NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series News Release: Contact – ROBY HELM – (865) 207-4157 January 18, 2014 NOAH DASPIT CELEBRATES NeSMITH CHEV/OMG WRS $10,000 PERFECT SEASON FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DAWSONVILLE, GA – Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS celebrated his perfect 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage perfect season Saturday night during the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Thunder Road Museum. Daspit picked up a check for $10,000 out of the $20,000 point fund paid out to the Top 10 drivers at the banquet. The driver known as “The Ice Man” because he spoke few words, and showed little emotion during the season, was in a talkative mood on Saturday night. “This was a great season for our entire team and we had a lot of fun,” Daspit said. “I got to race close to home thanks to Billy Riels letting me drive this car, and that’s all I had to do was show up and drive it. My teammate Shannon Lee set the car up, and my Dad helped out a lot.” Billy Riels Racing had a phenomenal 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series season, as Lee drove his Billy Riels Racing GRT to a third-place finish in the point standings. The Champion’s father Ed Daspit was named the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Crew Chief of the Year. Daspit drove his Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star to the first perfect season in the eight-year history of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series with 14 fifty-point wins to score a total of 700 points. In addition to his point fund money, Daspit also received a new Trak-Star chassis from Boland Performance of Cuba, AL, and the car was finished and on display at the banquet. “My Trak-Star Race Car was the best race car I’ve ever driven in my career, and it was the biggest asset we had in winning 14 races during the season and winning the championship,” Daspit said. “I can’t thank Mike and Jamey Boland enough for building a great race car and I looking forward to getting to the track and racing this new car.” There were five other drivers in the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series that would probably share Daspit’s praises for Trak-Star Race Cars, as six the Top 10 drivers drove a Trak-Star Race Car and help the race car builder win their third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufactures Challenge Championship. “I’ve won a lot of big trophies in my driving career,” seven-time Mississippi State Late Model Champion Mike Boland said. “These three NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Championship trophies mean more to me than any of the others. I can’t thank all of my customers enough because they’re the ones that made this possible.” Also on hand at the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive their trophies and point fund checks were second-place Mike Palasini of Leland, MS, third-place Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, fourth-place Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL, and seventh-place Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY. Dudley also won a new Rocket Chassis from the Shinnston, WV car builder. During the State of the Series Address earlier in the evening, NeSmith Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn announced a big growth for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the 2014 season. “The 2014 line-up of tracks for the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series has swelled to 21 tracks in nine states,” Vaughn said. “We have 14 of our 15 tracks from last season returning for the 2014 season, and we have added seven new tracks. We are still talking to several other tracks, so we expect that number to grow in the coming weeks.” The 27-week 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season begins on March 24 and runs through September 28. A driver’s season point total will be based on their best 14 weekly point totals. For the third straight season, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will receive $10,000.
