Ashley Newman Doubles Up in Weekend Win Tally

Ripley, Tennessee (03/24/15) –  It was back to business for Ashley Newman and the Upton Motorsports team over the weekend as they entered a doubleheader at Tennessee National Raceway (Hohenwald, Tennessee), where the Ripley, Tennessee driver came away with a pair of wins in his Bob Pierce #73 Greg’s Sawmill Crate Late Model.

Friday night's program boasted a $650 top prize to Crate Late Model competitors, and Newman started his outing by posting the fastest lap in qualifications to lock into the pole position for the feature. Ashley led flag-to-flag in the main event for his first victory of the season.

Saturday night's event also paid $650 to the winner, as Newman would pick up right where he left off the night before. Ashley once again earned the pole position for the final via time trials, and went to lead every lap, completing the weekend sweep.

“It was a fantastic weekend for the team,” commented Newman. “Maybe if Mother Nature will cut us some slack we can start racing more, and knock down some more wins.”

This Saturday, March 28th will take the team to Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tennessee) for the inaugural event for the newly-formed, United Crate Racing Association (UCRA). The program will be headlined by a $2,500-to-win finale. For more information, please visit www.UCRARacing.com .

Tony Jackson Jr. Wins Wild MARS Feature at Springfield

Lebanon, Missouri (03/24/15) – After more than a month away from the track, Tony Jackson Jr. resumed competition on Saturday night at Springfield Raceway (Springfield, Missouri). He would make the most of the opportunity by winning a wild feature in his Henryetta Ford #56 Black Diamond by Club 29/Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The $2,000-to-win, MARS DIRTcar Series opener drew a stout field of thirty Super Late Models the 1/4-mile oval. Tony charged to a convincing heat race victory, locking him into the second starting spot for the feature alongside Jesse Stovall. Despite heavy and rough tracks conditions, Jackson Jr. waged a fierce battle with Stovall and Tyler Erb for the top spot in the late stages of the main event. Erb suffered mechanical issues with just five laps remaining, relinquishing the lead to Jackson Jr. Tony went on to claim his second victory of the season over Stovall, Jeremy Payne, Brandon Hightower, and Dustin Walker.

“That was a crazy race tonight,” said an exhausted Tony Jackson Jr. in victory lane. “The track crew did their best with the track, but Mother Nature made it pretty difficult tonight. Luckily we were able to figure a line out tonight and come on top.” He concluded by noting, “I want to thank my sponsors and fans for all of their great support.”
