NeSMITH CHEVROLET OLD MAN’S GARAGE WEEKLY RACING SERIES JULY 15 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

                CARTERSVILLE, GA – Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS extended his NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point lead by driving “Noah’s Ark,” the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star, to his series-leading ninth win of the season on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA.

                Daspit now holds a 33-point lead over Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings.  Scarbrough turned in a 47-point fourth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Villa South Trak-Star to net 22 points on his best 14-week point total.

                The top three drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings have now reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons.  Daspit has 673 points after nine wins and 18 top five finishes in 20 races over 14 weeks.  Scarbrough’s best 14-week point total is 640 after two wins, eight top five finishes, and 15 top ten finishes in 22 races.

                Derrick Mackmer of Purvis, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 612 points after an eighth-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in the Mackmer Home Buyers Special.  Mackmer has five top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 21 races over 14 weeks.

                The top three drivers in the point standings may seem to have a comfortable point margin over the rest of the drivers in the Top 10, but six of the drivers in the fourth through tenth spots can earn full points for another two weeks.

                Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is fourth in the standings with 576 points after three wins, 18 top five finishes and 19 top ten finishes in 20 races over 12 weeks.  Lee took Week 16 off of NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition to compete with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division.

Robby Moore of Brosley, MO finished third on Saturday night at West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO to move up to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 575 points.  Moore has one win, 13 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes in 16 races over 12 weeks driving the Custom Race Cars Trak-Star.

Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 562 points after driving the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket to a second-place finish on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN.  Cooper has nine top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 13 races over 12 weeks.

Roger Witt of Batesville, AR picked up his second NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model win of the season on Saturday night at West Plains Motor Speedway driving The Chrome Shop GRT.  Witt moves up to the seventh spot in the standings with 556 points after two wins, eight top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 17 races over 12 weeks.

Joey Smith of Pomona, MO is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 554 points after four wins, nine top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 17 races over 12 weeks.  Smith finished sixth on Saturday night at West Plains Motor Speedway driving the Plastic Tank Shop.com Special.

Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 545 points after six top five finishes and eight top ten finishes in 16 races over 13 weeks driving the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star.  Jordan also took off Week 16 to compete with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division at his home track, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.

Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with 542 points after two wins, eight top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 13 races over 12 weeks.  Glisson drove the SGR Equipment Rocket to a fourth-place finish on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Week 16 action, Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL made his first series start of the season on Friday night a successful one by driving the Stephens Racing Special to a $1,000 victory at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS, who led the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings earlier this season, debuted with a new team on Saturday night and took the $1,000 top prize in the Villa South Assisted Living Summer Shootout Race at Jackson Motor Speedway.

Randy Walters of Laurel, MS picked up his first NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park driving the Ike Jimerson Enterprises Special. 

Ricky Waggoner of Martin, TN drove the Taylormade Performance Special to his sixth win of the season on Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports, and Doug Begnaud of Houston, TX took his second win of the season on Saturday night at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX driving the Begnaud Racing Special.

Two-time Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL continues to lead the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge after Daspit gave them their 29th win of the season.  Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV is second in the standings with 17 wins.

Defending and four-time NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR is in the third spot with 16 wins after a Week 16 victory from Witt.  Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN is fourth with six wins. 

Also participating in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first wins are Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN, TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, and CVR Race Cars of Lenoir City, TN.
