feature.

"We couldn't get more than three laps in because of reds or cautions," he said. "They wound up shortening the race to 20 laps. I think only 12 cars finished. It got really slick and had a curb around the fence. It was like ice all the way up to the curb."

Rilat, who won the Gold Cup last year driving for Saumure, held on for a sizeable victory - his fourth in the last 10 races.

"Hopefully we can roll all the positive energy into Skagit and walk out with two big checks - one to hang on the wall and one to take to the bank," he said.

Rilat and Saumure will tackle Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., on Friday and Saturday for the Bob's Burger & Brew Summer Nationals, which are the second and third races of the four-race Summer Thunder Series. Rilat was the runner up in the opening race of the Summer Thunder Series on May 11.

Barbara Blazes to Second Place ULMS Finish at Sharon Speedway

July 23, 2013 (South Park, PA) The Forbes Field Motorsports team made the trek to Sharon Speedway over the weekend to compete with The National Dirt Racing League's United Late Model Series (ULMS) in a 30 Lap, $3,000-To-Win show.  This would mark Keith's second visit this season to the ½ mile oval in Hartford, OH where he picked up a seventh place finish back on April 20 (also a ULMS event).   The veteran driver is no stranger to the speedway or the ULMS.  In 2012, he claimed the $3,000 ULMS prize on October 6.  Entering the event, Keith's confidence was high, knowing he has fared well here in the past.  Prior to the race, he stated "Sharon is a track that has treated me well recently and we're hoping it continues.  We've had some decent finishes here and are confident that will continue."

The ULMS utilizes group time trials and Keith certainly chose the right tires for the 6 man group qualifying session, as he would complete the fastest circuit of the bunch.  Starting first in his heat would also prove advantageous, as the #17 MasterSbilt by Huey car came to the checkered flag in first place, leading each lap of the heat race and positioning himself for a 6th place start in the A-Main.

The South Park, PA native would find himself riding comfortably in the 6th slot until lap 22, when he started making his move to the front of the pack.   As the laps ticked by, he had passed his way up to third place by lap 25, when the caution flags flew.   On the restart, Keith made his way around the second place car, but there just were not enough laps left to catch the race leader.  Barbara would finish second on the night.   He said "The car was good, Lady Luck was on our side there and we avoided getting tangled up in some cautions.  We're definitely happy with the outcome tonight."

Keith would like to thank his 2013 sponsors and supporters:  Forbes Field Garage, RAN Group Racing Tours, Triangle Benefit Services, MBH - MasterSbilt by Huey, JNJ Motorsports Media , Domhoff Racing Engines, Potoka Trucking, Speed Bear Fasteners, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic, Swift Springs, Precise Racing Products, Integra Shocks by Huey, Snap-On Tools, Ryan Painting, Wal-Fab Race Car Bodies, and Frankland Rear Ends.

Anthony Sanders Set for Return to Super Late Model Competition

Spartanburg, South Carolina – After a 4 year absence from the seat of a full powered open competition engine Dirt Late Model Spartanburg, South Carolina’s Anthony Sanders is poised to make his return this Saturday night, July 27th at Modoc Raceway. Sanders will still be aboard the #421 MasterSbilt Race Car that he has been utilizing for Crate Late Model action but it will now get its power from a newly built Super Late Model engine. “My last Super race was back in 2009. I was leasing a Clements engine then to race. But at the end of the year it just wasn’t possible to continue into the next season with the Super motor. The economy slowed down and so did everything else. It just made more sense to run the crate motor races for me. But I have sure missed running the Super races. This is a great opportunity that I am getting. We will still be running some of the crate races but we are going to try to get to as many super shows as we can.” Sanders said.

Sanders return to the Super Late Model ranks comes at the behest of fellow Late Model racer Doug Sanders. Doug is also Anthony’s uncle and has been one of his biggest supporters. Anthony served as crew chief on his uncle’s cars for several years before stepping into his own car several years ago.
“Anthony really is a good wheelman. I hated to see him get out of Super Late Models. But I know how tough it is to maintain one nowadays. So when the opportunity came along for me to be able to put a Super Late Model engine together for him, I knew I needed to get it done. No disrespect at all to the guys running crate engines, but there are a lot of new comers and less experienced drivers that run those cars and that tends to lead to a lot of torn up race cars. So I am very happy to be able to get Anthony back in the Super." Doug Sanders commented.

