Blaney Enters All Star Season Finale at Atomic Speedway Seeking Win

Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2016) - Dale Blaney heads into the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions season finale this weekend ranked second in the championship standings.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team is 18 points behind the leader in the standings as the series wraps up on Friday and Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, where the race winner earns $20,000.

"We'll just have to go down there and do the best we can," he said. "We've had a lot of success there in the past. Hopefully we continue with that. I like my chances. My mindset going in is I'm not going to worry about the points. The only thing I'm concerned about is winning that race."

Blaney has only competed at the high-banked oval once this season. He finished 16th in June. However, Blaney registered seven victories in 10 races at the track in 2014 and 2015.

Blaney competed in Central Pennsylvania last weekend during a pair of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races, beginning on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg for the National Open.

"I didn't make a very good lap in turns three and four both laps and that got us behind a little bit," he said. "I was happy with our heat. We jumped right into fourth and ran fourth the whole race."

Blaney qualified 10th quickest in his group before placing fourth in a heat race. That locked him into the 16th starting position for the feature.

"My main goal was to get to the top 10," he said. "I got there at one point. Restarts were really good for us. I was in the right lane every time. That's really where we gained all our spots."

Blaney advanced as high as 10th place before dropping a position in the closing laps to end 11th.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway, where Blaney timed in sixth quickest in his group before he finished fourth in a heat race to again start the feature on the outside of the eighth row.

"I was really happy with our time trial effort," he said. "We went out really late. I felt like I timed as good of a lap as I could. We just missed the front row of a heat race by half a tenth.

"In the feature I was hoping to get a top 10. I really felt like we ran pretty good. The starts hurt us. I always lost one or two and had to fight to get those back. I felt like starting 16th and running 16th doesn't look good, but I felt good coming out of there."

Blaney capped the weekend with a 16th-place finish.

Starks Heading to The Dirt Track at Charlotte This Weekend With USCS Series

Inside Line Promotions - PUYALLUP, Wash. (Oct. 18, 2016) - Trey Starks has won 10 races at 10 different tracks this season and he's hopeful to add another to both totals this weekend during the World Short Track Championships.

Starks and car owner Jeff McCall are heading to The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the USCS Series race on Friday and Saturday. The team has earned three victories this season - all with the USCS Series on the East Coast.

1"It'd be really cool to get one at The Dirt Track at Charlotte," Starks said. "It's a prestigious track and one of the crown jewel tracks along with Knoxville, Eldora, Williams Grove and places like that. It's an amazing facility. I'm sure we'll be in front of a bunch of fans. I'd imagine there will be a decent amount of cars trying to do what we are and tune up for the World Finals."

This weekend will be the first of two straight at the track as Starks and McCall will return to The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series the following weekend.

"I'd say our goal is to win the race this weekend, but it is also a big help in testing for next week," he said. "The Dirt Track at Charlotte is a track nobody gets to run on very much except once or twice a year. To get an extra test session, one more time on the track, that'll help us."

Starks hasn't raced since sweeping USCS races on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

Bruce Jr. Progresses Throughout Devil's Bowl Winter Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 18, 2016) - Tony Bruce Jr. showed improvement throughout the Winter Nationals last weekend at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

Bruce Jr., who was driving for the Smith Family, kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action by finishing fourth in a heat race on Friday.

"The biggest problem we had was I got a bad start," he said. "The track was pretty heavy so we lost a spot there and that hurt us in points. If you don't get through the heat race well enough you will be buried all night long."

Bruce Jr. narrowly made a qualifier, which he advanced from ninth to seventh in before finishing third in a B Main to garner a transfer position into the back of the main event.

"When the track widened out we were able to earn a transfer spot and make the show," he said. "We had a good car all night. It just took a while for the track to widen out."

Bruce Jr. then charged from 21st to a 13th-place result in the feature.

"I feel like we could have been in the top 10," he said. "There were a couple of mistakes that I made that cost us, but any time you go forward it's a good night. There were a lot of cars and good drivers there."

The weekend concluded on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Bruce Jr. maneuvered from sixth to fourth place during a heat race before he won a qualifier.

