Big Game Motorsports Drivers Dollansky and Swindell Each Pick Up a Victory

Inside Line Promotions - NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 2, 2013) - For the first time this season Big Game Motorsports teammates Craig Dollansky and Sammy Swindell each recorded a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature victory on the same weekend.

Dollansky secured his fifth win of the season in the Eyecon Trail Cameras car on Saturday during the 4th annual Jim "JB" Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., with Big Game Treestands sponsored Swindell earning his second win of the year on Sunday at Cedar Lake Speedway.
"It was great to see Big Game Motorsports win back-to-back races," Dollansky said. "It was a great weekend in that regard."

The weekend opened on Friday at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Ill., on a positive note for both drivers.
Dollansky overcame a 15th-place qualifying effort to finish second in his heat race, advancing to the dash. He placed eighth in that and then charged the Eyecon Trail Cameras car to a podium finish at the quarter-mile oval.

"There was a lot of caution flags," he said after finishing third. "It seemed like the longer the race went the better for us. We were coming pretty good there at the end."

Swindell qualified ninth and also placed second in his heat race to move to the dash, which he ended fourth in.

"It was going along there pretty well," he said. "I don't think we really hit the setup quite right. We were able to hold our own. We just weren't as good as we needed to be."

The Big Game Treestands car competed for a top five for the entire race before settling for a sixth-place finish.

Big Game Motorsports picked up a victory the two ensuing nights, leading with Dollansky at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday.

"It seemed like from the start of the night we were good," he said. "We got ourselves in a good spot for the feature. We kept working on things through the night. The track was in great shape. We had a race track you could run the bottom, run the top. That's some of the best racing you can get."

Dollansky qualified fifth quickest and advanced to second in his heat race to lock himself into the dash. He then piloted the Eyecon Trail Cameras car from fifth to second to start the 40-lap feature on the outside of the front row.

Dollansky took the lead for good on Lap 19 during the main event and cruised to the emotional victory, which honored a longtime family friend.

"It was a special win," he said. "Scott Boyd and the entire Boyd family have been supporters of mine for a long time. My crew chief, D.J., is Jim's son-in-law. It meant a lot."

Swindell endured one of his most frustrating nights of the season at Beaver Dam Raceway, where he qualified 12th quickest and narrowly missed advancing to the dash through his heat race by one position. He started the feature 14th and was spun by a car behind him midway through.

"I just never could get going very well there," he said after finishing 18th. "I got punted from behind by somebody. We were already having a bad race and that just made it worse."

However, it changed the following day when Swindell powered the Big Game Treestands car into Victory Lane for the first time in three months.

"It was good from when we unloaded it," he said. "We didn't make many changes. I think we found a little better solution for the setups and hopefully it carries forward for us. The little things seem to be what matter."
Swindell qualified second quickest and charged from fourth to win his heat race. That advanced him to the dash, which he finished fourth in. Swindell took the lead on a restart with eight laps remaining in the feature and drove away to the win.

"I knew timing was the biggest thing," he said of the restart. "It's so wide there. There's not much of an advantage coming off the top. It was about having the right pace and being able to accelerate at the right time. There were so many reds and yellows we never really got into traffic. It seemed like we were lapping those same three or four cars every four or five laps. It was either going to be the starts or the traffic to be the opportunity to pass."

Dollansky had the opposite night with a couple of tough breaks in the feature. He qualified 10th quickest and placed second in his heat race to advance to the dash, which he finished seventh in. However, a couple of crashes relegated the Eyecon Trail Cameras car to a 14th-place result.

"We weren't really happy with our night," he said. "Things didn't go the way we would have liked. It was just one of those nights you put behind you and roll on."

Big Game Motorsports and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series return to action on Wednesday at Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D., before a Friday and Saturday doubleheader at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., for the Boot Hill Showdown.

Rilat Records First Win of the Season to Open ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions - ELMA, Wash. (July 1, 2013) - The conditions were ripe for Travis Rilat to capture his first victory of the season and he took advantage last Friday in Richard Saumure's car.

Rilat led all 30 laps to claim the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek opener at Grays Harbor Raceway to kick off a doubleheader at the 3/8-mile oval and to start the seven-race, nine-day spectacle.

"The ingredients were all there for me to win," he said. "The track was to my liking. We drew the pole. I got through traffic well. Everything came together."

