NeSMITH CHEVROLET DIRT LATE MODEL SERIES WEEK 13 PREVIEW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The battle for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship continues to develop, as the halfway point of the 2014 season approaches with Week 13 action this weekend.  There will be 13 races in five different states on the Week 13 schedule with three races on Friday night, and ten events on Saturday night.

The Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 13 competition will be highlighted by a Week 10 Make Up Race at Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL.  Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS and Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, TN will also be in action with Week 13 events on Friday night.

A pair of $1,000-to-win races and an event co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series will highlight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 13 Saturday night competition.  A $1,000-to-win top prize will be offered up on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, and East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL will also pay $1,000-to-win on Saturday night.

Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL will present an $800-to-win NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model show that will be co-sanctioned by the South Eastern Crate Series.  Arkadelphia Speedway will return to action on Saturday night with its Week 13 show.

Other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 13 Saturday night races are scheduled for Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, St Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

Several NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series title contenders are lurking outside the top ten of the point standings, as the magic Week 14 approaches, as a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals over the 27-week season count towards their season total.

A driver’s ranking in the top ten of the point standings, doesn’t necessarily reflect their performance status, it just means they have raced a lot in the first 14 weeks of the season.  The performance gauge used to really get a handle on where a driver stands as a title contender at this point of the season is through their Weekly Point Average, or WPA.

A good example of this can be found with the top two drivers in the point standings.  Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL has earned the most points after the first 12 weeks of the season, and Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS is second in the points chase.  Gauldin has earned 570 points in 12 weeks of racing, and holds a 47-point lead over Bridgmon.

Sounds like a pretty healthy point lead for Gauldin until you see that Bridgmon has earned his 523 points in 11 weeks of racing, one week less than Gauldin.  Gauldin has two more weeks to earn full points, while Bridgmon can earn full points for three more weeks.

Once drivers hit the 14 week mark of their respective seasons, they begin netting points by trying to replace the lowest weekly point total of their best 14 with a higher one.  The point leader Gauldin ranks seventh on the WPA list among the Top 20 drivers in the point standings at 47.5 out of a possible 50, while second-place Bridgmon ranks sixth with a WPA of 47.54.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS and Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS are tied for the third spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 499 points apiece.  Lee earned his 499 points in 11 weeks of racing and he has the ninth highest WPA at 45.36.  Sanchagrin earned his 499 points over 12 weeks of racing.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL continues to impress, as the 12-year-old sensation is on a two-race winning streak and is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 493 points earned over 11 weeks of racing.  Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is sixth in the standings with 453 points earned over 10 weeks, and he has the tenth highest WPA at 45.3.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS is seventh in the standings with 437 points earned over ten weeks of competition.  The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is eighth with 433 earned over nine weeks of racing, and he has the fourth highest WPA at 48.11.

Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is ninth in the standings with 422 points over ten weeks of racing, and Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 415 points earned over ten weeks of competition.

Four of the top five drivers on the WPA list are in the second ten of the point standings, and three of those drivers are making their first appearances in the Top 20 of the points chase.  This is a trend that will be prevalent over the next few weeks, as several drivers get closer to the 14 week mark of their respective seasons.

Chris Holley is currently ranked 12th in the standings with 399 points that represent seven wins and one second-place finish over eight weeks of racing.  Holley has the highest WPA among the top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings at 49.87.

Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS climbed into the Top 20 for the first time last week and is 15th in the standings with 388 points over eight weeks of racing.  Palasini has the second highest WPA at 48.5.  Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN is a Top 20 first-timer, sitting in the 17th spot in the standing with 385 points earned over eight weeks and the third highest WPA at 48.12.

Heath Minor of Ralph, AL made his first appearance in the Top 20 this week with 384 points earned over eight weeks.  Minor is 18th in the point standings and has the fifth highest WPA at 48.  Ryan King of Seymour, TN, who finished third in the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings, is a title contender again this season.  King is 20th in the standings with 379 points earned over eight weeks and has the eighth highest WPA at 47.37.

One interesting note about the top five drivers on the WPA list among the Top 20 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings is that they are spread out geographically.  Holley is from Texas, Palasini is from Western Mississippi, Beeler is from East Tennessee, Daspit is from Southern Mississippi, and Minor is from Alabama.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund.  Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
