NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR MARCH 31

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS, Henry Hanger of Winchester, TN, Chris Holley of Highlands, TX, and David Smith of Holt, FL picked up NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 1 wins to open the 2014 season.  The 27-week season will run through September 28 towards the $10,000 National Championship.

While Dudley finished first on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL in the Jimmy Thomas Memorial Race, his $1,000 victory in the Eiland Pools Rocket is not yet official.  His race car was protested and inspected today by NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Competition Director Tim Sims.

At the request of Dudley, the race car was impounded at the track since Saturday night and double-locked in the track Tech Building until Sims could take a look at it.  One lock belonged to the track, and the other lock belonged to Dudley.  Sims tore down the engine and found it to be legal.  The MSD Ignition Box has been sent to the MSD factory for further evaluation for signs of an added Traction Control device.  The results from MSD are expected by the end of the week.

So unofficially, Dudley shares the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point lead with Bridgmon, Hanger, and Holley with each driver having 50 points.  Smith is well down on the points list after taking a 40-point win against a field of less than eight cars.

Bridgmon topped a 27-car field on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS driving the Robinson Electric Supply Special, and Hanger drove the Hanger’s Hardwood Floor City Special to victory over a 22-car field on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.  Holley picked up his Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series win at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX.

Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, AL, Casey Haney of Meridian, MS, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL, and Eric Neal of Highlands, TX are among a four-way tie for the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 49 points apiece.

Thomas finished second at East Alabama Motor Speedway driving the Dublin Tire Company Special, and Haney took the second spot at Whynot Motorsports Park in the Robinson Electric Rocket.  Gauldin drove the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT to a second-place finish at Talladega Short Track, and Neal was second at Battleground Speedway.

Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Cliff Williams of Star, MS, Caleb Coan of Moulton, AL, and Buster Deen of Crosby, TX are in a four-way for the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 48 points apiece.

Eiland drove the Andy’s Auto Parts Special to a third-place finish at East Alabama Motor Speedway, and Williams was third at Whynot Motorsports Park in the Star Plumbing Trak-Star.  Coan finished third at Talladega Short Track in the Buttram Snacks Special, and Deen was third at Battleground Speedway in the Freedom Air Motorsports Special.

Smith drove the Jerry Mulcahy Painting Rocket to the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.  The Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Week 1 Late Model race at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA was rained out.