"We got a good start and went from sixth to fourth on the initial start," he said. "The biggest problem there was we were in the first heat with a lot of good cars. We had to ride fourth and maintain to take what we could get and then we did the best we could in the qualifier by winning from the pole."

That lined Bruce Jr. up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

"It was unfortunate that the track wasn't ideal to race on come A Main," he said. "A few guys missed the bottom getting into turn one and I knew that I had to make sure I stuck the bottom because it was locked down rubber."

Bruce Jr. picked up a trio of positions on the opening lap and he maintained sixth for the remainder of the race to earn his 14th top 10 of the season.

"Being able to always go forward is key to anything in racing," he said. "It gives us a lot of momentum and shows we're going in the right direction."

He will take the next couple of weeks off before returning to action with the Smith Family Nov. 3-5 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 29 th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

Herrera Wins Winter Nationals Opener Before Podium Finish During Finale

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 18, 2016) - Johnny Herrera enjoyed a strong performance last weekend during the Winter Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

Herrera opened the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday by winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row.

"You have to capitalize on that," he said. "Then in the qualifier we got a decent start and went from fifth to third. I got to fourth right away and I ended up getting up to third. Sammy Swindell got tight and I was free enough to roll around him."

Herrera ranked third in overall points out of nearly 50 competitors so he started the main event on the inside of the second row.

"We took off the first couple of laps and we were all right together," he said. "Martin Edwards and Josh Baughman were sliding back and forth. They ended up making contact in the first couple of laps and (Edwards) spun around off the race track and kept it going. The yellow came out and we restarted second.

"(Baughman) was a lot tighter than I was. He had to have clean race track. He had been running through the middle and getting to the cushion on the exit. I saw where I was making up time on him running the top. I passed him in turns three and four on the top. By the time he got back to the top I was coming by."

Herrera took the lead on Lap 14.

"I dropped a cylinder about the time I passed Baughman," he said. "We ran the rest of the race and I was a little nervous. It was ok until we had that red with about four laps to go. The engine was hot and it was smoking. I was worried about it taking off. Luckily the Ostrich engine held out for us."

While down on horsepower, Herrera was able to finish the race and hold on for his seventh win of the season.

"I don't think I changed one thing all night," he said. "We didn't change stagger, didn't change a bolt. That's a rarity. We just scrapped mud. We had a few of our sponsors there so it was great to have them be a part of another win. Plus, that locked us into Saturday's feature redraw."

Herrera capped the weekend by pulling the No. 3 to start Saturday's main event on the inside of the second row.

"If the track could have been the same the first night it could have been different," he said. "It was rubber down by the last B Main. Everyone went to the bottom on the first lap of the A Main and we just rode there."

Herrera maintained third place throughout the feature before he ended with the podium finish, which was his 27th top five of the season.

He is slated to make his final 410ci sprint car start of the season this Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Salina, Okla., for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Twister Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Dover Sweeps Season Finale to End Year With 14th Feature Victory

Inside Line Promotions - RISING CITY, Neb. (Oct. 18, 2016) - Jack Dover wrapped up the 2016 campaign the best way he could.

Dover scored a victory during his season finale last Saturday at Butler County Speedway to give him 14 triumphs this year, which is only one behind his career-best total. It marks the fourth time Dover has earned at least 14 wins in a season.

1"It's pretty awesome," he said. "I wish I had more wins, but from where we started the year to where we ended I'm real happy. I'm looking forward to next year already."

The action began with Dover setting quick time during qualifying out of the 22 competitors. He then won a heat race from the pole position to lock himself into the feature redraw.

"They took the top three in each heat," he said. "We had to redraw and the pill you drew you had to give to someone else. I drew the No. 5 and gave it away. Cody Ledger, who was driving a second car for me, drew the No. 1 and gave it to me."

Although Dover gained the pole position for the 25-lap main event, he quickly fell into second.

"Seth Brahmer, who started second, took off in the beginning," he said. "I got him in lapped traffic about halfway through. He went down to the bottom and a lapped car went to the bottom. I railed around the top and that's how I got around him."

Dover led approximately 10 laps before he was caught up in traffic.

