Dillon Wood Takes Two Wins Over Memorial Day Slate

Daytona Beach, Florida (05/29/13) – Dillon Wood was behind the wheel of his #1w Keyser Manufacturing/Gotta Race/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine/ Super Late Model over the weekend as he enjoyed a career outing with two wins to go with a pair of top ten finishes.

The weekend opened for Dillon on Friday night in the $4,000-to-win finale for the Spring Nationals Late Model Series at Boyds Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). Thirty-six competitors converged on the 1/4 mile, bullring for the program, and time trials locked him into the seventh starting spot for the 40 lap finale. He raced in the top ten for the duration of the event before recording a tenth place finish at the checkered flag. Full results from the event are available at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com .

On Saturday night the action shifted to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for an Ultimate Super Late Model Series event, and when the final checkered flag had dropped on the program he had claimed his first victory of the 2013 season. Thirty Super Late Models entered the program, and he started the night by blazing to fast time honors with a 15.192 second lap around the 1/2 mile oval to lock into the pole position for the feature. He snagged the lead at the drop of the green flag, and went on to lead the entire race to register the victory over Billy Ogle Jr., Ray Cook, Chris Ferguson, and Casey Roberts. Full results from the event are available at www.UltimateSupers.com .

Sunday evening took the team to Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia) for a $2,000-to-win program, where Wood earned the fourteenth starting spot for the feature before registering a fifth place finish at the checkered flag.

Monday night found the team entering their fourth event of the weekend with a $3,000-to-win race at Tri County Race Track (Brasstown, North Carolina), and by the time the event was over, Dillon had scored his second win of the weekend. After recording the second fastest lap of the night in qualifications Wood started second in the feature alongside Casey Roberts. Dillon led the first two laps before Roberts took over the lead. Lap 30 found Wood retaking the lead when Roberts jumped the cushion, and Dillon went on to lead the final ten laps to score the win! Chip Brindle, David Payne, Johnny Chastain, and George Mashburn rounded out the top five finishers. Full results are available at www.TriCountyRaceTrack.com .

“Mark and Josh Richards (at Rocket Chassis) have really helped me a lot,” Wood said. “Also, Gary Winger with the (Integra) shocks and Scott Keyser with Keyser Manufacturing and my dad and Derry Gahring. All those people really make it happen for me. Even Gerald at Gotta Race in Arizona. You have to have a good team and I have a good team.”

The team doesn't plan to compete anywhere this weekend, but will return to action on Saturday, July 8th with a $4,000-to-win, Ultimate Super Late Model Series event at Toccoa Speedway (Toccoa, Georgia). Full results from the event are available at www.UltimateSupers.com .

Clay Fisher Snares Biggest Career Win with Columbus Triumph

Dewitt, Arkansas (05/29/13) - Clay Fisher had a busy Memorial Day weekend in his #99 Moon's Towing & Recovery/Mastersbilt/Kuntz & Co. Racing Engine Super Late Model, and along the way he recorded the biggest win of his young career.

On Saturday evening the team traveled to "The Baddest Bullring in the South" Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for a $2,500-to-win program that was sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS).  Twenty entries were on hand, and after winning his qualifier he started tenth on the grid for the 50 lap finale.  As the race went green he began working his way forward through the field, and by the time the white flag flew he was in the second spot.  It appeared that he would be on his way to a runner-up finish, but the leader, Chris Wall, encountered trouble with a lapped car, which allowed Fisher to slip past to take the lead and the win, which was the first of the year and the biggest of his career!  Wall, Chad Thrash, Eric Cooley, and Neil Baggett rounded out the top five finishers.

"The bad luck that we've had over the past few years has been pretty rough, but my crew and sponsors have stood behind me, so this win tonight is for them," commented an elated Fisher in victory lane.
Full results are available at www.StateSeries.com .

The team concluded the weekend on Sunday evening at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) with a Weekly Racing Series Event at the 3/8 mile oval.  Twenty-seven Super Late Models entered the program, and Clay raced to a fourth place finish behind race winner, Eric Cooley, Rick Rickman, and Mike Boland. Full results from the program are available at www.MagnoliaDirt.com .

This Saturday, June 1st Clay will travel to Diamond Park Speedway (Nashville, Arkansas) for a $2,000-to-win, COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model event.  Fisher is currently ninth in the latest series' standings.  For more information on the event please visit www.COMPDirt.com .

