NeSMITH CHEVROLET OLD MAN’S GARAGE WEEKLY RACING SERIES SPOTLIGHT – MAGNOLIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY – COLUMBUS, MS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS has a busy season planned for 2013 with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. The 4/10-mile black clay oval also known as “Black Ice,” will begin its sixth season with the NeSmith Chevrolet OMG Weekly Racing Series when the 2013 National Points season opens on March 25.

Before the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series National Points season begins, Magnolia Motor Speedway will have three “Pre-Season” events. Those races are scheduled for Friday night, March 8; Saturday night, March 9; and Sunday afternoon, March 17.

The first NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series National Points race is scheduled for April 6. Many of the top drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet OMG WRS points chase from 2012 were regular competitors at “The Mag” and they are expected to return and battle for the $10,000 Championship in 2013.

The 2012 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Chase Washington of Houlka, MS calls Magnolia Motor Speedway his home track, as does Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL, who finished fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS point standings last season and is the defending NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Late Model Champion at The Mag.

Other top competitors expected to return for 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series action at Magnolia Motor Speedway are Kyle Shaw of Millport, AL, Tony Gray of Coker, AL, Hunter Carroll of Columbus, MS, Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS, T.K. King of Columbus, MS, Chance Inman of Bruce, MS, Jamey Boland of Cuba, AL, and Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS.

Drivers at Magnolia Motor Speedway will compete with drivers at other NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series track across the country using a points system over a 27-week season that runs from March 25 through September 29. A driver’s season point total will be based on their best 14 weekly point totals. The 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Champion will earn $10,000 out of the point fund that will also pay back ten spots.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 100-pound weight break.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division will make two stops at Magnolia Motor Speedway in 2013. The first event will be a 40-lap $2,000-to-win race on Sunday night, May 26, and the second race will be a 40-lap $2,000-to-win event on Sunday night, September 1.

The new Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will make a stop at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday night, September 8. The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series features dirt late models powered by the $7,000 Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engine, and is sanctioned by Crate Racin’ USA, that also sanctions the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series.

Magnolia Motor Speedway will be one of four tracks that will feature the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division for 2013. The NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division will parallel the same format as the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series for the Late Model Division.

Street Stock drivers at Magnolia Motor Speedway, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and St. Tammany Raceway in Hickory, LA will compete for a National Championship using a points system that counts their best 14 weekly point totals over a 27-week season that runs from March 25 through September 29.
