NeSMITH CHEVROLET SET FOR DOUBLE RACING WEEKEND HONORING J.T. KERR

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Touring Division is set for a Double Racing Weekend with a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race on Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA and the one of the fastest growing premier dirt late model races in East Tennessee, the $4,000-to-win 2nd Annual J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN.

The two races this weekend will be Rounds 9 and 10 of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season, and through the first eight races of the season, several drivers have established themselves as contenders for the $20,000 Championship.

Round 10 of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season this Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway will honor Legendary East Tennessee Hall of Fame race car driver and racing businessman the late J.T. Kerr.

“Just about every racer in East Tennessee over the past 40 years has done business with and has been helped by J.T. Kerr, and we’re proud to have this race at 411 Motor Speedway to honor his memory and legacy,” 411 Motor Speedway Owner and Promoter Mitch McCarter said.  “J.T.’s Grandson Tommy carries on his Papaw’s winning ways on the race track, and his Granddaughter Lacretia and her husband Travis Holbert are carrying on his business legacy by operating J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment.  They also are good people to know and to do business with.”

Kerr won the 1993 411 Motor Speedway NASCAR Championship and was a Regional NASCAR Weekly Racing Series runner-up at the age of 63.  He has also won numerous championships and races at several tracks throughout the Southeast, and was a pioneer in the volume buying racing equipment and aftermarket racing parts business.

Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, AL has found a new racing home with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series, and “Right Foot Ronny” leads the point standings with four wins in the first eight events.  Hollingsworth has accumulated 576 points with four wins, five top five finishes, seven top ten finishes, and three Fast Time Awards in the first eight races.

Hollingsworth has several drivers right on his heels in the point standings that include both familiar, and fresh new faces to the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series for the 2013 season.

National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 554 points and one win this season.  The “Chattanooga Flash” will be racing in front of his throng of East Tennessee fans this weekend.

Johnson is the winningest driver in the eight-year history of the series with 15 career victories.  In the first eight NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring Division races, R.J. has one win, five top five finishes and seven top ten finishes.  Last year at Boyd’s Speedway, Johnson finished tenth, and he took second in last year’s J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 at 411 Motor Speedway.

Sunshine State driver Kyle Bronson of  Brandon, FL has ventured outside his home state to race for the first time in his career, and after a victory at his home track, Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL back in January, has settled into the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 550 points.

Bronson has shown an impressive knack of learning new tracks that he has never seen before, turning in two third-place finishes and an 11th-place finishes in his last three races in Mississippi.  For the first eight races of the season, Bronson has one win, five top five finishes and six top ten finishes.  Bronson also leads the Rookie of the Year point standings.

Justin McRee of Northport, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 498 points.  “J-Mac” has posted four top five finishes, five top ten finishes, and one Fast Time Award in the first eight races.  Tait Davenport of Benton, KY is fifth in the standings with 474 points, and Shan Smith of Dade City, FL is sixth with 466 points.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champion and last year’s championship runner-up David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN is seventh in the standings with 464 points.  Gentry finished third last year at Boyd’s Speedway, and took the eighth spot last year in the J.T. Memorial 40 at 411 Motor Speedway.  Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is eighth in the standings with 436 points.

Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN is ninth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 410 points and is second in the Rookie of the Year point standings.  McCarter has one top ten finish in eight starts, but is looking for a breakout weekend, as he races at his home track, both literally and figuratively.

The McCarter Brothers Racing Team shop is located in the Garage Area of 411 Motor Speedway, and his father Mitch McCarter is the track owner and promoter.  McCarter finished 14th last year at Boyd’s Speedway, and he followed that up with a fourth-place finish in last year’s J.T. Memorial 40 at 411 Motor Speedway.

Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS is tenth in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS standings with 402 points.  Another East Tennessee favorite, Jake Teague of Oliver Springs, TN is 11th in the standings with 382 points.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champion Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA will be traveling to Boyd’s Speedway and 411 Motor Speedway this weekend to keep his “Ironman” streak alive.  Turner is the only driver that has competed in every series event held since its inception in 2005.  Turner will be looking to compete in his 155th and 156th consecutive races.

Other drivers that have competed in all eight 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS events held thus far and are expected this weekend are Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS, Josh Atkins of Talladega, AL, Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, Cody Martin of Christiana, TN, Cliff Williams of Star, MS, and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

Along with Bronson and McCarter, Barrett, Adkins and Martin are also competing for the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Rookie of the Year honors along with Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL.  Other drivers expected for the double-racing weekend are two former series Rookies of the Year Larry Harrod of Plains, GA and Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL.  Another top contender planning on making the trip is Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC.

The traveling drivers will find plenty of tough competition from the local favorites, who will be trying to keep the big money on their home turf.  In 2012, they did just that!

Jeff Smith of Rocky Face, GA is the defending champion of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS race at Boyd’s Speedway.  Jason Welshan of Maryville, TN finished second in the race last year, while Brian Pritchard of Harrison, TN, Rex Ritchey of Ringgold, GA, and Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN had top ten finishes last year at Boyd’s Speedway.  Also look for Grayson York of Rocky Face, GA and David Tindell of Ringgold, GA.

Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN had a good night at both tracks last year.  Wilson finished fourth at Boyd’s Speedway and the next night at 411 Motor Speedway he won the J.T. Kerr Memorial 40.  Joining Wilson as the local favorites at 411 Motor Speedway will be the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series third-place driver Ryan King of Seymour, TN.

Other 411 Motor Speedway favorites expected the 2nd Annual J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 are Greg Martin of Oliver Springs, TN and John Cobb of Loudon, TN, who were both top ten finishers in last year’s race, plus Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN, Tom Smith of Knoxville, TN, Marty Calloway of Maynardville, TN, Trevor Sise of Knoxville, TN and Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN, who led 23 laps of last year’s race.