NOSTALGIC WEEKEND AHEAD FOR JOEY SALDANA

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (May 28, 2013) – The Motter Equipment Fatheadz Eyewear 71M team owned by Dan Motter is centrally based in Brownsburg, Ind., and its home base during the racing season has been driver Joey Saldana’s shop.

In a grueling 90-race season, World of Outlaws competitor Saldana relishes the races that are closer to home.

On Friday, May 31, the STP Sprint Car Series will stage a one night stand at Attica Raceway Park in Ohio, and Saturday the Outlaws teams will be tearing it up at the NAPA Auto Parts Rumble in Michigan at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa.  Saldana has been victorious at both tracks.

Saldana won on the 1/3-mile at Attica in 2007, but I-96 conjures up special memories because it’s the track where he recorded his first career World of Outlaws victory in 1995.

“We only race once in Michigan, and for me I-96 is the track that really jump started my career since we got our first Outlaws win there.

“We’ve gone through a bit of a rough patch these last couple of races,” said Saldana.
“Our team is much better than the results show and we’ve actually gained a lot of knowledge working with the folks at Penske Shocks who have lent their engineering support.

“I think you’ll see this team rebound right away.  We have a car with speed and a team that knows the road to success. We are optimistic and the adrenaline starts to rush every time we pull into the pit area at a race track.  We have the desire and the experience and we’re hungry for a win.

“We’re looking to turn our luck around in Attica and maybe show some of that NAPA Know How in Lake Odessa.”

Big Game Motorsports Teammates Battle Through a Variety of Issues During Busy Week

Inside Line Promotions - LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 28, 2013) - The last week has been a busy one for the Big Game Motorsports teams.

With four World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series races in four states during an eight-day span, the Eyecon Trail Cameras car of Craig Dollansky and Big Game Treestands backed Sammy Swindell had mixed results.

Qualifying was a tale of two different sides as Dollansky struggled during time trials and Swindell excelled. Dollansky's average qualifying position was approximately 15th quickest, while Swindell's was fifth quickest.
"Qualifying is very critical," Dollansky said. "That's something we're working on. I think we're moving in the right direction, but it's still a work in progress for us."

On Monday, May 20, Dollansky qualified 15th quickest at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y. He locked the Eyecon Trail Cameras sprint car into the feature through his heat race, but finished the main event 18th.

Meanwhile, Swindell timed in ninth quickest, won his heat race and placed 10th in the feature.
"A lot of things are kinda coming together," he said. "We've made a lot of headway on a lot of things. We're definitely getting closer to where we need to be."

Both cars were in contention the following night at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., where Dollansky qualified 16th quickest and Swindell sixth fast. The Big Game Motorsports teammates both finished in the top two of their heat races to advance to the dash, which Swindell won to garner the pole for the feature.

While the Eyecon Trail Cameras car spent much of the race battling inside the top 10, Swindell led the first five laps before being doomed by traffic.

"I came up to a lapped car and they were running the bottom," Swindell said. "The guy was sticking to the rail and I went to go around him. He slid out and it pushed me wide. It just left the door open for (Daryn) Pittman. After that there wasn't much of an opportunity."

Swindell finished in the runner-up position and Dollansky ended ninth - his 14th top 10 of the season.
The teams hauled to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for an event on Friday, when Swindell qualified third quickest and Dollansky 25 th overall.

The Big Game Treestands car moved from fourth to second in the heat race to advance to the dash, while the Eyecon Trail Cameras car finished eighth in his heat. He was relegated to the Last Chance Showdown, where Dollansky was unable to earn a transfer. He then used his second provisional of the season to start the feature in last place.

Swindell again worked from fourth to second in the dash to start the main event on the outside of the front row. However, right before the feature began track officials reworked the surface.

While Dollansky maneuvered from 25th to finish 16th, Swindell faded with the wrong setup for the track conditions before he was eventually caught up in a crash.

"We set our car up to run the top of the track, which is where we'd been all night," he said after placing 22nd. "So we figured that was the place to be. It was a big change that we needed for the setup. We weren't told of anything and we were stuck with the complete wrong setup."

