TOP 10 WEEKLY DRIVERS TO TAKE THE STAGE AT NeSMITH RACING AWARDS BANQUET

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

                CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Top 10 drivers in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings will take the stage Saturday to receive their spoils during the Annual NeSmith Racing Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Thunder Road Museum in Dawsonville, GA.

                Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS is the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Champion, and he will be honored not only as this year’s title holder, but also as the first driver in the eight year history of the series to post a perfect score of 700 points represented by 14 50-point wins during the 27-week season.

                Daspit will pick up a check for $10,000 out of the $20,000 point fund, and he will also receive a new Trak-Star Chassis from Boland Performance of Cuba, AL.  “Mr. Perfect” Daspit drove the Billy Riels Racing Trak-Star in 34 races with 15 wins, 28 top five finishes, and 31 top ten finishes.

                Daspit had ten wins in 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series competition at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, four wins at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and one victory at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL.  Daspit was also the 2013 St. Tammany Raceway NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion.

                Mike Palasini of Leland, MS finished second in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 694 points.  Palasini had nine wins, and 15 top five finishes in 27 races driving the MP Trucking Trak-Star. 

The third-generation driver had eight wins at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS and one win at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS.  Palasini was also the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion at Greenville Speedway.

                Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS gave Billy Riels Racing its second Top 3 driver in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings, finishing third with a best 14 week total of 691 points. 

“The General” drove the Billy Riels Racing GRT to eight wins, a series-leading 29 top five finishes, and a series-leading 32 top ten finishes in a series-leading 36 races.  Lee split his eight victories with four at St. Tammany Raceway and four at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park.

                Montana Dudley of Phenix City, AL took the fourth spot in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points.  “Big Sky” drove the Zaxby’s Rocket to ten wins, 15 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes in 17 races. 

Nine of Dudley’s ten wins came at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL where he also was the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion.  Dudley also picked up a win at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.  In addition to his share of the point fund, Dudley will also receive a new chassis from Rocket Chassis.

Cliff Williams of Star, MS drove the Star Plumbing Trak-Star to the fifth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 686 points.  With Dudley and Williams collecting the same amount of points, Dudley won the tie-breaker with his ten wins to five wins for Williams. 

Williams also had 18 top five finishes and 21 top ten finishes in 26 races.   Williams had three NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series  wins at Jackson Motor Speedway and two wins at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS led the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings early in the season driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT, dropped out of sight from competition in the middle of the season, and then came back for a strong finish in The Strength Center Trak-Star to finish sixth in the standings with a best 14 week total of 681 points.

“The Hattiesburg Hustler” turned in seven 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series wins, 16 top five finishes and 19 top ten finishes in 28 races.  Arnold had three wins at Jackson Motor Speedway, two wins at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park and two wins at St. Tammany Raceway.

Jeff Glisson of Boaz, KY drove the SGR Equipment Rocket to a seventh-place finish in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 673 points. 

Glisson had three wins, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 19 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series  races.  Glisson had two wins at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN and one win at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS was eighth in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 670 points driving the Villa South Trak Star in a series-leading 36 races. 

The “Florence Flash” had two wins, both coming at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park where he was also the NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion.  Scarbrough also had 16 top five finishes and 27 top ten finishes.

Robby Moore of Brosley, MO finished in the ninth spot of the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series standings with a best 14 week total of 669 points.  Moore had one win on his way to the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Late Model Championship at West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO.  Moore also had 16 top five finishes and 25 top ten finishes in 25 races driving the Custom Race Cars Trak-Star.

Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN rounds out the Top 10 in the 2013 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series point standings with a best 14 week total of 665 points driving the Ronnie Cooper Trucking Rocket.  Cooper had one win, 12 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 16 races.

Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL will pick up their third NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Award on Saturday night at the banquet.  Drivers in Trak-Star Race Cars recorded 53 NeSmith Chevrolet Old Man’s Garage Weekly Racing Series wins in 2013, and made up six of the Top 10 drivers in the final point standings.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 27-week season begins on March 24 and runs through September 28.  To date, 21 tracks have signed up for NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioning during the 2014 season.  There are 14 tracks returning from the 2013 season, and seven tracks will be new for this season.
