NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 5 PREVIEW

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

                CARTERSVILLE, GA – There are ten races in five states on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 schedule of events, as tracks remain optimistic that Mother Nature will let them get one in this weekend.  A busy Friday night has four races on tap with six events scheduled for Saturday night.  Three tracks will present their season openers this weekend.

                Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will be in action this Friday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition along with Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.  Penton Raceway in Penton, AL and Salina Speedway in Salina, KS will open their 2015 seasons this Friday night.

                Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 action will be highlighted by a $1,000-to-win race at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA that will be co-sanctioned by the Southern Crate Late Model Association.  Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will be looking to have their 2015 season opener this Saturday night.

                Also in action on Saturday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 5 competition will be Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS.

                Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 190 points.  Arnold has a 46-point lead over Cliff Williams of Star, MS and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, who are tied for the second spot with 144 points apiece. 

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is fourth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 142 points, and the 13-year-old driver also leads the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series points for drivers 18 years of age and younger.  The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is fifth with 141 points.

Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL is sixth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 139 points and he also leads the NeSmith Panhandle Challenge Series point standings.  Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL is seventh with 132 points.  Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS, Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS and Dustin Boykin of Hattiesburg, MS are tied for the eighth spot with 131 points apiece.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series will compete against each other nationally using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season from March 23 through September 27.  The $20,000 National point fund will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back to the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competitors have the option of two different economical Chevrolet Performance Circle Track Engines to compete with.  The aluminum-head 400 horsepower 604 engine costs $5,795 and the steel-head 350 horsepower Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a 100-pound weight break costs $3,495.
