NeSMITH/AR BODIES STREET STOCK DIVISION WEEK 23 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies point leader Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS picked up win number 13 on the season Saturday night in the Week 7 Make-Up Race at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL driving the Performance Bodies “Throwback” 1957 Chevrolet.

The win for Idom set up what could be a big night in his hometown because if he can win the Week 24 race this Friday night at his home track, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, he will clinch the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship, barring any further Double Feature races in the last three weeks of the season.

The defending NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Champion Trey Bright of Coker, AL, Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS, and Larry Faulk of Pace, FL still have a mathematical chance to challenge Idom for the National Championship if Idom fails to win this week.  Both Bright and Pace turned in Week 23 wins to stay alive in the title hunt.

Bright drove the Eaton Clinic Chevrolet powered by a $3,295 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to his seventh NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season on Sunday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.  Bright battled with Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS for the win.  Whittington finished second and is still a title contender.

Faulk drove the L&S Construction Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to his six NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the 2014 season in the Week 23 feature race on Saturday night at Southern Raceway to keep his title hopes alive going into Week 24 competition.

Bright, Whittington and Falk’s chances to challenge Idom for the National Championship also got a boost this week, as Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL has announced they will run Double Features this Saturday night.  The first feature race will be a Week 17 Make-Up Race, and the second feature race will be the regularly scheduled Week 24 race.

This gives the challenging trio of Bright, Whittington and Faulk five point earning opportunities in the last four weeks of the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division season.

Idom leads the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 696 points, four points away from a “Perfect Season” represented by 14 fifty-point wins.  Bright is second in the standings with a best 14 week total of 681 points, and an opportunity to win out in the last four weeks of the season that would bring his season total to 698 points.

Whittington is third in the standings with a 14 week total of 674 points, and with five straight wins can net an additional 23 points by winning out in the last four weeks of the season in the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet and total 697 points.

Faulk is fourth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 671 points, and an opportunity to net 26 points by winning out in the five points earning opportunities during the last four weeks of the season and total 697 points.

Idom will be trying to net on a 48 in NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 24 competition.  A Week 24 fifty-point win for Idom would net him two points, and give him a total of 698 points.  That would tie Bright if he wins out.  Idom would have the tie-breaker advantage with more wins.  A win by Idom also eliminates Whittington and Faulk as championship contenders.

So a win by Idom in NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 24 competition pretty much seals the deal, but he will have to wait and see if there are any more Double Feature nights scheduled for Week 25.  If Bright, Whittington or Faulk take a Week 24 win, their championship hopes are reborn with an additional Double Feature night, but they have to win to stay in.

David Windham of Florala, AL is fifth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 670 points.  Windham was able to net three points in Week 23 competition with a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in the Florala Pharmacy Chevrolet.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS is sixth in the standings with a best 14 total of 657 points.  Leftwich did not compete in NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 23 competition in the STR Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.  Branden Harris of Molino, FL did not net any Week 23 points in the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet and remains seventh in the standings with a best 14 week total of 647 points.

Doug Lea of Milton, FL is eighth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 642 points.  Lea was able to net 16 points in the double features on Saturday night at Southern Raceway driving the L&L Construction Services Chevrolet with a seventh-place finish in the Week 7 Make-Up Race, and a third-place finish in the Week 23 race.

Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL was able to net two points with a 40-point win on Saturday night at Northwest Florida Speedway driving the S&S Electronics Chevrolet for his second win of the season.  Shaw is ninth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 633 points.  Mike Lane of Pace, FL rounds out the top ten with a best 14 week total of 627 points.

NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 24 action got off to an early start on Monday night with Wayne Hawthorne of Jay, FL driving the Prescott Gas Chevrolet to his second win of the season at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL.

A total of 285 different drivers have earned points in 23 weeks of NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competition.  The complete NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point standings can be found on the Points page of the NeSmith Racing web site at www.nesmithracing.com.
