Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series that has been four years in the making.  Talladega Short Track has played an important role in the development of the all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine, as it was the first weekly dirt track in the country to embrace the engine as an economical alternative to specially built super late model engines costing four times more.

An all-star field of drivers from seven different states will be at the Dega 100 Presented By Chevrolet of Boaz this Saturday night at Talladega Short Track representing Hall of Fame drivers, National Champions, former Talladega Short Track regulars, and young up and coming drivers.

William Thomas of Phenix City, AL is the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point leader after winning four of the first six races of the 2013 season, and finishing third in the other two.  The third generation racer can clinch the $10,000 title with a 22nd-place finish or better in the Dega 100 on Saturday night.

Thomas has already tasted victory at Talladega Short Track in super late model competition this season with his all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine.  Thomas topped a field of super late models, many of which were powered by high-dollar specially built engines, in the Mike Head Jr. Memorial Race at TST in July.

Thomas has won Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series races this season at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and at Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, TN.

National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is second in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings.  Johnson spent four years doing the on track research and development for Chevrolet Performance on the all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine, and won several big races during that time at Talladega Short Track.

Last weekend, Johnson clinched the National Championship for the sister series of the Chevy Super Series, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, that features dirt late models powered by the Chevrolet Performance 604 Crate Engine.

The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion, Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is third in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings.  Turner has one series win this season, coming last month at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN.

Tim Busha of Boaz, AL is one of several drivers that have raced weekly at Talladega Short Track that are now regulars with the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series.  Busha will return to his home track fourth in the point standings with one victory this season at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Joining Busha in the Talladega Short Track homecoming for Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series regulars will be the former Talladega Short Track Crate Late Model Champion and Super Late Model regular Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, who is currently seventh in the Chevy Super Series standings.

Adam Martin’s father Ross Martin of Talladega, AL will also be returning to his home track and the scene of his biggest career win, the 2013 Icebowl back in January.  Ross Martin is tenth in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series standings.  Both Martins have super late model wins at Talladega Short Track in race cars powered by the all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine.

Other Talladega Short Track Alumni returning as Chevrolet Performance Super Series regulars for the Dega 100 Presented By Chevrolet of Boaz are Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Ted Lackey of Munford, AL and Steve Kirk of Munford, AL.
