SKINNER STILL LEADS SUNOCO YOUNG GUN CHALLENGE SERIES POINTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL still leads the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series point standings for NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger.  The Sunoco Young Guns have a big weekend coming up, as they will be able to earn points in two NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series races at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Even though the 13-year-old driver did not compete during last weekend’s action, Skinner still leads the standings with 142 points after one win, two top five finishes and three top ten finishes in 3 races driving the Skinner’s Body Shop CVR.  Skinner has a new challenger in the second spot of the Sunoco Gun Challenge Series point standings in 15-year-old Bryant Marsh of Corinth, MS.

Marsh drove the Modern Woodmen Trak-Star to a fifth-place finish last Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS to bring his season point total up to 136 points and take over the second spot in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series standings.  In four races, Marsh has two top five finishes and three top ten finishes.

Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, FL is third in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series standings with 135 points.  The 12-year-old driver competed in the first three NeSmith Late Model Touring races this season at his home track, Bubba Raceway Park, where he turned in one top five finish and three top ten finishes driving the Vahlco Wheels Rocket.

The fourth and fifth-place drivers in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series point standings, 13-year-old Michael Lake of Uniontown, PA and 17-year-old Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, VA respectively, also competed in the first three National Touring events in Florida.   Lake has 123 points after one top ten finish in the Bobby Lake Motorsports Special, and Robertson has 91 points driving the Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms Special.

A driver on the move through the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series point standings is 12-year-old Colton Horner of Katy, TX, who drove the Houston Specialty Products Company Special to a sixth-place finish last Saturday night at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA to move up to the sixth spot in the standings with 89 points.  In three races, Horner has one top five finish and three top ten finishes.

Josh Banes of Learned, MS is tied with Horner for the sixth spot in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series standings with 89 points after driving the Diversified Pest Management Special to one top five finish and two top ten finishes in two races.  The 17-year-old driver finished ninth last Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.

Cole Daffron of Pell City, AL is eighth in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series standings with 86 points after one top ten finish in two races driving the TSR Race Cars Warrior.  The 16-year-old driver did not compete in last weekend’s action.

Dylan Allen of Baytown, TX is ninth in the standings with 83 points.  The 14-year-old driver drove the Hi-Tech Valve Company Trak-Star to a ninth-place finish last Saturday night at 171 Speedway.  Connor Meade of Clay City, KY rounds out the Top 10 in the standings with 75 points after driving the Jay Construction Special in the first three National Touring events of the season.

There are three other driver competing in the 2015 Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series and they are 16-year-old Ryan Carter of Blackshear, GA, who is 11th with 69 points, 17-year-old Joshua Bishop of Statesboro, GA, who is 12th with 66 points, and 16-year-old Trey Wood of Newnan, GA, who is 13th with 50 points.

Teenagers competing in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series may earn points in NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events, and NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series events.  They will use their best 14 finishes to determine their season total.

The Sunoco Young Guns will be able to compete with the NeSmith Chevrolet Late Models in a 40-lap $2,000-to-win race on Friday night, and a 50-lap $2,500-to-win race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track.  This weekend’s races at Talladega Short Track will be big for the Young Guns, as they will have two opportunities to earn points.

Skinner will be one to watch this weekend at his home track, where he has one win this year in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action, and he had a top five finish last year in the NeSmith Late Model Touring race at “The Hornet’s Nest.”  Daffron, Carter and Wood have also made their intentions known they will compete at TST this weekend.

Sunoco Race Fuels, the Official Race Fuel of NeSmith Racing, will pay the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series Champion a $1,000 Bonus at the end of the season, and the $5,000 point fund will pay back through the Top 10 drivers in the point standings.
