NeSMITH/AR BODIES STREET STOCK DIVISION WEEK 16 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Calvin Cook of Pace, FL served notice in NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies Week 16 competition that he is in the mix for the 2014 National Championship.  Cook scored a $1,000 win on Friday night and a second-place finish on Saturday night to be crowned the Mississippi Street Stock Series Mid-Season Champion.

Cook drove the Reed’s Metals Chevrolet powered by a $3,295 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to victory over a 31-car field on Friday night in the Dixie 50 at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.  A $500 Bonus for being the leader at the halfway point in the race brought Cook’s payday up to $1,500.

Cook then followed that up with a second-place effort on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA.  Both NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division events were co-sanctioned by the MSSS.

Cook, who is the defending MSSS Champion and finished third in the 2013 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division points, used his second win of the season to move into the Top 20 of the standings with 384 points, landing in a tie for the 17th spot.  Cook has two wins, ten top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 12 races over eight weeks.  He still has six more weeks to earn full points.

Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS drove the Ergon, Inc. Chevrolet, a race car built by Cook at the High Roller Race Cars shop in Woodstock, AL, to his fifth NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division win of the season on Saturday night at St. Tammany Raceway to pick up the $1,000 top prize.

Whittington is currently tenth in the standings with 522 points after five wins, eight top five finishes, and 11 top ten finishes in 13 races, and can earn full points for another three weeks.  That makes Whittington another title contender for the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Championship.

Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is the new NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division point leader after driving the Performance Bodies “Throwback” 1957 Chevrolet to a second-place finish at Hattiesburg Speedway on Friday night.  Idom used his 14th and final week to earn full points to collect 49 points and bring his season total to 665.

In 19 races, Idom has eight wins, 16 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes.  Idom holds a 27-point lead over David Windham of Florala, AL, who has a best 14 week total of 638 points after one win, 13 top five finishes and 16 top ten finishes in 18 races.  Windham finished second on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the Florala Pharmacy Chevrolet.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS reached the 14 mark of his season by adding 49 points to his season total with a second-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

That moved Leftwich up to the third spot in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 629 points.  Leftwich has eight top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 16 races driving the STR Race Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.

Mike Lane of Pace, FL drove the Lane’s Vinyl Siding Chevrolet to his series-leading tenth win of the season on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.  Lane is fourth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with a best 14 week total of 627 points after ten wins, 15 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes.

The ten wins for Lane are represented by six 40-point wins against car counts of seven or less, and four 50-point wins against car counts of eight or more.  Having reached the 14 week mark of the 2014 season, Lane will now be trying to net on those 40-point wins.

Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL is fifth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 577 points and one more week to earn fill points.  Shaw has one win, ten top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 13 races driving the S&S Electronics Chevrolet.  Shaw finished sixth on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway.

Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL is sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 554 points after one win, 12 top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 15 races.  Haynes finished fourth on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Jeff Owens & Associates Chevrolet.

Larry Faulk of Pace, FL did not earn any points in NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 16 competition and dropped to seventh in the standings with a best 14 week total of 531 points.  Faulk has one win, nine top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 17 races driving the L&H Construction Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.

Garrett McDonald of Pace, FL is eighth in the standings with 530 points and two more weeks to earn full points.  McDonald has two NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division wins, six top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 14 races.  McDonald finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway, but still earned 41 points in the Copperhead Chassis Chevrolet.

Branden Harris of Molino, FL is ninth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 525 points and two more weeks to earn full points.  Harris has one win, eight top five finishes and ten top ten finishes.  Harris also finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway, but still earned 41 points in the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet.