Sanders will return to competition this Saturday night at Modoc Raceway in Modoc, South Carolina. One of Sanders’ favorite racetracks, Modoc is hosting the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series for the Jack Starrette Memorial. Starrette was a racing benefactor to many racers over the years including both Doug and Anthony. So Sanders is quite happy to make his return at this event. “Mr. Starrette was so good to us over the years. He was good to everybody really. So I am glad that everything came together when it did so we can go and participate in the race that honors him. His name was on the last Super car that I drove so it’s only appropriate that this be the race we come back out for.” Sanders added.

Sanders would like to thank all of his dedicated supporters and sponsors including Brown’s Roofing, Scraps for Us, Hamrick’s of Gaffney, Lee Whiteside’s Trucking, FK Rod Ends, Fuji Expresshuns, Parris Construction, TCM, Photos by Ali, Eagle Manufacturing, Butler Built Seating, Indocil Art, Heintz Performance, Keith’s Handyman Service, RE Suspension, Bert Transmission, Schaeffer Racing Oil, Velocita, KELCAR Motorsports Media and Big A’s Custom Graphics. Big Game Motorsports in Contention with World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series

Inside Line Promotions - WEST LEBANON, N.Y. (July 23, 2013) - Big Game Motorsports drivers Craig Dollansky and Sammy Swindell were in contention for a couple of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victories during a busy week.

The Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., kicked off the action with a doubleheader last Tuesday.

Swindell and the Big Game Treestands car qualified 12th quickest and won a heat race to advance to the dash, which he finished seventh in. That started him on the inside of the fourth row for the first of twin, 30-lap features on the heavy track.

"The first race went pretty good," said Swindell, who finished 11th. "It was a new car. We were a little bit loose with the car. We made some changes with the second (feature) and I was a little bit better."

Lead-lap drivers were inverted for the second feature, which Swindell started ninth. He rallied to reach the runner-up position and the Big Game Treestands car was in a tight battle for the lead in the closing laps.
"When I started to make my move the thing started running out of fuel," he said after placing third. "It let another car get by us so we wound up third. That was a pretty good gain for us. The car has been good these last few races."

Dollansky, who was the defending Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup overall champion, didn't have as good of a night in the Eyecon Trail Cameras car.

"Going into Silver Cup we had high hopes," he said. "It's been a good track for us. We were obviously lacking speed and qualified 29th. That put us in a hole for the whole night. I had to use a provisional to get into the main."

Dollansky charged from 25th to 17th in the first feature. After the second main event was inverted, the Eyecon Trail Cameras car lined up on the inside of the second row.

"We were hanging in there for a long time," he said. "I pulled the wing back once and then I pulled it a second time and pulled it back too far. We just pretty much struggled the entire night. It was unfortunate."
Dollansky held on for a 12th-place finish in the final feature.

After Friday's opening event for the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was cancelled because of rain, the Eyecon Trail Cameras team started Saturday on the right foot.
"Given the field of cars that were there we had a good, solid night," Dollansky said. "We got qualified well. We had a front row starting spot for the dash. In the A Main we got ourselves up to fourth and again we were running the high side. Everybody was right there in the top five or six and the bottom rubbered up and everybody had to drop to the bottom. I just rode the rest of the race in fifth place."

Dollansky's fifth-place result was his 14th top five of the season.

Swindell was doomed from the time he drew his qualifying position.

"At Williams Grove we were at a big disadvantage being the next to last one out," he said. "We made some changes and probably went the wrong way with the car for the heat. I'm not sure we ever had it exactly close. It was just a big mountain we never really overcame."

After qualifying 21st quickest and racing his way into a transfer position through the Last Chance Showdown, Swindell and the Big Game Treestands car struggled to a 26th-place finish in the feature.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway, where Dollansky qualified second quickest and Swindell third quickest.

Both drivers maneuvered from fourth to third place in their heat races and advanced to the dash, which the Big Game Treestands car placed third with the Eyecon Trail Cameras car one position behind to start the Big Game Motorsports teammates on the second row for the main event.

"Lebanon Valley was better," Swindell said. "On one restart Joey (Saldana) decided to start on the bottom. All the other races were won from the outside. He kinda bobbled and it pushed me into the bottom going into turn one. I went from running three wide for the lead to probably fifth. We finally passed Joey right before he blew his tire."

Swindell finished fifth, which was his 13th top five of the year.

Dollansky maintained a top five for most of the race before settling for an eighth-place result.

"We had a good solid night going all the way through," he said. "We got a decent start, but got put up over the cushion in turn one and lost a couple of spots. We had a fairly long green and we were riding fifth. My motor stumbled on a restart and put us in the hole even further. I'm not real happy with the result at a track that's been good to us."

