NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 25 PREVIEW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The battle for the $10,000 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship continues in Week 25 competition this weekend with two tracks in the center of attention.  The title could be won or lost between point leader Chris Holley of Dayton, TX, and challenger Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS at one of two race tracks.

Holley can clinch the championship with a win or a second-place finish on Saturday night at his home track Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX.  If Holley fails to finish first or second, Palasini has to win Double Features on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL to stay alive for the title.  If Palasini does not race at Talladega Short Track, Holley is the champion.

Holley had an opportunity to clinch the championship last weekend, but due to what he called poor track conditions after a late afternoon rain shower and a poor draw for his starting position in the heat race; Holley decided to save his only race car to battle another day.  That opened the door for Palasini to stay alive in the championship duel.

Palasini went to his home track, just ten minutes from his house, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS where he set fast time, won his heat race and took his 11th NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season.  This weekend, Palasini will have to travel a little bit further than ten minutes to have a chance to keep his title hopes alive.

There are three weeks left in the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, and should Holley not produce a top two finish in those three weeks of racing, Palasini can stay alive with a 50-point win in each of those weeks.  Going into Week 25 competition, Holley has a perfect best 14 week total of 700 points represented by 14 fifty-point wins, and he also has a 15th win for the tie-breaker bank, along with two second-place finishes.

Palasini currently has 694 points represented by ten 50-point wins, two second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes.  Palasini had two wins in one week, so one went to his season total, and one went into his tie-breaker bank, along with a third-place finish.

Palasini has to net on the 49s and the 48s with 50-point wins to reach the 700 point mark and tie Holley in points, wins, and second-place finishes.  With three weeks left, that’s why Palasini has to make the trip to Talladega Short Track where they are hosting Double Features on Saturday night that includes a Week 20 Make Up Race.

Palasini has to win both features at TST, and then post a Week 26 win and a Week 27 win to stay alive if Holley cannot clinch the championship.  If Palasini wins out and Holley has three straight third-place finishes in the final three weeks of the season, they would still be tied for the championship.

The $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship could possibly be decided by a fourth-place finish.  Holley has none, so Palasini could take the big prize with his worst finish of the season, a fourth-place run that took place in Week 1 on March 29 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Also yet to be decided are the third through tenth points fund-paying spots in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National point standings that also give a driver an invitation to the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet in January at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA.  Just ten points separate third through tenth in the points chase.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 690 points and he will be trying to net on a 47 in Week 25 action.  Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is fourth with a best 14-week total of 689 points, and he will be trying to net on a 47.

Both Arnold and Smith are scheduled to be in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 25 action on Friday night.  Arnold will be looking for his tenth win of the season at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and Smith will be after win number seven at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN is fifth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points, and Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN is sixth with 685 points.  King will be trying to net on a 46, and Ballenger will be trying to net on a 47.  Both drivers will tee up against each other on Saturday night in a $1,000-to-win event at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS, and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS are knotted up in a three-way tie for the seventh spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, as each driver has a best 14 week total of 682 points.

Gauldin will be at Talladega Short Track on Saturday night trying to net on a 46 and a 47 in the Double Features.  Bridgmon and Lee are expected to be at the $1,000-to-win I-20 Challenge Series Race on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS where both drivers will be trying to net on 47s.

Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 680 points.  Kratzer is expected to be at Salina Speedway on Friday night trying to net on a 47.  Behind Kratzer, there are five drivers on the outside looking in for a Top 10 points fund-paying spot.  Tenth through 15th are separated by 18 points.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is 11th with a best 14 week total of 676 points and he will be looking to net on a 45.  Daspit will more than likely start out Week 25 competition on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL and Darrick Klima of Belleville, KS are tied for the 12th spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 672 points.  The 13-year-old Skinner will be at Talladega Short Track on Saturday night trying to net on two 45s.  Klima is expected at Salina Speedway on Friday night to try and net on a 45.

Another Salina Speedway driver, Daniel Smith of Wichita, KS, is 14th in the standings with a best 14 week total of 667 and will be trying to net on a 45 this Friday night.  Heath Minor of Ralph, AL is 15th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 662 points and will be trying to net on a 41 in the season finale this Saturday night at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL.

Also presenting NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 25 races this Saturday night will be Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund.  Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
