RIDE FOR LIFE CAR TO BENEFIT CHASE WASHINGTON ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – For the past six years, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series “Ride For Life” two-seat dirt late model race car has generated thousands of dollars for charities, such as the American Cancer Society.  The series will have the Ride For Life car at its next three events on Memorial Day Weekend to benefit one of their own, Chase Washington.

Washington, the 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion, is recovering from a form of cancer called Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and he has already had successful major surgery to remove a foot and a half cancerous portion of his small intestine.  Washington will still have to undergo six precautionary chemotherapy treatments, one every three weeks for 18 weeks.

“We got good news when the post-surgery tests came back that they removed all of the cancer, but as a precaution, I’m going to have to have six chemotherapy treatments, one every three weeks for 18 weeks,” Washington said.  “I’ll be out of the race car for a while, but I hope to be back on the track before the end of the season.”

The racing community will come together at the next three NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring events to help raise money to help Washington offset his medical expenses through three Raffles and the Ride For Life rides.

Two drivers each night have donated their time and talent for an auction at each event to take the highest bidders at each auction for the six-lap Ride For Life at race speed to benefit Washington.

Rides with defending race winner and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN and Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA, who battled Washington for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship last year, will be auctioned off on Friday night, May 24 at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS.

Scott Dedwylder of Vossburg, MS, who has driven Washington’s Jerry Inmon Racing Special to two NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series wins this season, and former track champion Randy Boyd of Marion, MS, who has three wins this season, will be the drivers of rides that will be auctioned off at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS on Saturday night, May 25.

The drivers giving rides that will be auctioned off on Sunday night, May 26 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS are two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS and Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, who won two series races last season.

“The Ride For Life car has been used by the series to give back to the communities we race at and has generated thousands of dollars over the year to benefit charities such as the American Cancer Society,” NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn said.  “Now it’s time to give back to one of our own, our 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Champion Chase Washington in his time of need.”

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Ride For Life race car is an actual dirt late model modified with a passenger seat to the right of the driver.  The car is capable of turning competitive race speeds with a passenger onboard going into the turns sideways at over 100 miles per hour.

In addition to the Ride For Life, the Trosclair Family has organized three different Raffles that will take place at each Nesmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Davison $2,000-to-win 40-lap event.  Raffle tickets will be on sale at each event for $1 apiece, or six tickets for $5.

Some of the items that have been donated for the Raffles are custom wraps, racing team apparel, and racing memorabilia that includes race car doors, hoods, and quarter panels.  If anyone would like to donate items to be raffled off, they may contact Sharon Trosclair at 504-508-3508, or by E-mail at racinbd21@cox.net.

“This has been a life-changing experience for me, as I have gotten closer to God and I’ve felt the power of prayer,” Washington said.  “I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the prayers, visits, phone calls, text messages, and E-mails I received since this all began.  I just can’t express in words how grateful I am to everyone, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the race track.”
