NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS ADDS TALLADEGA SHORT TRACK TO JULY 4TH WEEK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has added a race to its July 4th Week with the addition of a $2,000-to-win 40-lap event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Wednesday night, July 3.  The Talladega Short Track race will now be the first of three Salute To America Nationals races.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will also compete at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL on Thursday night, July 4 with a $2,500-to-win 50-lap race, and at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL with a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race on Friday night, July 5 as a part of the Salute To America Nationals.

“We’re excited to have the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series back again at Talladega Short Track for a Touring event, and proud join East Alabama Motor Speedway and Penton Raceway as a part of the Salute To America Nationals,” Talladega Short Track Promoter Lynn Phillips said.  “It’s been awhile since we’ve had a NeSmith Touring Race at Talladega Short Track, but we’ve been a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series since it began.  Our weekly drivers and fans both have been after us to bring the Touring Series back, and this three-race week is a great opportunity for everyone.”

Talladega Short Track is the home track to drivers that won four of the first six NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region Championships.  Jason Wilson of Margaret, AL took the championship on 2006, Logan Yates of Delta, AL won the prize in 2007, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL grabbed the title in 2008, and after a two-year absence, Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega returned the WRS East Region Championship Trophy to TST in 2011.

Talladega Short Track has also been good to potential NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champions.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN took two Touring Division victories at Talladega Short Track in 2006 on the way to his first title.  The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Chip Brindle won two Touring Division races at TST in 2007 on his way the Rookie of the Year honors that season.

The three Alabama tracks that make up the Salute To America Nationals are less than 150 miles apart, which will make for short trips between races.  In the event of inclement weather at one of the three races, Saturday July 6 will be the rain date.  The three races will Rounds 11, 12, and 13 of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season, and a big car count is expected.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series has had great car counts and steady competitor participation this season.  Through the first eight races of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season, there has been an average of 55 cars at each event.  There are also 21 drivers that have competed at each of the first eight races.
