Dereck Ramirez Conquers Royal Purple for $3k; El Paso Up Next

Woodward, Oklahoma (02/24/15) – Dereck Ramirez continued his red-hot start to the 2015 season with yet another win in his Ramirez Motorsports #4r LG2 by Owens/Cornett Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified. The $3,000 victory came on Friday night in United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competition at Royal Purple Raceway (Baytown, Texas).

After a successful start to the 2015 season, Dereck Ramirez resumed competition with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) over the weekend at Royal Purple Raceway. Thursday night's, $2,000-to-win opener drew a talent-laden field of fifty-three Open Wheel Modified warriors to the oval. An impressive charge from eighth to claim the win in heat race action earned Dereck a spot in the redraw for the 30-lap feature. After receiving the sixth position on the starting grid, Ramirez went on to register a ninth place finish in the final rundown.

Ramirez returned to victory lane on Friday night with a $3,000 triumph in the USMTS event at Royal Purple Raceway, marking his second victory of the season.  A stout field of fifty-five entries converged on the oval, and a fifth to second run in heat race action positioned Dereck sixth in passing points, sending him to the redraw. Ramirez drew the pole position for the 40-lap main event with Kyle Pleasant alongside.

Ramirez took the lead at the initial green flag and never looked back, fending off a late race charge from eventual runner-up, Pleasant and third place finisher, Jason Hughes to score the victory. Clyde Dunn Jr. and John Whittington rounded out the top five finishers.

Saturday night's $4,000-to-win finale at Royal Purple Raceway was nixed by rain.

“It’s been a while since we started a season so strong,” said Ramirez. “My crew is doing a great job, and I can’t thank them and my sponsors enough for their support.”

Dereck is currently second in the USMTS Gulf Coast Border Region standings. Complete results from the events and the latest series' standings are available at www.USMTS.com .

This weekend, February 26th-28th, will find Ramirez Motorsports competing in a trio of USMTS events at El Paso Speedway Park (El Paso, Texas). For more information on the events, please visit www.USMTS.com .

Shane Clanton Bags Five Gators at Volusia

Zebulon, Georgia (02/24/15) - Domination just doesn’t begin to describe what Shane Clanton accomplished last week at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) during the 44th Annual DIRTCar Nationals. The Georgia hot shoe made history by becoming the first driver to ever win four Dirt Late Model events in a week at the historic oval, and along the way he also claimed the DIRTCar Late Model Gator championship for the week in his Weldbank Energy #25 Capital/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“That was a good ol’ Georgia ass-kickin’ right there,” said Clanton in victory lane on Saturday night after winning his fourth race of the week in five tries. “We were by far the class of the field. I don’t give a damn what anybody says. We worked our ass off all winter long. This feels good. I drove my heart out tonight, just biding my time and making the right moves at the right time.” He concluded by noting, “Again I have to say a special thanks to Weldbank Energy, Hornburg Oil, Penn Gold Well Services, VP Racing Fuels, Clements Racing Engines, Capital Race Cars, and all of my great sponsors for their support."

Shane’s stellar week started on Monday with a convincing triumph in the $7,000-to-win, UMP DIRTCar feature, where he stormed from the fifth starting spot to score the victory. Rain won on Tuesday night, and after a fifth place finish on Wednesday night in UMP DIRTCar Late Model action, Clanton was poised for an unbelievable stretch in World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series action to close out the week.

First he stormed to the $10,000 win by a staggering 5.461 seconds on Thursday night. Then on Friday night Clanton was back for more as he overcame a late-race battle with Dale McDowell to again drive away from the field to claim a $10,000 victory for the second straight night in WoO action. The personable driver put an exclamation point on the weekend on Saturday evening by pulling the hat track with his third-straight, $10,000 win. For his efforts he was also crowed the DIRTCar Late Model Gator champion, and received a total of five coveted gator trophies on the week. Clanton now holds five wins on the season.

“It was just an amazing week, but the work is just beginning,” commented Clanton. “We have to carry this momentum into the next series’ events in Kentucky and Arkansas. We definitely can’t let up.”

Shane currently leads the WoO standings by 90 markers over his closest pursuers. Full results and complete standings are available at www.WoOLMS.com .

The next event scheduled for the team is the grand re-opening of New Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) on March 14th with a $1,500-to-win event. For more information, please visit www.SenoiaRaceway.com .
