NeSMITH CHEVROLET OLD MAN’S GARAGE WEEKLY RACING SERIES SPOTLIGHT – PENTON RACEWAY

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Penton Raceway in Penton, AL will begin its seventh season as a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series when it presents its 2013 season opener on April 19. Drivers in the Penton Raceway NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS Late Model Division will compete for both a National and Track point fund.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division at Penton Raceway will compete against drivers at other sanctioned tracks across the country using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29.

The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Two former NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series East Region Champions were regular competitors at Penton Raceway with the 2009 Champion Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL and the 2010 Champion Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL.

Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA is the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion at Penton Raceway, and will be joined in 2013 competition by Taylor Mitcham of LaFayette, AL, Edge, Cord Dodgen of LaFayette, AL, and veteran Dana Eiland of Salem, AL.

In addition to presenting weekly Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series action, Penton Raceway will also host its annual NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division event over the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend with a 40-lap $2,000-to-win race on July 5.

Past NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division winners at Penton Raceway are Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA in 2007, William Thomas of Phenix City, AL in 2008, 2011 and 2012, Knowles in 2009, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA in 2010, and the defending NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champion Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA in 2012.

Penton Raceway will also have the honor of hosting the first-ever Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series event on August 2 with a 50-lap $3,000-to-win race. The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series is the newest series sanctioned by Crate Racin’ USA, and features dirt late models powered by the $7,000 all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engine.

Penton Raceway is a 1/3-mile clay oval promoted by 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Co-Promoters of the Year Bill and Debbie Edge. Through the years, Penton Raceway has worked with East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, a Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series track.
