NeSMITH CHEVROLET OLD MAN’S GARAGE WEEKLY RACING SERIES SPOTLIGHT – WEST PLAINS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

CARTERSVILLE, GA – West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO will begin its second season with the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series on April 13. Weekly Late Model racing returned to West Plains Motor Speedway for the first time in many years last season, and the Division grew to a field of over 20 cars by the end of the season.

West Plains Motor Speedway officials are enthusiastic that momentum will carry over to the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season for 2013 on Saturday nights, as they will work with a series Friday night track, Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, to give drivers in the area a better opportunity to compete for the National Championship.

Drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division at West Plains Motor Speedway will compete against drivers at other sanctioned tracks across the country using a points system that will count their best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 29. They will also compete for a track point fund.

The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series title came right down to the wire, and West Plains Motor Speedway played a key role in its outcome. Chase Washington of Houlka, MS traveled to the 3/8-mile clay oval for Week 26 competition, and was in a must win position to stay in the title hunt.

In his first visit to the track, Washington was able to post the win that night at West Plains Motor Speedway, and he went on to win the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship. Although he tied in points with Mickey Trosclair of Luling, LA, Washington won the tiebreaker with more 50-point wins.

Several West Plains Motor Speedway drivers are expected to be front runners for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Championship that also pays back to the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings. One of the top competitors at West Plains Motor Speedway will be defending track champion Roger Witt of Batesville, AR.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division will also be making its first-ever visit to West Plains Motor Speedway in 2013 with a $2,500-to-win 50-lap race on August 31. This is scheduled to be Round 19 of the 22-race 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring Series, and should play an important role in the battle for the $20,000 National Championship.