While the track was solid for the feature, it was anything but racy up to that point on both nights at Grays Harbor Raceway, Rilat said. He started on the outside of the front row and finished second in his heat race on Friday which was good enough to get him into the feature redraw.

"We were pretty lucky we were able to draw the front row of a heat race," he said. "The track was in poor condition for all of the heat races both nights. There was no track to race on during hot laps or the heat races. It was follow the leader around the bottom."

Rilat, who was the final driver of the eight competitors in the redraw that lined up the first four rows of the feature, picked the No. 1.

"I was the last one to draw and it was my lucky day," he said. "Any time we can start on the front couple of rows we should be able to win wherever we are at. We had a pretty good lead by the end of the race. Lapped traffic was pretty thick. I had several dicey moves to get through traffic."

Track conditions were similar early in the night on Saturday, when Rilat started in the final row of his heat race.

"The second night was the exact opposite," he said.

Rilat advanced from seventh to fifth on the narrow track to earn enough points to advance to the feature, which he started on the inside of the seventh row.

"Starting 13th is a bit of a struggle," he said. "I was running ninth and made a move coming off (turn) four down the straightaway. I passed four cars going into turn one. The car in front of me checked up and I was going to hit him head on. I was trying to avoid that and clipped his right rear tire. If I had another two inches I would have been good."

The contact around Lap 11 sent Rilat up the track toward the wall and he stopped to avoid the crash. Rilat was forced to restart at the back and maneuvered to a ninth-place finish, which was his 11th top 10 this season.

"If we hadn't had that incident I feel like we could have been up front," he said.

Rilat will continue the ASCS Northwest Region Speedweek with five races throughout Oregon this week. Southern Oregon Speedway in White City hosts a race on Monday with Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay having a show on Tuesday. Speedweek will compete at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon on Wednesday before a Friday and Saturday doubleheader at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove.

Hunt wraps up USMTS Southern Speedweek on high note, locked in for USMTS  championship chase

KEARNEY, Mo. (July 2) — The most grueling stretch of races for the 2013 United States Modified Touring Series campaign wrapped up Saturday night for Trevor Hunt and the #99h Trevor Hunt Racing/FVP/Eibach Springs GRT Chassis, completing nine USMTS events at nine different racetracks over the course of ten days.

With huge fields of cars and some of the best in the business behind the wheel of each one, the competition level was as hot as the sun which provided temperatures over 100 degrees for most of the week.

Things got started last Thursday, June 20, at the 81 Speedway near Wichita, Kan., where mechanical failure left Hunt with a 25th-place after starting 19th on the grid.

The following night took the team to the Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway in Liberal, Kan., and they walked out with heads held high after recording a top-10 finish after starting the main event from the 17th spot.

Saturday’s show at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, was in front of a huge crowd and Hunt once again marched past seven drivers en route to a 19th-place finish.

Hunt and his team rolled into the Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Okla., with a lot of confidence, but the next five nights proved to be the biggest test of the 14-year-old so far in his career.

Fighting an “evil car” that handled poorly all night, Hunt was unable to transfer out of the “B” Main Tuesday night at the super-fast Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

The same held true for the next three nights, including Thursday at the Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, where he missed a provisional starting spot by a single point in the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region standings.

It was a frustrating five nights of racing for Hunt his crew, but they soldiered on to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., for the final night of Southern Speedweek and final event in the regional points race.

They say that good things come to those who wait, and that was verified Saturday night, June 29. After qualifying fourth-fastest in his heat race group, Hunt led from start to finish in his Heat Race and held off the hottest driver on the USMTS circuit, Johnny Scott, in doing so.

The main event saw a half-dozen cautions, but Hunt avoided the trouble most others could not and ended the week with a 13-place finish at the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Hunt finished out the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region ranked 14 in the final points but, more importantly, punched his ticket to be a part of The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup which begins in August.

He also continues to show the way in the USMTS Rookie of the Year points standings with a 27-point advantage over Joey Galloway.

Hunt and the #99h Trevor Hunt Racing/FVP/Eibach Springs GRT Chassis powered by Yeoman Race Engines will head home to regroup, refocus and reload as they get ready for some big USMTS events to close out the month of July.

In the meantime, they will likely stop in at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., this Friday, July 5, and the following Friday to compete in the USRA Modified program and pick up some seat time at the track that will host five more nights of USMTS racing this year.

