Kerry Madsen Sweeps National Sprint League Event at Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 18, 2016) - Kerry Madsen swept the National Sprint League event on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he has claimed two of the four NSL races this season.

Madsen opened the night by setting quick time during qualifying before he maneuvered from sixth to capture a heat race triumph. A six-car inversion for the feature lined Madsen, who earned the most combined qualifying and heat race points, up on the outside of the third row for the 20-lap main event.

"I told the guys, 'Don't leave it in my hands; give me a good car or I'll screw it up,'" he joked in Victory Lane. "It's fantastic to give the team a victory."

Madsen advanced into fourth place on the opening lap and to third on Lap 5. He took over the runner-up position on Lap 8 before passing his brother, Ian Madsen, who led the first eight laps of the feature, on Lap 9.

"I had to move around," Kerry Madsen said. "I don't think I went near the cushion all night. That's a good race car when you can do that."

Kerry Madsen pulled away from the field during the second half of the main event to join Craig Dollansky, who continues to hold the lead in the National Sprint League championship standings after placing eighth on Saturday, as the only drivers with multiple feature victories this season.

Ian Madsen held off Tim Kaeding for second place with Brian Brown ending fourth and Sammy Swindell powering from 11th to round out the top five, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

Austin McCarl and Dollansky joined Kerry Madsen as heat race winners. Tasker Phillips captured the B Main triumph.

The only delay of the night came at the start of the main event when a power surge hammered the track on the opening lap. The red flag came out and the start of the feature was delayed approximately 20 minutes. Once the race restarted it went green to checkered.

The National Sprint League will wrap up this weekend on Sunday at Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City, Iowa. Tickets for the race are $20 in advance (call 515-832-6000) or $25 on race day for adults, $15 for seniors ages 65 and older and for students ages 11 to 16, and free for children ages 10 and younger.
