Swindell Wins Second Straight National Sprint League Event at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 1, 2016) - Sammy Swindell is the first back-to-back winner this season during National Sprint League competition.

Swindell scored his second straight triumph on Friday at Knoxville Raceway, where he held onto the top spot during all 22 laps despite a pair of green-white-checkered finishes.

"We've got this Big Game Treestands/Muddy car rolling now," he said. "We had a different motor in tonight so we had a few things we needed to be different in. We made just the right changes for the main. The car was pretty awesome."

Swindell opened the first night of a weekend doubleheader at the famed half-mile oval by qualifying 13th quickest. However, he won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to advance to eighth in overall points. That locked him into the final spot in the feature inversion, which ended up being an eight to put Swindell on the pole for the 20-lap main event.

He quickly powered into the lead and maintained a strong pace using the bottom groove. A caution on Lap 7 for Scott Bogucki slowing on the frontstretch and a red flag on Lap 8 for Dominic Scelzi and Bronson Maeschen flipping in turns one and two slowed the pace for the first half of the feature.

Swindell built a 2.3 second advantage once he hit traffic with six laps remaining. He led by more than 1.5 seconds on the final lap when Andrew Caruana stopped in turn three to bring out a caution to set up the first green-white-checkered restart.

Swindell maintained the lead as Dusty Zomer rode the cushion to stay within striking distance. Swindell was in turn three on the final lap when a red flag came out for Tasker Phillips flipping on the frontstretch. That set the stage for another green-white-checkered finish and this time it went caution-free as Swindell posted his 50th career triumph at Knoxville Raceway.

Zomer ended second with Danny Lasoski taking advantage of the final restarts to advance to a third-place result, which propelled him into the lead in the National Sprint League championship standings by 73 points over Craig Dollansky.

Lynton Jeffrey earned a fourth-place finish with Kerry Madsen rounding out the top five.

Davey Heskin started the night's competition by setting quick time during qualifying before Swindell, Phillips and Scelzi each won a heat race.

Knoxville Raceway hosts the second half of the National Sprint League's doubleheader on Saturday when Swindell will aim to tie the National Sprint League record for consecutive feature victories at three in a row. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. with qualifying at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 13 to 19 and free for ages 12 and younger. Pit passes are $25.

The Cushion will provide live Pay-Per-View video at http://www.TheCushion.com.
