Jason Hughes Races to Hunt Win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway

Westville, Oklahoma (8/21/13) – Jason Hughes continued his winning ways over the weekend in his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Hughes Race Car/Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified with a $5,000 win at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin).

Another week of the Hunt for the Casey's Cup began on Wednesday night at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin) as 42 entries looked to take a stab at the $3,000 winner's check. Jason began his night by winning his heat race from the 5th starting spot, which made him the top point's earner in heat race action. In the redraw for the feature he was the recipient of the 5th starting spot. In the feature he was only able to advance a single position to a 4th place finish behind race winner, Johnny Scott, Dereck Ramirez, and Trent Follmer.

Rice Lake Speedway (Rice Lake, Wisconsin) was the destination for the team on Thursday night, where a $3,000-to-win program was held. A big number at the pill draw left Jason starting 8th in his heat race. He would go on to advance to a 5th place finish, which sent him to a b-main. In the b-main he finished 2nd to earn the 16th starting spot for the 40 lap finale. In the feature he would go on to advance to an 8th place finish.

Friday night would prove to be the scene of Jason's seventh win of the 2013 season as he conquered a $5,000-to-win program at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin). Thirty-six entries took to the racy oval for the USMTS program, and a 6th to 2nd run in his heat race sent Hughes to the redraw for the feature, where he received the 6th starting spot. Early in the feature Jason worked his way into the third spot as he began to battle with Stormy Scott for the runner-up position. Hughes would search for different lines around the 3/8 mile oval, and with just four laps remaining he found a new line and was able to use lapped traffic to his advantage as he rocketed into the lead. Once out front he never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Rodney Sanders, Stormy Scott, Craig Thatcher, and Lucas Schott.

On the heels of his win Jason rolled into Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota) on Saturday evening for a $3,000-to-win go with the USMTS. Thirty-three entries were on hand for the race, and Hughes would fall just short of locking into the feature via heat race action, but a win in his b-main positioned him starting 13th on the grid for the 40 lap finale. Despite starting deep in the pack he mounted a strong charge forward to record a 2nd place finish behind race winner, Jason Krohn.

The insanely busy, five-day stretch drew to a close on Sunday evening at Granite City Speedway (Sauk Rapids, Minnesota) with a $5,000-to-win race. Thirty-entries converged on the oval for the program, and via heat race action Hughes locked into the 10th starting spot for the 40 lap finale. He would fail to advance many positions during the feature as he crossed the finish line in the 9th position.

Jason is third in the latest Hunt for the Casey's Cup standings. Full results from the events as well as the latest standings are available at www.USMTS.com .

Jason Hughes now looks ahead to a triple header of action in the Hunt for the Casey's Cup with the USMTS. His schedule is shown below:

August 23rd - USMTS: Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, KS)
August 24th - USMTS: Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, OK)

Consistent Weekend in Wolverine State Keeps Richards in Charge of World of Outlaws Late Model Series Points Battle

SHINNSTON, WV - Aug. 21, 2013 - Josh Richards continued his laser-focused pursuit of the 2013 World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship with a steady-as-she-goes weekend of action in the Wolverine State.

With a second-place on Aug. 16 at Winston Speedway in Montague, Mich., and a sixth-place run on Aug. 17 at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Mich., Richards not only registered the best combined finishes in the doubleheader but also extended his WoO LMS points lead.

"We had a good weekend," said Richards, who is chasing his third career World of Outlaws title. "If we had done a couple things differently I think we could have had a shot to win both races, but we'll take it. This is such a competitive sport that you can't be off even a little bit and we just didn't quite hit it right both nights."

Richards, 25, of Shinnston, W.Va., had his best performance in last Friday night's NAPA Auto Parts Winston 50 Presented by Keyser Manufacturing. He moved up quickly from the fifth starting spot to second place in his Valvoline-sponsored Mark Richards Racing Enterprises Rocket No. 1 and finished there, vainly chasing home-state winner Jeep VanWormer to the checkered flag.

"He was good," Richards said of VanWormer. "On that (lap-16) restart we fired off that middle (groove) real well and stayed with him for a few laps. I couldn't keep running there, though. Me and (third-place finisher Rick) Eckert were talking after the race about how you could run four or five laps good there, and then the tires would get greasy and you couldn't move around as much.

"Jeep was really good on the long greens. His car was just rolling through the corners so well."

On Saturday night at Merritt, Richards started and finished sixth. He ran in the top five early in the race, but three caution flags between laps 35 and 41 slowed his progress and left him with a finish just outside the top five.

"I did not need a caution," Richards said of his Merritt outing. "We had a harder tire - and ours wasn't even hardly grooved or siped - so we were going for longevity thinking we were gonna have a lot of tire wear. But after the first couple laps I knew we were in trouble because all the cars in front of us had softer tires or tires that were cut up more than ours.

"After the cautions, I was just trying to make my car wide and hold everybody off. We just didn't have the right tires for the way the track changed."

The pair of solid runs gave Richards 23 top-five and 32 top-10 finishes in 36 WoO LMS A-Mains this season. He leads the tour in top-fives and is tied with Shane Clanton for the most top-10s.

Richards ended the weekend leading the WoO LMS points standings by 62 points over Clanton and 68 points over Darrell Lanigan. He entered the twin bill leading Clanton by 48 points and Lanigan by 64 markers.

The weekend in Michigan came one week after Richards traveled to the state's Upper Peninsula for a short vacation with his girlfriend Andrea Cleveland. During the couple's trip Richards proposed to Cleveland, who happily accepted. Richards and Cleveland have not seat a wedding date but plan to marry sometime next year.

Next up on Richards's agenda are WoO LMS events on Thursday night (Aug. 22) at Little Valley (N.Y.) Speedway and Saturday evening (Aug. 24) at Winchester (Va.) Speedway.

Jeff Taylor Tames Batesville for Sixth Win of 2013

Cave City, Arkansas (08/21/13) - Jeff Taylor piloted his #5 Jeff Taylor Racing/Industrial Electric/Provence Construction/New Vision Graphics/Taylor Chassis/Mullins Race Engines entry in the Open Wheel Modified portion of the 21st Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 over the weekend at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas).

On Friday night a strong field of 24 competitors took to the 3/8 mile oval in pursuit of the $900 top prize. Heat race action found Jeff advancing from the 5th starting spot to a 2nd place finish, which locked him into the 4th starting spot for the feature. During the first half of the feature Taylor worked his way into the 2nd spot and began to challenge Richie Tosh for the lead. With just six laps remaining Taylor used a strong run on the low side to take over the top spot, and went on to lead the closing laps to score his 6th win of the 2013 season! Tosh, Tyson Franks, Brandon Smith, and Lucas Lee rounded out the top five finishers.

Saturday's program would get delayed until Sunday by rain, and with a condensed program being contested the line up for the 20 lap feature was determined by the pill draw, and Jeff's draw left him starting 11th in the feature. The fourth lap of the feature found him slowing with apparent mechanical issues. However, he was able to rejoin the tail of the field, and over the remainder of the event he rebounded to finish 4th behind race winner, Tyson Franks, Jared Landers, and Brian Ritchie.
Full results from the events are available at www.BatesvilleMotorSpeedway.net .

The team's next scheduled event is the 31st Annual IMCA Super Nationals at Boone Speedway (Boone, Iowa) on September 3rd-7th. Jeff won the mega-event in 2012 and will look to repeat in this year's event that will once again draw many of the best competitors in the nation.
