NeSMITH RACING’S VAUGHN TO INDUCT HIS BOYHOOD HERO SELLS INTO NDLMHoF

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame announced today that NeSmith Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn will introduce his boyhood hero Leon “Slick” Sells at the Class of 2015 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Hall located on the grounds of  Florence Speedway in Walton, KY on August 8.

As a young boy attending the North Georgia dirt track races, Vaughn idolized the racing legend, and later as an adult, Vaughn became friends with Sells, who was a 2009 Inductee into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

“I am so honored and excited that the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame has given me the opportunity and privilege to introduce Leon “Slick” Sells at the 2015 Induction Ceremony,” Vaughn said.   “Slick has been my hero since I was a young boy and he was the one that really got me interested in racing along with influencing me into staying in it as a car owner and a series promoter.”

Also being inducted along with Sells into The Class of 2015 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame will be Skip Arp, Red Droste, Curt Hansen, Davey Johnson, Jim Butler, Al Frieden, and Wayne Kindness.  The 2015 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in conjunction with the 33rd Annual North-South 100 at Florence Speedway.

Sells began his 35 year career driving for car owner Ed Massey back in 1953.   He has shown his great talent on many tracks and has scored hundreds of victories at places like Lakewood Speedway in Atlanta, the Peach Bowl, West Atlanta Speedway, Senoia Raceway, Dixie Speedway, Rome Speedway, and Toccoa Speedway in his home state and across the Carolinas.

Driving his always familiar #77 race cars Sells was a regular with the tough Tri-Racing circuit in the Peach State and was also an early member of the legendary NDRA traveling dirt late model series in the 1980s.   He retired from competition back in 1988.

In addition to his lifelong friendship with Sells, Vaughn also has deep connections with other National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductees, and he actively promotes the Hall in his racing series.  National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductees Jeff Purvis, Ronnie Johnson and Mike Head have all driven for Vaughn during his car owner days.

Johnson is the defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion, and is the defending National Champion of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series.  Vaughn founded and is the CEO of both series, and Johnson is always recognized as a National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee whenever his name is mentioned.

“Bill Holder, Bob Markos, Gerald Newton, and everyone involved with the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame have done a great job in giving the pioneers of Dirt Late Model racing a place to be enshrined and remembered,” Vaughn said.  “This sport has a deep and colorful history that needs to be preserved for the generations to come.”

The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame is located on the grounds of Florence Speedway at 12234 U.S. Highway 42, Walton, KY  41094.  For more information about the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, visit their web site at www.ndlmhof.wordpress.com, and on Facebook at National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.
