CHEVY SUPER SERIES READY FOR MISSISSIPPI DOUBLE RACING WEEKEND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Race fans in Mississippi will get their first look at the future of dirt late model racing this weekend when America’s first “Factory Backed and Factory Built” series, the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series, will be at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS on Saturday night, and at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on Sunday night.

First up will be the Nelson Hall Chevrolet 50 paying $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series.  On Sunday night, it’s the Carl Hogan Automotive 50 paying $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start.  The two races will be Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2013 season.

The dirt late models in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series are powered by the production based all-aluminum LS3 engine that comes in the Chevrolet Corvette, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Chevrolet SS passenger cars that are available at Chevrolet dealers worldwide.  The engine can be purchased at the dealerships for $7,195 with a start-up accessory kit for $2,259.

The Chevrolet Performance racing version of the LS3 production engine is called the CT 525, and it has proven itself in competition over the past four years by winning major super dirt late model events against aftermarket engines costing upwards of $40,000.  The engine has also competed during the four-year period maintenance-free with only oil changes required.

Leading the star-studded entry list for the Nelson Hall Chevrolet 50 on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park and the Carl Hogan Automotive 50 on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway will be the Chevrolet Performance Super Series point leader William Thomas of Phenix City, AL.  Thomas has won the first two series races and will be looking to keep his streak alive this weekend.

Thomas has already shown the profitability of the all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine, as during a two-week time period, Thomas purchased his engine, installed it in his race car, and then won the first four races he competed in, earning enough prize money to more than pay for the engine twice over.

Along with Thomas, two National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductees will be at both races, including Thomas’ father Billy Thomas, who will be competing in his first dirt late model race in 22 years.  Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is another Hall of Fame driver that is currently tied for the second spot in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings.

Sharing the second spot in the series points chase with Johnson is Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL, who has a pair of third-place finishes in the first two events of the season.  Tim Busha of Boaz, AL is fourth in the standings, and David Brannon of Elora, TN holds down the fifth spot.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA is sixth in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings, and Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is seventh.  The father-son team of Ross Martin and Adam Martin of Talladega, AL are eighth and ninth respectively in the point standings.

Ross Martin won the Icebowl Super Late Model Race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL back in January, and Adam Martin was the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Champion.  The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series South Region Champion Frank Wilson of Milton, FL is tenth in the Chevy Super Series points chase.

Also competing with the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series are former NASCAR asphalt Modified standout Brad Smith of Winston-Salem, NC, Richie Stephens of Salem, AL, Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS and Mark Dowdy of Waterloo, AL, who is a paraplegic driver that is paralyzed from the waist down and drives with hand controls.

The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Models are a perfect fit for both Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway, two tracks that are well-known for flat-out three and four-wide racing.  Race fans will have an opportunity to see a Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race car with its production based all-aluminum engine before race time.

The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Show Car will be on display at Nelson Hall Chevrolet located at 1811 Frontage Road in Meridian, MS on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at Carl Hogan Automotive located at 2333 U.S. Highway 45 in Columbus, MS on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model race car sitting next to a Chevrolet Camaro or Chevrolet Corvette off the showroom floor, an up close look will show the same engine that is in the race car and used for competition can be purchased in a passenger car at the dealership for everyday use.

Race fans can also see the race cars up close, and meet the drivers for autographs and photos at both tracks in the Chevy Fan Zone.  The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series drivers and their race cars will be in the Chevy Fan Zone at Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
