Riley Hickman Streaks to Eighth Win of 2014; Holiday Weekend Slate Next

Cleveland, Tennessee (07/02/14) – Riley Hickman raced to his eighth win of the season over the weekend with a triumph in his #R1 BIF Motorsports/Hickman Manufacturing Company/CVR  Late Model at Boyds Speedway.

Riley Hickman was back to his winning ways on Saturday evening, as the team entered a Weekly Racing Steel Head Late Model event at Boyd's Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia).  Hickman started fourth in the main event and quickly worked his way to the lead before fending off the competition to find his way to victory lane.  Bryan Pritchard finished second followed by Blake Armitage, James Perry, and Justin Litchford rounding out the top five finishers.  Full results from the event are available at www.BoydsSpeedway.net .

"We've battled some pretty crazy, bad luck over the past month, so it felt real good to park it in victory lane again," said Hickman.  "Our results haven't been reflecting how good we've been.  Hopefully this will help us get everything pointed in the right direction again."

Riley plans to capitalize on the holiday weekend to enter a pair of Super Late Model specials in the southeast.  Action opens on Thursday at Winchester Speedway (Winchester, Tennessee) with the $3,000-to-win, Freedom 40 before moving to Fort Payne Motor Speedway (Fort Payne, Alabama) which will post a $3,000 winner's check in the Firecracker 40.  For more information on the events please visit www.WinchesterSpeedway.net and www.FortPayneMotorSpeedway.com .

Reutzel Racks Up Sixth Win of the Year!

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (July 1, 2014) – A first time visit to Wichita’s 81 Speedway on Sunday night wasn’t in the original weekend game plan for Aaron Reutzel.

But, when Saturday night’s Twin Features for 360’s at Knoxville Raceway was washed out, plans changed for Reutzel and the Bob and Christie Miller’s Car Parts Machine/Wren Motorsports No. 87 Triple-X team.
“We needed a paycheck,” Reutzel quipped about the decision to take in Sunday night’s NCRA vs. ASCS Sooner Region tilt atop the 3/8-mile 81 Speedway oval near Wichita, KS.

A paycheck is what Reutzel and crew member Ryan Beechler came away with, as Reutzel dominated the field to post his sixth overall feature win of the year, this one worth $2,000.

While Reutzel led every lap in his first visit to the long-standing traditional NCRA venue, it started out in questionable fashion.

“We only got one hot lap in if you could even call it that, so I’m not real sure what to expect,” Reutzel commented before his heat race.

The answer came quickly.  Gridding the Momentum Racing Suspensions/Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine outside row two of the night’s first heat race, Reutzel stuck to the top side of the track and swooped past front row starters Jake Martens and Josh Baughman in the opening pair of corners en route to winning the 10-lap heat race and earning enough points in the process to earn the pole starting position for the 30-lap feature event.

Reutzel gunned into the lead at the outset of the feature event and had the race well in command throughout despite several close calls with the wall exiting turn two.

“We were a little soft on the right rear, I nearly got into it several times,” Reutzel explained.
Reutzel kept it at ‘close-calls’ only and maintained command, weathering just one caution after 20 laps as he was lapping well into the top ten.

Reaching traffic again in just five laps, Reutzel still went on to his sixth win of the year without challenge aboard the Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/BC Fundz/Wright Way Logistics entry.  It was also his 19th top-five and 27th top-ten finish of the year.

“The car was great, I can’t say enough about this team with Ryan (Beechler) working on the car and all the help from Bob and Christie Miller and everyone else involved,” Reutzel said in victory lane.

“It’s been a great year so far, but we were really needing a win right now.  It’s nice to get back in victory lane, maybe we can get a few more now,” Reutzel concluded.

The Clute, TX, racer gets four more opportunities to add to the win column this weekend with ASCS Warrior Region events in the “Show-Me State” of Missouri.  Events at Double X Speedway in California, MO, where Reutzel posted a recent third place finish, on Thursday and Sunday bookend a Friday card at Fulton’s Callaway Raceway and Saturday action at Moberly’s Randolph County Raceway.

2014 Quick Stats:  34 races, 6 wins, 19 top-fives, 27 top-tens, 7 heat race wins, 4 “B” Main wins.
Up Next: Four times the fun with the ASCS Warrior Region in Missouri at California’s Double X Speedway (Thursday and Sunday), Fulton’s Callaway Raceway (Friday) and Moberly’s Randolph County Raceway.

The Beat Goes on for Bell after Finishing off Speedweeks!

Lonnie Wheatley, NORMAN, Okla. (July 2, 2014) – Christopher Bell finished off a busy stretch of racing over the final half of June with another pair of top-ten feature runs during the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek.

What was scheduled to be eleven consecutive nights of winged Sprint Car racing action was cut short by a pair of rainouts along the way and then an incident that cut Bell’s Ohio Speedweek effort short.

“A car blew up in front of us and we had nowhere to go, that car is pretty much junk,” Bell explained of the Friday night heat race incident at Limaland Motorsports Park that brought an end to his Speedweek, forcing him to sit out the Saturday finale.

Bell and the Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 71 Sprint Car were plenty fast before that though, earning a seventh-place finish in Thursday’s feature at Fremont Speedway.  It was Bell’s second top-ten run of All Star Speedweek after placing tenth at Waynesfield the previous Sunday (June 22).

“We were fast at Fremont, we were probably a top-three car most of the way, just a couple of little mistakes and that put us back to seventh,” Bell explained.

“Ohio Speedweek is really tough, especially when you’ve got 50 cars every night,” Bell continued.

The two week stretch of winged racing that included four nights of ASCS Speedweek action that netted two wins and four nights of All Star Speedweek action that resulted in a pair of top-tens was definitely beneficial for Bell.

“I got a lot of good seat time, a lot of valuable laps,” Bell said.

Bell will get plenty more in the coming weeks, beginning with the $7,500-to-win Bob Reynolds Memorial at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Thursday night, a winged 360 NRA Sprint Car event.

From there, it’s back to the USAC National Midget championship points chase with the Angell Park Speedway’s 33rd Annual Pepsi Nationals in Sun Prairie, WI, on Saturday and Sunday.  Bell, the reigning USAC National Midget champion, looks to gain some valuable points as he enters the weekend ranked fourth.

2014 Quick Stats:  55 races, 14 wins, 29 top-fives, 36 top-tens.

Next Up:

Thursday, Waynesfield Raceway Park (Waynesfield, OH) – Marshall Motorsports 33 Winged Sprint Car

Saturday, Angell Park Speedway (Sun Prairie, WI) – Kunz 71 Midget

Sunday, Angell Park Speedway (Sun Prairie, WI) – Kunz 71 Midget
