NeSMITH PERFORMANCE PARTS STREET STOCK DIVISION ROUND UP FOR JUNE 24

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 13 of the 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division season was a big one for the $3,195 Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine, as the economical power plant was under the hood of three winning race cars and several top finishing cars over the weekend.

Mark Barnett of Aberdeen, MS drove the MC Construction Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine to a $1,000 win on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL in a photo finish with Calvin Cook of Pace, FL and Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL.  The second and third-place finishing cars of Cook and Spears respectively were also 602 powered.

NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point leader Trey Bright of Coker, AL was battling Cook for the lead late in the race, but lost the engine in his AKA Cores Chevrolet and finished 13th.  Bright was able to stay on top of the points list, but Spears, with his third-place finish, moved up to the second spot, and closed to within 12 points of Bright.

Bright has 567 points with five wins, ten top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 14 races over 12 weeks.  Spears has 555 points with four wins, ten top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 13 races over 12 weeks in the Bass Sports Online Chevrolet.

Dave Nations of Raymond, MS did not compete in Week 13 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division action and dropped to the third spot with 520 points after one win, eight top five finishes, and 11 top ten finishes over 11 weeks.  Even though Nations did not compete with the Division in Week 13, his race car was busy.

Nations traveled to Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS on Saturday night for a non-sanctioned $2,000-to-win race and put Brooks Strength in the seat of the Street Stock Set Up Specialist powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine.  Strength won the race with the only 602 in the field.

Jeffrey Walker of Meridian, MS picked up the third win of the weekend for the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine, taking the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division race at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Shones Painting Chevrolet.

Wayne Medders of Morton, MS finished second on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park and is fourth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 489 points after four top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 14 races over 11 weeks driving the Medders Construction Chevrolet.

Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS finished fifth on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in the American Portable Buildings Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine.  Leftwich is fifth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 469 points after five top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 11 races over 11 weeks.

Chad Hiers of Ocean Springs, MS is sixth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 452 points after seven top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in 12 races over 11 weeks.  Hiers had a third-place finish on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Hiers Construction Chevrolet.

Roger Flynn of Denham Springs, LA took his series-leading seventh NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in the Flynn Racing Chevrolet.  Flynn is eighth in the standing with 383 points after seven wins, eight top five finishes and nine top ten finishes in nine races over eight weeks.

Charles Coan of Danville, AL is ninth in the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division standings with 377 points after six top ten finishes in nine races over nine weeks driving the Coan Racing Chevrolet.  Keith Coan of Town Creek, AL finished fifth on Saturday night at Moulton Speedway in the Bishop Body Shop Chevrolet and moved to the tenth spot in the standings with 374 points after one win and seven top five finishes in nine races over nine weeks.

In other NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Week 13 action, J.R. Brown of Eastaboga, AL won the first ever Division race at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night driving the Brown Racing Special.

NeSmith Racing officials have added a new column to the point standings called “Weeks” to show how many weeks the top drivers in the standings have competed in.  Drivers will earn full points until they reach 14 weeks of competition.  At that point in their season, they will begin to net points by trying to replace the lowest weekly total among their best 14 week season totals with a higher weekly point score.

A total of 196 different drivers have earned points in the first 13 weeks of NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competition.  The complete NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings can be found on the Points page of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series web site at www.nesmithracing.com.
