Jason Hughes Banks First Win of 2013; USMTS Four Shot Next

Westville, Oklahoma (5/21/13) – The past few months have been a challenge for Jason Hughes and Hughes Motorsports as they've battled mechanical issues and overall bad luck, but on Saturday night at West Plains Motor Speedway (West Plains, Missouri) they put that all behind them as Jason charged to his first victory of the 2013 season #12 West Siloam Pawn/Gressel Racing/Hughes/Mullins Race Engines Open Wheel Modified!

Jason Hughes made the trek to La Raceway (LaMonte, Missouri) on Friday evening for the first leg of an USMTS Open Wheel Modified doubleheader in the Show-Me state. Thirty competitors registered for battle in the event, and Hughes started his night by winning the third heat race from the second starting spot to lock into the redraw for the feature, where he was the recipient of the eighth starting spot for the 40 lap finale. Hughes had high hopes for the main event, but would ultimately battle the handle to an eighth place finish in the final rundown.

On Saturday evening Thirty-four competitors converged on the 3/8 mile oval at West Plains Motor Speedway (West Plains, Missouri), and Jason started his night by winning his heat race to lock into the redraw for the $4,000-to-win finale. While fellow front row starter, Jeremy Payne, led the first nine circuits Hughes took over the top spot on lap 10 and never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Payne, Rodney Sanders, Ryan Gustin, and Kelly Shryock.

"It feels great to get this first win out of the way, especially after all the bad luck we've had so far this year," Hughes noted. "Hopefully this is the first of many to come for the rest of the year, and I can't thank all of my sponsors, crew, and fans for their support!"

Hughes Race Cars continues to hold a dominating lead in the Tiger Rear Ends Manufacturers Championship standings.

Ross Camponovo Claims Biggest Win of Career; Columbus Next

Clarksdale, Mississippi (05/21/13) – Ross Camponovo has had a career season so far in 2013, and on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) he achieved another first as he powered his #18 Camponovo Farms/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/RPM Racing Engine Super Late Model to the biggest win of his young career.

One week after scoring his first win of the season in the Crate Late Model class at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) Ross Camponovo raced to the biggest Super Late Model win of his career with a $2,500 triumph in Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) action at the 1/4 mile oval.

Twenty-three entries were on hand for the MSCCS event, and after setting fast time in his group in qualifications Camponovo earned a spot in the pole-sitter's dash. He stormed to the dash win to earn the pole for the feature with Bub McCool starting to his outside. The feature started on a sour note for Ross though as he jumped the initial start, which pushed him back to the third starting spot. Despite being moved back a row he quickly worked his way to the lead on the second lap, and fought off several advances from McCool to register his first Super Late Model win of the 2013 campaign and the biggest of his career. McCool, Doug Showah, Rick Rickman, and Ashley Newman rounded out the top five finishers.

"We've been close to winning one of these special events, but something crazy always seems to happen late in the race or I just make a mistake. Tonight that didn't happen," an elated Camponovo commented. "I have to thank my crew and all of my sponsors for everything they do for me."
Full results from the event are available at www.StateSeries.com .

Ross will carry his momentum into this Saturday's $2,500-to-win program at Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi), which will be sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS). Eric Cooley Wins Double Features at Columbus Speedway

Fulton, MS (05/21/13) – After a slow start to the year Eric Cooley was able to kick things up a notch on Saturday night as he scored a pair of feature wins in his Bryson Motorsports entries at Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi).

The Super Late Model division found Cooley registering the fastest time around the 1/3 mile oval in his #33b Bryson Motorsports/Barry Wright/Jeff Burns Racing Engine Super Late Model to earn the pole position for the feature.  He ran second during the opening laps before jumping to the lead on lap 7.  Once out front he never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Jamie Tollison, Randy Body Thompson, Jason Brock, and Jeff White.

In the Late Model Stock/Crate Late Model Cooley started the night by advancing from the third position in his heat race to a second place finish to lock into the third starting spot for the feature in his #33b Bryson Motorsports/Victory Circle by Moyer entry.  Early in the main event he bided his time before using the cushion on lap 8 to jump to a lead that he would never relinquish.  Jeff Holloway, Hunter Carroll, Shay Knight, and Johnny Smith rounded out the top five.

"Our cars have been good all year, but we've just had some bad luck," said Cooley.  "I knew if we could just catch a break or two that we would find our way to victory lane, and that's just what we were able to do on Saturday night."

Full results from both divisions are available at www.ColumbusSpeedway.net.

Cooley is still trying to decide on where he will race on Saturday as he will either enter the $2,500-to-win, Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) Super Late Model event at Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) or a $2,000-to-win, NeSmith Late Model Series event at Whynot Motorsports Park (Whynot, Mississippi).  On Sunday evening he will pull double duty at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) in the NeSmith Late Model Series and Super Late Model divisions.