Trevor Hunt Racing is made possible by support from FVP, Eibach Springs, iXL Elite Hydration, DJ Safety, Racegator Transmissions, AERO Race Wheels, Yeoman Race Engines, Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, GRT Race Cars, Grass Roots Racing Show and Rod End Supply.

Dover Overcomes One of His Most Challenging Weeks with Two Top 10s

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (July 2, 2013) - Jack Dover is the first to admit that last week was one of the most challenging weeks he has ever had.

"Last week was probably my worst week of screw-ups on my part," he said. "Hopefully I got them all out of the way last week."

It started on Wednesday during the Spring Sprint Car Nationals at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., where Dover advanced from fifth to fourth place in his heat race.

"Wednesday night the top four were supposed to weigh and I forgot to weigh," he said. "That was totally my screw-up. I take total responsibility for that."

Dover was disqualified and forced to start last in the B Main. He charged to place fifth - one spot out of transferring to the $7,500-to-win feature.

The team had a change of plans and headed to the 2nd annual Open Wheel Nationals on Friday and Saturday at St. Croix Valley Raceway in St. Croix Falls, Wis. It was Dover's first time at the track and the furthest North he has ever competed, he said.

The two-day event centering on points kicked off with Dover maneuvered from sixth to second in his heat race. That started him ninth in a challenge race, which ended on the opening lap.

"A guy in the second row spun out and took about seven of us cars out," Dover said after finishing 12th. "That's when my chassis got bent. We don't have a backup car. We started building it so we could start the A Main and get our start money. An official came over and said tonight is our lucky night because they had a curfew and we were going to run the next day. That gave us time to get the chassis welded."
With Friday's main event being postponed until Saturday, Dover was able to have his chassis put back together to continue the event. While he raced in the remainder of the Open Wheel Nationals, his car wasn't quite right.

"We were fighting the car from the middle of the corner," he said. "It didn't have any forward bite. That's where we'd get beat. We'd make it all up on straightaways and entering the corners. I drove a lot harder."
Having been bitten by a 1,550-pound weight rule earlier this season, Dover weighed the car that afternoon to make sure it would clear the scales for the special weight rule during the Open Wheel Nationals.
"We weighed ourselves early in the day and that was without all of my gear and we were exactly 100 pounds heavy," he said. "I was 1,650. That was about halfway full of fuel."

Dover rallied from 14th to third in the postponed feature, which would have locked him into the dash and the first three rows of the $5,000-to-win main event on Saturday night. However, he was 15 pounds light at the scales and was disqualifying, relegating him to a 20th-place finish.

"I knew I was running out of fuel in the final couple of laps and it'd be close of weight," he said. "I was light by 15 pounds - a difference of two and a half gallons (of fuel). That really put us behind because this whole weekend was based off points."

Dover started Saturday's program by winning his heat race and charging from eighth to second during the last chance race, transferring him to the feature. He started 14th, but quickly worked toward the top five.
"We got up to seventh in the first two laps," he said. "I think we had a pretty good car, but it wasn't the best. I got myself up to second and on the restart with five to go I had a great restart. I actually bumped the leader and when I bumped him I think I made him mad. I'm not sure if he got on the brakes or let off the gas, but he slowed down big time. I didn't have time to react.

"I was going to follow him close in and then I was going to slide him in (turns) three and four, but all that happened going into turn one."

The top four drivers checked up and contact nearly spun each of those cars during that restart, which dropped Dover to a fourth-place finish. It marked his 10th top five of the season.

He capped the weekend on Sunday at Huset's Speedway by driving for Denny Wasmund, a family friend. Dover won his heat race from outside the front row and then advanced from ninth to sixth in a wild feature.
"I ran fourth or fifth the whole time," he said. "We spun out in the middle of turns one and two, and I lost one spot but got it back with two laps to go. The car was working great. The race just went by so fast. We didn't really get into lapped traffic. On the last corner Robby Wolfgang got in some oil and spun out, and I stopped to avoid crashing into him."

Dover has another busy weekend scheduled, starting on Friday at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He will compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D., on Saturday before returning to Wasmund's car on Sunday at Huset's Speedway. Dover will also race on Monday at Boone County Fair at Albion Speedway in Albion, Neb., with the Nebraska 360 Sprints.