The eventful week of racing concluded on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Swindell qualified second quickest and Dollansky fifth quickest. Both drivers advanced to the feature, with Swindell battling into a top-five finish with a damaged nose wing and the Eyecon Trail Cameras car sustaining a flat right rear tire while running in the top 10.

Dollansky's team changed the tire and after restarting in the back of the field, he worked his way to an 11th-place finish.

"I was very encouraged with last night," Dollansky said. "We made some gains and made some progress. Unfortunately in the feature we cut a tire down. Had that not happened we would have been in the top five."
Swindell is fourth in the championship points standings and Dollansky is sixth - only 27 points out of the top five.

The Big Game Motorsports teams and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series return to action on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Saturday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown.

Almost-Perfect Memorial Day Weekend for Richards Features his First-Ever Victory in West Virginia and Two Runner-up Finishes

SHINNSTON, W. Va. - May 28, 2013 - Josh Richards enjoyed an almost-perfect Memorial Day weekend of action on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

With a dramatic victory on Saturday night at Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, W.Va., sandwiched by runner-up finishes on Friday evening at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, and Sunday night at Tyler County, the holiday triple header was extremely satisfying for the 25-year-old from Shinnston, W. Va.

"I guess anytime you're in contention for a win and don't get it, you're frustrated - and that happened to us twice," Richards said of his weekend performance. "But it was still a great weekend for us. A win and two second-place finishes - it's hard to have a weekend any better than that. We were in contention to win every race and just came up short in two of them - we'll take it."

After kicking off the swing with a solid second-place run behind first-time WoO LMS winner Dave Hess Jr. in Friday night's Buckeye 50 at Wayne County, the highlight of Richards' weekend came with his triumph in Saturday night's 30-lap A-Main that kicked off the two-day Jackpot 100 Presented by NAPA at the quarter-mile Tyler County oval. He recorded his long-awaited first-ever victory in his home state in truly memorable fashion, sliding his Valvoline-sponsored Mark Richards Racing Enterprises Rocket Chassis No. 1 underneath Tim Fuller for the lead exiting turn four with the checkered flag flying.

Richards beat Fuller to the finish line by a slim margin of 0.154 of a second for a win worth $6,150. It was his third WoO LMS victory of 2013 but first since Feb. 17 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.

"If we could have stayed away from lapped traffic he would have won," Richards said of Fuller. "He was out in clean track and he could pick some speed up, so it was hard to gain any ground. I just kept watching the lapped cars and watching the dirt off their tires and tried to stay low.

"Once we got a run there (on the last lap) I just had to go for it. I tried to do it one last corner and it finally worked out."

Richards was smiling after finally reaching Victory Lane in the Mountaineer State, where he's actually raced only sparingly during a 10-year dirt Late Model career focused on national events.

"It's cool to finally get one in front of the home crowd," said Richards, who registered his sixth overall victory of the 2013 season. "It's been pretty hard to do. I think we counted up - in 10 years we only raced in the state seven or eight times."

Richards appeared primed to sweep the Jackpot 100 by NAPA weekend on Sunday night after he ripped off the evening's quickest lap in qualifying at 12.620 seconds (his series-leading fourth fast-time award of 2013), won a 10-lap heat race and drew the pole position for the 70-lap, $15,000-to-win A-Main. He fell just short of the win, finishing a close second in the weekend's finale to Darrell Lanigan.

There's no doubt that Richards gave it his all in pursuit of the big-money win at Tyler County. Though he didn't lead a lap, he found himself in second place behind Lanigan on lap 41 after Fuller relinquished the lead due to a flat tire and he spent the remainder of the distance challenging Lanigan relentlessly.

"I think we were better than (Lanigan) was, and I was just kind of riding for a little bit trying to make something happen," said Richards. "Once I found my sweet spot and ran a little bit wider I could run up over top of him, but there just wasn't anywhere to go.

"I'd get a run off the corner and then he'd back out to the outside wall, and that would kind of block my entry back into one. But he did what he had to do. He did a great job. I'm just more frustrated at myself than anything. Actually, I thought we had more laps left. It just kind of shocked me when I saw the white (flag)."

The three podium finishes were very important in another respect: they helped Richards extend his lead in the WoO LMS points standings to a season-high 48 points over Shane Clanton. He will attempt to add even more to his edge this weekend when he enters World of Outlaws events on Thurs., May 30, at Delaware International Speedway in Delmar and Sat., June 1, at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y.
