Sides Wrapping Up World of Outlaws West Coast Spring Swing This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - CALISTOGA, Calif. (April 12, 2016) - Jason Sides is slated to invade a trio of tracks this weekend as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series spring swing through the West comes to a close.

Sides will tackle Bakersfield Speedway in Bakersfield, Calif., for the Budweiser Bash on Friday. It will mark his first trip back to the track since he established a new track record in 2006 and placed ninth in the main event.

"I remember we set a new track record, but got caught up in a crash in our heat race," he said. "We had some speed there so hopefully we can have that again this weekend."

Sides will then venture to Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown on Saturday. He scored a 10th-place result at the half-mile oval last year.

"You need to start in the top half of the field to finish well there," he said. "There's not much passing. There will probably be twin heat races because of a low car count though so that will give you twice the chance to be in the dash."

USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz., will wrap up the weekend for the NAPA Wildcat Shootout next Monday.

"The last couple of times we've been there it was pretty decent," he said. "We're still looking to get over the hurdle there so hopefully we can put together a good qualifying lap with a solid heat race to be in contention in the main event."

Sides placed 11th at the high-banked track last season.

Last weekend's Wine Country Outlaw Showdown at Calistoga Speedway was rained out.

Hagar Charges to Seventh Top-Five Finish of the Season

Inside Line Promotions - BYRAM, Miss. (April 12, 2016) - Derek Hagar capped last weekend with a strong performance at Jackson Motor Speedway, where he maneuvered from 13th to register his seventh top-five finish of the season.

It was a solid ending to a weekend that began with a heat race win on Friday during the opening round of the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints Region doubleheader. That lined Hagar up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

"We got up to fourth and I was catching a guy for third," he said. "The cushion was right on the fence. I got into the wall too hard. It brought the front end around and flattened the right front tire. I didn't realize it and I went into turn one and it about turned over. Luckily I got it saved."

Hagar brought out the caution following the incident with three laps remaining, but he was trapped in the work area and credited with an 18th -place result.

The team shook off the frustrating finish for Saturday's event, where Hagar once again won a heat race from the pole position. That locked him into the 13 th starting position for the 30-lap main event.

"We're always strong when we go to that place," he said. "The track stayed real dirty all night. It was hard to move around and find anything. Once the track finally got cleaned off everyone was stacking up on the bottom and the moisture was going to the middle. I was using it to my advantage and going around cars."

Hagar rallied to pick up a fourth-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"If we would have had more cautions we would have had a second-place car," he said. "We were just behind the eight ball starting 13th."

Hagar will return to action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 Diamond Region.

QUICK RESULTS -

Hanks Survives Hectic Night with ASCS Red River at Creek County

Inside Line Promotions - SAPULPA, Okla. (April 12, 2016) - Brandon Hanks survived a wild night last Friday at Creek County Speedway.

"We salvaged a top 10 out of what seemed like a disaster," he said. "It was one of those short track racing nights I guess."

The ASCS Red River Region event got off to a rough start for Hanks, who was involved in a mid-race collision during his heat race.

"We were doing ok in the heat running fourth and I got slammed into by another driver," he said. "That bent my drag link. When I went down the track I collided with Kyle Bellm. That was my fault. I felt really, really bad. The car went down and I stood in the gas. I did a wheelie and went straight down the track. He didn't have anywhere to go."

Hanks ended his heat race seventh, which relegated him toward the back of the B Main. However, he maneuvered to the victory in the consolation race to transfer into the 17th starting position for the main event.

"The start of the A Main was crazy," he said. "I know it's a small race track, but you can still give each other room. They went to piling up every start. On the second one I couldn't get stopped in time and got collected. It tore both wings up. We took a ratchet strap to strap the nose wing down. They were duct taping the top wing. Luckily, the car was good enough that we still drove to seventh. We made the best of it and we passed a lot of cars."

Hanks rallied from the back to post a seventh-place finish, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

"I want to thank Seth Bergman's and Blake Hahn's race teams for their help in the work area," he said. "We wouldn't have got back on the race track if those guys and everyone didn't pitch in."

Hanks currently ranks second in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings - only two points out of the lead.

QUICK RESULTS -

April 8 - Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. - Heat race: 7 (3); B Main: 1 (7); Feature: 7 (16).
