NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 20 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series saw many drivers reach the 14 week mark of their respective 2014 seasons, and some new names have appeared in the Top 10 of the point standings.  With seven weeks to go in the 2014 season, the Top 20 drivers in the point standings have now reached the 14 week mark and will be trying to net points.

A driver’s best 14 weekly races make up their season point totals.  Once a driver reaches the 14 week mark of their season, they begin to net points by trying the replace the lowest weekly point tally among their best 14 with a higher one.

Entering Week 21 of the 27-week NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, six drivers still have a mathematical chance to win the $20,000 National Championship.  For five of those drivers, it will be a difficult task, as they will have to win at least one 50-point race in each of the seven weeks remaining in the season.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point leader Chris Holley of Dayton, TX has created this difficult task for his five challengers, as he has 12 wins this season, and is working towards a “Perfect Season” of accumulating 700 points that is represented by 14 50-point wins.  Holley has 698 points in 14 races this season driving the Land Bridge Transportation Special.

Holley’s competition for the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship are Ryan Ling of Seymour, TN, the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS, Heath Minor of Ralph, AL, Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, and Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS.

The best way for Holley’s challengers to stay in the battle for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship is to travel to Holley’s home track, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, and beat him on his home turf where he has only been defeated twice this season.  Holley took Week 20 off, but he is ready to go for Week 21 action and meet all challengers head on.

Whether or not the five drivers still in title contention are up and able to that task remains to be seen.  Only one of them has accomplish the task, and that’s Daspit, who made the six hour tow from Mississippi to Texas and beat Holley at Battleground Speedway on May 24.  The only other driver to beat Holley this season at Battleground Speedway is Doug Begnaud of Cypress, TX.

Also to be decided in the next seven weeks is who will finish in the Top 10 points fund paying positions of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings and earn a seat at the series’ Annual Awards Banquet table at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA in January.

That, in itself, is going to be an exciting and hard fought battle right down to the last lap of the last race, in the last week of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season.  Going into Week 21 action, just 19 points separate second through tenth in the points chase, and 16 points separate tenth through 14th in the standings.

Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 680 points after four wins, 16 top 5 finishes, and 18 top ten finishes in 19 races.  Bridgmon finished third on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to net two points driving the Robinson Electric Supply Special.  Bridgmon will try to net on a 47 in his next race.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 action and dropped to third in the standings with a best 14 week total of 678 points.  In 19 races, Gauldin has four wins, 14 top five finishes, and 18 top ten finishes driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT.  Gauldin will be trying to net on a 46 in his next race.

King and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS are tied for the fourth spot in the standings with each driver having a best 14 week total of 676 points.  King holds the tie-breaker advantage with six wins to four wins for Lee.  King made the biggest jump in the point standings from 13th to fourth thanks to double feature on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN.

King drove the Brian King Roofing Stinger to his sixth win of the season in the Week 14 Make-Up Race first feature to earn 50 points, and then netted six more points with a second-place finish in the second Week 20 feature race.  King has six wins, 13 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 15 races.  King will now be trying to net on a 43 in his next race.

Lee has four wins, 19 top five finishes and 23 top ten finishes in 26 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.  Lee will be trying to net on a 46 in his next series’ race.  Lee was able to net six points in Week 20 competition with a second-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.

Daspit is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 673 points after six wins, 14 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 18 races driving the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star.  Daspit finished fourth on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.  In his next race, Daspit will be trying to net on a 44.

Rusty Ballenger of Sevierville, TN was another driver that used double features on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway to advance up into the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.  Ballenger drove the Rehel Diesel/E. TN Metals Special to a third-place finish in the Week 14 Make-Up Race and a fourth-place finish in the Week 20 race.

That vaulted Ballenger from 15th to seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 666 points after three wins, 12 top five finishes, and 14 top ten finishes in 15 races.  Ballenger will be trying to net on a 41 in his next race.

Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is another new face in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings.  Smith used his last week to earn full points to turn in a fourth-place finish on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS driving the BSB Manufacturing Special.

That moved Smith from 14th to eighth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with a 14 week total of 665 points after four wins, 12 top five finishes and 14 top ten finishes in 14 races.  Smith will be trying to net on a 39 in his next race.

Minor reached the 14 week mark of his 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS by collecting 41 points after finishing outside the Top 10 in the Mike Minor’s Auto Repair Warrior.  That dropped Minor to ninth in the standings with 662 points after six wins, 11 top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 15 races.  Minor will now try to net on that 41 in his next race.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL did not compete in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 competition and dropped to tenth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 661 points after four wins, ten top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 21 races driving the Skinner’s Bod Shop Special.  The 12-year-old sensation will be trying to net on a 42 in his next race.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 20 action, Roger Witt of Batesville, AR drove The Chrome Shop Trak-Star to his third win of the season on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR.  Mike Boland of Cuba, AL drove Kash Wilson’s Cacee Brown Racing Trak-Star to victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway.

Daniel Smith of Wichita, KS picked up his second NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win of the season on Friday night at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS driving the DS Designs Special.  Jake Teague of Oliver Springs, TN won the second of two feature races on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway driving the Wade’s Body Shop Special.

Adam Ray of Smithland, KY drove the Three Rivers Machine Special to his first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model wins of the season on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN.  Shay Knight of Columbus, MS was also a first time winner this season on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway driving the Olive Branch Can-Am Special.

Mason Oberkramer of Brosley, MO picked up his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Saturday night at Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO driving the Corwell Trucking GRT.  Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS took his first win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park driving the McDuffie Racing Trak-Star.

There were three Saturday night rainouts of Week 20 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series scheduled events at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Victories by Witt, Boland, and McDuffie brought the leading win total of three-time and defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL up to 28.

Oberkramer’s win for four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Champ GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR gave them the second spot in the standings with 20 wins this season.  Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV is third with 19 wins in the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season.