Next up, Big Game Motorsports and the World of Outlaws will tackle Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., on Tuesday before a tripleheader in Canada. The Canadian swing includes a race at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, on Saturday before the second-ever visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway in Cornwall, Ontario, on Sunday. Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, wraps up the Canadian swing on Tuesday, July 30, for the Arrow Express Cup.

Dover Drives to Eighth Feature Victory of the Season at I-80 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - RISING CITY, Neb. (July 23, 2013) - For the third time this season Jack Dover claimed back-to-back victories.

After winning the 57th annual Hutchinson Grand Nationals a week ago Saturday, Dover nabbed his eighth victory of the season on Thursday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Nebraska 360 Sprints.
"It's hard to go out and win a race because everybody is so competitive these days," he said. "Having eight wins is a good feeling and I know there's more coming."

Dover maneuvered from sixth to finish second during his heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw as the highest points earner.

"The track was slick and I took my time getting through the field," he said. "I was searching, trying to find a good line. I got most of them right at the end."

Dover pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

"I didn't have a good start," he said. "Ryan (Roberts) took off and beat me into the first corner. I sailed around the top side and was able to take the lead coming out of (turn) two and never looked back. The track was really slick. The last two laps it started taking rubber up top coming out of the corner."
Dover pulled away for his second win of the season at I-80 Speedway.

On Saturday, he returned to Butler County Speedway - where he has won three main events this season - for a Nebraska 360 Sprints show.

Dover charged from fifth to win his heat race, which locked him into the dash and feature redraw. After claiming the $250-to-win dash from outside the front row, Dover started the feature fifth.

"We were up to fourth and the third lap into it the left front of my axle broke clean off," he said. "I saved it from going into the wall. I don't know how I did that. It took four laps under yellow and they went green. We didn't have the front end done so we were stuck in the pits. The leader completed a lap, but the whole field didn't cross before another caution. We kept working and I was able to make it back out.

"We came from the back up to third and then after the race everybody told me I was a lap down. They didn't black flag me. They didn't say anything on the radio. They didn't tell me when I was rolling back on the track. I wouldn't have gone out there if I had known I was a lap down. I thought I was racing for position."
Dover was scored one lap down the remainder of the race and was credited with a 15th-place finish.
He is scheduled to compete at Crawford County Speedway in Denison, Iowa, on Wednesday with the Nebraska 360 Sprints and on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Van Dam Records Pair of Seventh-Place Finishes at Cottage Grove Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23, 2013) - Henry Van Dam put together another consistent weekend under the national spotlight.

With Lucas Oil Productions television cameras taping the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday and Saturday for a delayed broadcast, Van Dam scored his third consecutive heat race win, a B Main triumph and a pair of seventh-place feature finishes.
"Definitely it was a good weekend, especially with the struggles we had Saturday night," he said. "I felt like the first night the seventh-place finish was mediocre. I was really excited at the progress we made on Saturday. To race in the top 10 with those guys is not always easy."

Van Dam opened the weekend by leading all eight laps of his heat race to claim his third straight heat win.
"It was huge for us, especially with struggling during the ASCS Northwest Region stuff," he said. "I don't think we'd won a heat race all year, maybe one. Granted we had good starting positions each night, but to get a win in front of those guys and on TV, trying to get the most exposure for our sponsors as well, is pretty big."

That earned Van Dam enough points to advance to the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 6 in the random draw to start the feature on the outside of the third row.

"We had a decent car," he said. "I got a really bad start and I think we were back to ninth or 10th within the first four or five laps. Then we settled in and picked a few cars off. I think we raced our way into the top five for a lap or so and then got caught up almost going over the edge in (turns) one and two. On that last restart Jason Johnson got us for sixth. I just didn't have the grip level we were looking for to be able to move around and pass race cars."

Van Dam missed locking himself into Saturday's feature redraw by only three positions. He returned to the quarter-mile oval the following day, which got off to a rough start.

"I had a pretty bad vibration in hot laps to the point where I could hardly hang onto the steering wheel," he said. "We didn't really find anything and then went out for the heat race. On Lap 3 the drive line finally broke out of the rear end, which ended up being the vibration. We changed everything from the motor plate to the rear end to get ready for the B Main."

Without a chance to monitor track conditions, Van Dam started the 12-lap B Main, which transferred the top six to the feature, on the outside of the sixth row.