"With two or three laps to go (Brahmer) got back by me because I was fighting lapped traffic," he said. "It was the same deal as when I passed him only in different corners. Then going into turn three coming into the white flag I threw a slide job on him."

Dover regained the lead for the final lap and a half en route to the victory, which was his ninth at the track in the last four seasons.

Baughman Shows Speed Before Feature Crashes at Winter Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 18, 2016) - Josh Baughman was in contention for a win during the Winter Nationals last weekend.

Unfortunately, luck didn't fall in Baughman's favor during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

The action began on Friday when Baughman won a heat race before he advanced from fourth to second place in a qualifier. That ranked him second out of nearly 50 competitors in overall points and started him on the outside of the front row for the main event.

Baughman led the first 13 laps of the 25-lap main event before falling to third place. However, he remained in striking distance of the top spot until a collision with a lapped car with only four laps remaining resulted in Baughman getting upside down.

"It was a frustrating way to end the night because we were not only in contention for the win, but we were in one of the four lock-in spots for Saturday's feature redraw," he said after ending 18th.

The team returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday. Baughman won a heat race before he placed third in a qualifier to lock into the 13th starting position for the main event.

"On the start a couple of guys got together in front of me and I had nowhere to go," he said. "I got into the frontstretch wall and it broke the Jacob's Ladder."

The race restarted before Baughman was able to return and he was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

"It was a rough weekend for sure," he said. "We tore some stuff up. We just got caught up in mishaps in the features."

Hanks Runs Into Rough Luck Throughout Winter Nationals at Devil's Bowl

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 18, 2016) - Brandon Hanks endured a challenging weekend at the Winter Nationals hosted by Devil's Bowl Speedway.

"It was a tough weekend to swallow," he said. "It was probably one of the worst weekends we've had all year long. That just happens sometimes in racing."

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event began on Friday with Hanks drawing a high number, which started him sixth in a heat race.

"We had a fast car," he said. "The track was a lot different than the normal Devil's Bowl. It was real greasy in my heat race. I was up to fourth and looking to get (Travis) Rilat for third. I had a good run on him and the next thing I knew there was a right rear in my door. A guy behind me just monster trucked me. He was stuck on top of me. By the time he got off of me my car had stalled so I had to go to the rear. I made it back to where I started, but that was the best I could do."

Hanks ended sixth in the heat race, which relegated him to the middle of a B Main. He finished seventh and was forced to use a provisional to start the main event at the back. Hanks completed a lap and pulled into the pits with a 24th-place result.

Saturday featured similar misfortune as Hanks again drew a high pill to start his heat race seventh. He finished in that position, which lined him up eighth in a B Main.

"Every time I did get a run on somebody I was always having to check up," he said. "Turn two was real sketchy. By the time I'd get to them it was like they'd slide off the track so I'd have to get out of the throttle to keep from running over them. That happened to me numerous times."

Hanks was unable to make any progress on the rubber-down track as he placed eighth in the B Main. He took a provisional to tag the back of the field for the A Main and again pulled off early. He was credited with a 21st-place finish.

Hanks will take the next two weeks off before returning to ASCS National Tour competition Nov. 4-5 at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., for the Fall Fling.

Hagar Endures Mechanical Woes to Slow Strong Night

Inside Line Promotions - ATWOOD, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2016) - Derek Hagar was looking at another solid result and potentially a win before mechanical problems occurred last Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports.

"We started on the pole of the dash and finished second," he said. "In the heat race we started fifth and finished second."

The strong results placed Hagar toward the top in points and gave him a good starting spot in the 25-lap USCS Series main event.

"We started on the outside front row of the feature and ran second for the first 16 laps," he said. "We were catching the leader and aiming to make a move on him when we had a part failure in the engine. I had to hurry up and shut it off."

The mechanical problem occurred on Lap 16. Though Hagar was dealt bad luck, he remains positive about his 13th-place finish.

"I can't complain," he said. "That was our first motor issue we've had in the last three or four years. We've been pretty fortunate."

Hagar has the next two weeks off until returning to action Nov. 3-5 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 29th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.
