Jason Hughes Wins in USMTS Hunt Action at I-80 Speedway

Westville, Oklahoma (8/13/13) – It was a turbulent weekend for Jason Hughes as he set out to enter four Hunt for the Casey's Cup events in Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska in his #12 West Siloam Pawn/Hughes Race Car/Mullins Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS).

On Thursday night under threatening skies a $5,000-to-win race was held at I-35 Speedway (Winston, Missouri), where 29 entries registered for competition. A 4th to 2nd run in his heat race sent Hughes to the redraw for the feature, where he was the recipient of the 2nd starting spot for the 40 lap feature alongside pole sitter, Chris Brown. Hughes jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag, and held the top spot until the white flag lap, when contact from Jeremy Payne sent the leader spinning. A disappointed Hughes rejoined the tail of the field for the green-white-checkered finish and rebounded to finish 11th.

Friday night's program at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kansas) was washed away by rain, so the team resumed racing action on Saturday evening at the state-of-the-art, Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri), where another $5,000-to-win event would be held with 45 entries in the pits. Jason would have to come from a b-main to qualify for the feature, where he started 15th. He would be unable to advance any spots in the feature and crossed the finish line in 16th.

The weekend concluded under threatening skies on Sunday evening at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska), where Hughes would claim a $3,000 win! Thirty-two entries filled the pit area, and a 4th to 2nd performance in his heat race sent Hughes to the redraw for the feature, where he received the 2nd starting spot with Steve Whiteaker Jr. joining him on the front row. Hughes jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag, and would pace the first two laps before seeing Jason Krohn jump to the lead. Hughes pursued him until lap 21, when he retook the lead for good on his way to his 6th win of 2013! Johnny Scott Rodney Sanders, Zack VanderBeek, and Jason Krohn rounded out the top five finishers.

"The week definitely started on a sour note at I-35, but it felt good to end things with a win on Sunday night at I-80," commented Hughes. "We are definitely putting our best effort into claiming another USMTS Championship."

Jason is now third in the latest Hunt for the Casey's Cup standings, just 38 points out of the lead. Full results from the event as well as the latest standings are available at www.USMTS.com .

Kyle Beard and Upton Motorsports Enjoy Big Week; Topless 100 Next

Mercer, Tennessee (08/13/13) – It was a big week for Kyle Beard. The big news began early in the week, when he and his wife, Taryn, learned that they will become proud parents on March 17th, 2014. As Upton Motorsports led the congratulatory comments to the Beards, the team prepared for action. The week ended with Beard piloting his #86 Greg's Sawmill/Gary Beard Trucking/Bob Pierce/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to his third win of the season!

With a big smile on his face the soft-spoken driver took the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) point's lead into battle over the weekend with a pair of $2,000-to-win races at Timberline Speedway (Corley, Texas). By the time the opening night was over he had an even bigger smile on his face as he had conquered his first series race of the year to increase his win total to three.

Eighteen Super Late Models entered the program on Friday night at the 1/4 mile oval, and after winning his heat race Beard earned the 2nd starting spot for the feature. He shot to the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all 30 laps to score the win over Patrik Daniel, Jon Mitchell, Ronny Adams, and Keith Craft.

Ashley Newman's luck wouldn't be as good. Via heat race action he earned the 10th starting spot for the feature and was running in the top ten, when a lapped car crashed him from contention as his night came to an early end in the 17th position. He received the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award for his untimely exit from the feature.

Saturday night's program fell victim to rain and will not be rescheduled.

Kyle Beard continues to extend his advantage atop the CCSDS standings with just three events remaining as he looks to claim his first title, while Newman is third in the latest standings and continues to lead the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year points. Full results from the event and the latest standings are available at www.COMPDirt.com.

Upton Motorsports now turns its attention to this weekend's 21st Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas), which will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS). The $40,000-to-win event will include a practice night on Thursday evening with qualifying and heat race action contested on Friday night. Kent Robinson Snares North/South Modified Checkers

Bloomington, Indiana (08/13/13) – Kent entered familiar territory over the weekend by competing in the 31st Annual Sunoco North/South 100 at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky) in both the Super Late Model and Open Wheel Modified division.

The $50,000-to-win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned event drew a field of 67 entries to the 1/2 mile oval, and Kent began his weekend on Friday night by powering his #7r JB's Salvage/Rocket by Club 29/Jay D ickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to the 13th fastest time in his group, which left him starting 5th in his heat race on Saturday evening. Unfortunately on a hammer-down surface he would slip to an 8th place finish in his heat, which sent him to a b-main. He mounted a charge to a 4th place finish in his b-main, but with only the top two finishers moving onto the feature his night came to an early end.

In the UMP Open Wheel Modified division his luck would prove to be much better in the #85 Jones Oil/Bandit Race Car. A strong field of 40 competitors registered for battle, and Kent raced to his heat race win to earn the pole for the $1,000-to-win finale. As the race went green Tommy Bailey bolted to the lead, and Robinson stalked him until lap 6, when he shot to the lead. Once out front Robinson never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Bailey, Derek Groomer, Ted Nobbe, and Jeff Babock.

Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com and www.FlorenceSpeedway.com.

While Saturday's plans for this weekend are still up in the air, Kent plans to enter an UMP Open Wheel Modified event at Bloomington Speedway (Bloomington, Indiana) on Friday evening. For more information on the event please visit www.BloomingtonSpeedway.com .

Broken Suspension Ends Promising Run for BLR at Florence Speedway
Headed to Batesville for the Topless 100

Trinity, NC (August 12, 2013) - Coming off a string of solid performances, Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) and Earl Pearson Jr. had high hopes for another strong run at Florence (S.C) Speedway in Saturday's North/South 100. Unfortunately for Pearson Jr., the suspension within the No. 44 Lucas Oil Longhorn Chassis broke during the feature race and haltered the team's chance for a top finish. Despite the result, Pearson Jr was happy with the car's performance prior to the malfunction and is excited about the team's next race at Batesville (Ark.) Motor Speedway.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) allowed open practice for all teams on Thursday, August 8 at Florence Speedway. The BLR team took advantage of the practice session to test out the No. 44 Longhorn Chassis. Pearson Jr. and the team had great qualifying runs and would be in Heat Race #1 on Saturday night. The No. 44 Lucas Oil Longhorn fell a little short in Heat #1, finishing sixth. Pearson Jr. went on to finish second in B-Main #1, which put the BLR team starting 21st in the North/South 100 Feature race.

Pearson may have started in the back of the field, but before long he was passing cars and heading to the front of the pack. He was coming up through the field when a part in the suspension broke. As Pearson Jr. continued to make laps around the track trying to salvage a finish, he was hit by another competitor ending the BLR team's night. Pearson Jr. was scored with a 17th place finish.

"We had a great car all weekend. I hate it that the results don't show that, but very pleased with the car, just a few tough breaks," said Pearson Jr.

BLR team will head to Batesville, AR later this week for the COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway with practice on Thursday, heat races on Friday and feature Saturday night.  Pearson Jr. remains in fifth place in Lucas Oil Championship Point Standings, 345 points out of first place. For photos, team updates and news go to www.bobbylabonteracing.com. For live updates from the races each week, be sure to follow Earl Pearson Jr. and Bobby Labonte Racing on Twitter and Facebook.

The first two late model chassis built out of Longhorn Chassis went to Justin Labonte and the house car, driven by Earl Pearson Jr. Pearson would debut his Longhorn Chassis at the North/South 100 in Florence, Ky., where he finished a solid second, he'd later record Longhorn Chassis' first Victory at the 2010 Dirt Track World Championships at West Virginia Motor Speedway. Mark Dowdy Racing Scores Pair of Top-10 Finishes at Tennessee National Raceway in Limited Late Model Competition.

Waterloo, Ala (08/11/13)- Mark Dowdy Racing was on the scene at Tennessee National Raceway (Hohenwald, TN) this past Saturday August 10th with Mark Dowdy bringing home a 4th place finish and Dustin Stutts with a 6th place finish.

MDR had an up and down night Saturday night at Tennessee National Raceway. The night started out in qualifying when Dustin Stutts put the Dowdy Welding & Fabrication, Loretto One Stop, Race Horse Deals, Warrior #102 Late Model on the pole for the nights feature. Mark put the Action track chair, Rather Sewer Inspection, FK Rod Ends, # 88D Killer Chassis in the 7th spot.

By the time the feature rolled out the track had slick off pretty bad. The green flag dropped and the field rumbled into turn one. The #93 of Eddie Rinehart got under the #102 of Stutts and turned him around, sending the entire field into a scramble. Fortunately, no cars were damaged and the entire feature was restarted. When the green flew on the restart, so did the #102 of Stutts and jumped to an early lead and the field settled in. The track was dominant on the bottom lane however, drivers were able to attempt passes. At the halfway point the #54 of AJ Ferguson had gained ground on the #102. Stutts then pushed the nose of his car going into turn 1. Ferguson saw an opening and shot for the spot. Both cars came together and a caution flag flew. Stutts was not able to restart and Ferguson was sent off the track. Upon the restart Dowdy had moved into the 4th position. The top 4 cars broke away and ran nose to tail with no major changes. The race took the checkered flag with the #H17 of Steven Holcomb taking the win, followed by TJ Taylor, Donald Johns, Mark Dowdy & Todd Clemmons rounding out the top 5.

This coming Saturday August 17th, 2013, you will find the #88D Killer Chassis Super Late Model going back on the road with the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series. The series will make a stop at the super fast Tazwell Speedway in Tazwell Tn. In the first stop on the series at Penton raceway Mark suffered a violent tumbling flip during Hot Laps. The car is back together and ready to take on the high banks of the Tazwell Speedway in Tazwell Tennessee.