"The car had really good grip on all four corners," he said. "We were able to move around top to bottom to get up front before it was over."

Van Dam took the lead in turns three and four coming to the white flag and pulled away for the B Main win, which transferred him into the feature. Van Dam started the 30-lap main event in 17th, but quickly headed toward the top 10.

"I followed Dustin Morgan up there and I think I passed four or five cars on the get-go," he said. "Then I picked up a few running the top. We settled in and followed them around waiting for an opportunity to pass. We had the benefit of running the B Main so we knew where the track was at and how hard to run it. That was the time we needed to make up a lot of ground quickly before people figured out where their car was working and wasn't working."

Van Dam placed seventh for the second straight night and earned the PitStopUSA.com Hard Charger Award.

Van Dam will continue with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Friday and Saturday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., where he has recorded a pair of top 10s in ASCS Northwest Region action this season.

SALDANA AND MOTTER TEAM EARN FOURTH QUICK TIME OF THE SEASON,
WIN HEAT AND OVERCOME FLAT TIRE IN FEATURE TO TAKE TOP-10 FINISH
AT ROLLING WHEELS

ELBRIDGE, N.Y. (July 23, 2013) – Joey Saldana and the Motter Equipment Fatheadz Eyewear 71M team were out to steal some thunder tonight at the World of Outlaws event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park.

And they did just that as they began the night by notching their fourth quick time of the season, turning in a No. 1 qualifying effort of 16.267 seconds.

After applying the Outlaws formula to structure heat race line-ups from the qualifying order, Saldana was assigned the fourth starting position for the first heat race. At the drop of the green, Saldana blasted past Sammy Swindell to take second place and was engaged in a battle for the lead with Jason Sides for the first half of the race.  Saldana was driving high, riding the cushion and at the halfway point, he made a solid run at Sides, running nose to tail and side by side, taking the lead and running away with a 20- car-length lead to the checkered flag.  Saldana was the only driver to win a heat from as far back as the fourth starting position

So far the stars were lining up for a good night.

After the inversion draw, Saldana was seeded in the sixth starting position for the dash.  At the unfurling of the green, the most bizarre start occurred.  Kerry Madsen took the lead, but Paul McMahan came to a stop on the track bringing out the yellow. At the same time Madsen and Jason Sides went over the banking between turns three and four.  McMahan drove back to the trailer and would not complete the dash, but Outlaws officials had to throw the red to extricate Madsen’s heavily damaged car from underneath the guardrail.  Sides actually had driven over the banking to check on Madsen. Madsen was okay. No laps were in the books.  On the restart, Saldana was now fourth on the starting grid. At the green, Chad Kemenah took the lead, with Donny Schatz second, Daryn Pittman third and Saldana fourth.  And that’s the way they rode out the six-lap dash.  Saldana would have the fourth starting position in the A-Main.

The wacky, off the wall situations continued to impact the feature.  When the green flew to signal the start of the 25-lap A-Main, Chad Kemenah took the lead but only one lap was completed before the yellow came out for an altercation between Paul McMahan and Sammy Swindell and a separate incident involving a Glen Styres spin.  Swindell suffered nose wing damage and went to the work area to make repairs. It was a shock to see fourth place runner Joey Saldana pull into the work area as well, with a flat right rear tire taking its toll on the team again this race. Saldana changed tires and joined the rear of the field. McMahan was able to get back under power.  Back to green with Kemenah leading, Pittman second, Schatz third and then another yellow before a lap could be completed for McMahan who also had a flat right rear tire and a lot of suspension damage.  McMahan was not able to return to the field before the two-minute clock ran out.

On the next restart, Pittman took the lead followed by Kemenah and Schatz. With seven laps complete the yellow was displayed for Kraig Kinser who stopped on the track after making contact with the wall earlier.  Kinser was done for the night. Another shock!
During the Kinser yellow, second place runner Kemenah pulled into the work area, done for the night.

Another restart with Pittman back in the lead.  With 13 laps complete, Saldana had advanced to 11th in the running order.  The caution came out again with three laps to go when Glenn Styres was off the pace and couldn’t get off the track and Stewart Friesman also stopped on the track.  Back to green and the battle between Pittman and Schatz continued to rage until the checkered flag, with Pittman holding on for the win to break Schatz’s three-race winning streak, Schatz second and Cody Darrah third.

Saldana was able to work his way back to 10th.

The Motter team will join the Outlaws in Quebec, Canada, Saturday, July 27 and continue to Ontario, Canada for a Sunday night event.
